Abstract
Food safety is of great concern, and food-borne bacterial infections and diseases are a major crisis for health. Therefore, it is necessary to develop rapid detection techniques for the prevention and recognition of food safety hazards caused by food-borne pathogens. In recent years, the fluorescence assay has become a widely utilized detection method due to its good signal amplification effect, high detection sensitivity, high stability, and short detection time. In this review, the different kinds of fluorescence materials were concentrated, including quantum dots (QDs), carbon dots (CDs), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs). The optical properties and applications of different kinds of fluorescent materials were analyzed and compared. Furthermore, according to the biosensing components, different fluorescence biosensors are reviewed, including label-free based fluorescence probes, aptamer-based biosensors, and antibody-based biosensors. Finally, we focused our attention on the discussion of fluorescent detection techniques combined with other techniques and their applications. The review presents future trends in fluorescence sensors, providing new sights for the detection of food-borne pathogens.

Abstract
High demands for food safety detection and analysis have been advocated with people's increasing living standards. Even though numerous analytical testing techniques have been proposed, their widespread adoption is still constrained by the high limit of detection, narrow detection ranges, and high implementation costs. Due to their advantages, such as reduced sample and reagent consumption, high sensitivity, automation, low cost, and portability, using microfluidic devices for food safety monitoring has generated significant interest. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the latest microfluidic detection platforms (published in recent 4 years) and their applications in food safety, aiming to provide references for developing efficient research strategies for food contaminant detection and facilitating the transition of these platforms from laboratory research to practical field use.

Abstract
The integration of Raspberry Pi miniature computer systems with microfluidics has revolutionised the development of low-cost and customizable analytical systems in life science laboratories. This review explores the applications of Raspberry Pi in microfluidics, with a focus on imaging, including microscopy and automated image capture. By leveraging the low cost, flexibility and accessibility of Raspberry Pi components, high-resolution imaging and analysis have been achieved in direct mammalian and bacterial cellular imaging and a plethora of image-based biochemical and molecular assays, from immunoassays, through microbial growth, to nucleic acid methods such as real-time-qPCR. The control of image capture permitted by Raspberry Pi hardware can also be combined with onboard image analysis. Open-source hardware offers an opportunity to develop complex laboratory instrumentation systems at a fraction of the cost of commercial equipment and, importantly, offers an opportunity for complete customisation to meet the users' needs. However, these benefits come with a trade-off: challenges remain for those wishing to incorporate open-source hardware equipment in their own work, including requirements for construction and operator skill, the need for good documentation and the availability of rapid prototyping such as 3D printing plus other components. These advances in open-source hardware have the potential to improve the efficiency, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness of microfluidic-based experiments and applications.

Abstract
Pathogenic bacteria can pose a great threat to food safety and human health. It is therefore imperative to develop a rapid, portable, and sensitive determination and discrimination method for pathogenic bacteria. Over the past few years, various nanomaterials (NMs) have been employed as desirable nanoprobes because they possess extraordinary properties that can be used for optical signal enabled detection and identification of bacteria. By means of modification, NMs can, depending on different mechanisms, sense targets directly or indirectly, which then provides an essential support for the detection and differentiation of pathogenic bacteria. In this review, recent application of NMs-based optical biosensors for food safety bacterial detection and discrimination is performed, mainly in but not limited to noble metal NMs, fluorescent NMs, and point-of-care testing (POCT). This review also focuses on future trends in bacterial detection and discrimination, and machine learning in performing intelligent rapid detection and multiple accurate identification of bacteria.

Abstract
Detrimental contamination of zearalenone (ZEN) in crops and foodstuffs has drawn intensive public attention since it poses an ongoing threat to global food security and human health. Highly sensitive and rapid response ZEN trace analysis suitable for complex matrices at different processing stages is an indispensable part of food production. Conventional detection methods for ZEN encounter many deficiencies and demerits such as sophisticated equipment and heavy labor intensity. Alternatively, the nanomaterial-based biosensors featured with high sensitivity, portability, and miniaturization are springing up and emerging as superb substitutes to monitor ZEN in recent years. Herein, we predominantly devoted to overview the progress in the fabrication strategies and applications of various nanomaterial-based biosensors, highlighting rationales on sensing mechanisms, response types, and practical analytical performance. Synchronously, the versatile nanomaterials integrating with diverse recognition elements for augmenting sensing capabilities are emphasized. Finally, critical challenges and perspectives to expedite ZEN detection are outlooked.
