Abstract
As robot-assisted laparoscopic techniques continue to advance, becoming increasingly complex and refined, there has been significant progress in the minimally invasive treatment of ureteral strictures. This abstract aims to provide an overview and description of various surgical techniques that utilize robots for repairing ureteral strictures. We have summarized the progression of these surgical methods and highlighted the latest advancements in the procedures. When compared to open surgery, robot-assisted reconstruction techniques demonstrate superior functional outcomes, fewer postoperative complications, and a faster recovery in the treatment of ureteral strictures. This abstract aims to provide an overview and description of various surgical techniques utilizing robots to repair ureteral strictures. Robotic ureteral stricture correction has emerged as a valuable therapeutic option, particularly when endoscopic procedures are not feasible. Compared to traditional open surgery, robotic methods exhibit superior therapeutic effectiveness, fewer postoperative complications, and accelerated recovery. Reconstructive procedures such as reimplantation, psoas hitch, Boari flap, ureter-to-ureter anastomosis, appendix graft, buccal mucosa graft (BMG), ileal transplantation, or kidney autotransplantation can be performed depending on the extent and location of the stricture. Robotic surgical techniques also offer advantages, such as an expanded field of vision and the incorporation of supplementary technologies such as FireflyTM, indocyanine green (ICG), and near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging. However, further long-term, multicenter investigations are necessary to validate the positive findings reported in existing case series. Compared with open surgery, robot-assisted reconstruction techniques yield superior functional outcomes, fewer postoperative complications, and accelerated recovery for the treatment of ureteral strictures.

Abstract
To present our experience with laparoscopic ureteroneocystostomy with bladder flap (LUCBF) for treating benign ureteral stenosis and evaluate its feasibility and efficacy. The clinical data of 27 patients with benign ureteral stenosis who underwent LUCBF were retrospectively analyzed. After identification and excision of the ureteral stenosis segment, the healthy ureteral stump was dissected and incised longitudinally. A U-shaped or spiral bladder flap was harvested from the anterolateral bladder wall for ureteroplasty. All patients underwent LUCBF successfully, including 14 patients were combined with psoas hitch technique, between 90 and 220 min (median, 155 min). The median length of ureteral defect was 6 cm (range, 5-17 cm). The median blood loss was 40 ml (20-150 ml). The median indwelling time of double-J stent was 8 weeks (range, 4-8 weeks). Five patients (10.6%) suffered postoperative complications during the follow-up period (range, 12-48 months), including fever, hematuria, urinary tract infection and recurrent stenosis. The success rate was 96.3% (26/27). Patients with long ureter defects had longer operative time and more blood loss than short ureter defects. LUCBF was a safe and feasible technique for benign ureteral stenosis. Long ureter defect was related to longer operative time and more blood loss.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility of laparoscopic ureteral reimplantation with a Boari flap for long-segment ureteric avulsion or ureteric strictures of the middle and lower ureters. By observing its curative effect and prognosis, we can provide a safer and reliable treatment option for patients with middle and lower ureteral injury. METHODS In this study, of the eight cases under study, five were diagnosed with long-segment ureteric strictures, one had long-segment ureteric avulsion, one was diagnosed with ureteral rupture caused by surgical injury of appendicitis, and the remaining one underwent ureterostomy after ureteral injury. The location of ureteral injury was in the middle lower segment. All eight patients underwent laparoscopic ureteral reimplantation with a Boari flap from January 2018 to October 2021. In this study, two patients were treated with a Boari bladder flap with psoas hitching. All procedures were performed by the same surgeon with over 20 years of experience in urological surgery. RESULTS The mean length of ureteric avulsion or ureteric strictures was 7.94 cm (range, 4-15 cm). Laparoscopic ureteral reimplantation with a Boari flap was performed successfully between 120 and 240 min. The mean duration of postoperative hospital stay was 6 days, and no major complications related to the procedure in the perioperative period occurred. Postoperative follow-up showed no obvious hydronephrosis on computed tomography urography or urinary ultrasound in all eight patients. Postoperative reexamination did not reveal any significant hydronephrosis, urinary tract infection, or ureteral reflux, and none of the postoperative renal functions were abnormal. CONCLUSIONS Laparoscopic ureteral reimplantation with a Boari flap is safe and feasible for experienced physicians. In our case, the length/width ratio of bladder flap is more than 4:1, with good blood supply and no obvious complications, it provides a longer alternative length.

