Abstract
Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is one of the most popular biomarkers which can be utilized for the diagnosis and control of diabetes in clinical practice. In this study, a sandwich paper-based electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor has been developed using the zirconium metal-organic framework/Fe3O4(trimethyl chitosan)/gold nanocluster (Zr-MOF/Fe3O4(TMC)/AuNCs) nanocomposite as tracing tag to label anti-HbA1c monoclonal antibody and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as immobilization platform of sensing element. The screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) were constructed and modified by sputtering a thick layer of gold on the paper substrate, followed by electrochemical reduction of aminophenylboronic acid (APBA)-functionalized GO to rGO/APBA, respectively. Different types of surface analysis methods were applied to characterize the Zr-MOF/Fe3O4(TMC)/AuNCs nanomaterials fabricated. Finally, antibody-labeled Zr-MOF/Fe3O4(TMC)/AuNCs nanocomposites were subjected to HbA1c in the sample and on the paper-based SPE. Quantitative measurement of HbA1c was performed using ECL and cyclic voltammetry (CV) over a potential range of - 0.2 to 1.7 V vs gold reference electrode with a sweep rate of 0.2 V.s-1 in the presence of triethylamine as a co-reactant after sandwiching the HbA1c target between antibody and APBA on the sensing area. This immunosensor demonstrated the desirable assay performance for HbA1c with a wide response range from 2 to 18% and a low detection limit (0.072%). This new strategy provides an effective method for high-performance bioanalysis and opens avenues for the development of high-sensitive and user-friendly device. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a two-dimensional conjugated polymer that has attracted the interest of researchers and industrial communities owing to its outstanding analytical merits such as low-cost synthesis, high stability, unique electronic properties, catalytic ability, high quantum yield, nontoxicity, metal-free, low bandgap energy, and electron-rich properties. Notably, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is the most stable allotrope of carbon nitrides. It has been explored in various analytical fields due to its excellent biocompatibility properties, including ease of surface functionalization and hydrogen-bonding. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) acts as a nanomediator and serves as an immobilization layer to detect various biomolecules. Numerous reports have been presented in the literature on applying graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) for the construction of electrochemical sensors and biosensors. Different electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry, electrochemiluminescence, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, square wave anodic stripping voltammetry, and amperometry techniques have been extensively used for the detection of biologic molecules and heavy metals, with high sensitivity and good selectivity. For this reason, the leading drive of this review is to stress the importance of employing graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) for the fabrication of electrochemical sensors and biosensors.

Gold nanostar-enhanced electrochemiluminescence immunosensor for highly sensitive detection of cancer stem cells using CD133 membrane biomarker. Bioelectrochemistry 2020; 137:107633. Abstract
Gold nanostars (AuNSs) demonstrate an intense electromagnetic field around tip of branches. In this research, we employed AuNSs-enhanced electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emission from graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (g-CN nanosheets) to detect CD133 peptide as a cancer stem cell membrane biomarker. In this biosensor, the g-CN nanosheets were decorated with AuNSs (AuNSs@g-CN nanosheets). AuNSs@g-CN nanosheets exhibited strong and stable cathodic ECL emission compared to that of pure g-CN nanosheets. The ECL intensity from the AuNSs@g-CN nanosheets was over 30% higher than that of spherical gold nanoparticles (spherical AuNPs) decorated g-CN nanosheets. The additional ECL enhancement of AuNSs was due to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect located around multiple branch tips of AuNSs. The RSD of ECL curves intensities, obtained from successive potential scans for 10 cycles, were less than 4%, indicating the superior stability of the AuNSs@g-CN nanosheets. Under optimum conditions, the ECL intensity of GCE/AuNSs@g-CN nanosheets/anti-CD133 decreased linearly with CD133 peptide concentration in the range of 0.05-100 ng mL-1. The LOD achieved was 0.257 ng mL-1 (S/N = 3). The applicability of the designed biosensor in real samples was examined through the determination of CD133 peptide in spiked serum samples, from which satisfactory results were obtained.