Abstract
Background To summarize our experience with the Boari flap-psoas hitch and compare the indications, perioperative data and outcomes between open and laparoscopic procedures. Methods This study retrospectively reviewed 35 patients with complex distal ureteral stricture between January 2015 and April 2019. All patients were treated with Boari flap-psoas hitch by either an open or a laparoscopic procedure. Selection criteria were based on the etiology, comorbidities, medical history, and patient preference. Results All surgeries were performed successfully. The median operation time was 201 min (range, 120 to 300 min), and the median estimated blood loss was 50 mL (range, 20 to 400 mL). The median postoperative hospitalization was 9 days (range, 3 to 46 days). Nineteen patients were treated by the open procedure, and 16 were treated by the transperitoneal laparoscopic procedure. The surgical indication of open surgery was broader than that for laparoscopic surgery. For patients experiencing iatrogenic injury and ureterovesical reimplantation failure, no significant differences in sex, laterality, operative time, ASA score or postoperative hospitalization stay were observed between the two groups. The median estimated blood loss was lower in the laparoscopic group than in the open group (P=0.047). Patients in the open group had more surgical complications than patients in the laparoscopic group (P=0.049). The postoperative follow-up showed the radiological resolution of hydronephrosis in 33 patients. Conclusions With the appropriate surgical considerations, Boari flap-psoas hitch is a valid method to bridge distal ureteral defects. For select patients, laparoscopic surgery had advantages being a minimal invasive surgery with less estimated blood loss and fewer surgical complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM The aim of this review was to provide an update on the status of minimal invasive treatment of ureteral stricture either with a laparoscopic or robotic surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eligible studies, published until November 2019 were retrieved through Medline, Cochrane and Pubmed databases. Predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria were used as selection method for data synthesis and acquisition. The study was performed in accordance with the PRISMA statement. RESULTS A total of 19 retrospective studies met the inclusion criteria. All of them demonstrated the safety, feasibility and success of both laparoscopic and robotic ureteral reconstruction. Individual case series or cumulative comparison analysis of the available studies showed at least equivalent success rates and a trend favoring laparoscopic and robotic groups in terms of estimated blood loss and length of hospital stay to the detriment of longer operative times and possibly higher cost. CONCLUSION Current evidence suggests the effectiveness, safety and increasing incorporation of minimally invasive techniques for complex stricture repair and reconstruction.

Abstract
Background & Objective: Obstructive ureteral pathologies in adult patients are most commonly due to ureteral strictures and secondary to surgical interventions. In this study, we aimed to compare open and laparoscopic modified Lich-Gregoir ureteral reimplantation with regards to outcomes in benign ureteral pathologies in adult patients. Methods: Between December 2008 and December 2014, 32 open cases and 29 laparoscopic cases were performed as per the data retrieved from surgical databases. All laparoscopic procedures were performed in Bakirkoy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital(BEAH) and all open ureteral reimplantation procedures in Kartal Dr Lutfi Kirdar Training and Research Hospital(KEAH) and Okmeydani Training and Research Hospital(OEAH). Results: The mean operation time was significantly lower in the group of patients operated with open group (142.5 minutes versus 188.9 minutes; P< 0.0001). The mean duration of follow-up was longer in the laparoscopy group (31 versus 28 months; p< 0.0001). The mean amount of operation associated blood loss was significantly lower in patients operated laparoscopically (93.7 mL versus 214 mL; P< 0.0001). The mean VAS score obtained six hours after surgery was 6.6 ± 0.8 in open group, and 5.8 ± 0.7 in laparoscopic group (p=0.0004). The mean VAS scores measured at post-operative day 1 was 4.5 ± 0.7 in open group and 3.7 ± 0.9 in laparoscopy group. Time required to achieve the pre-operative capability of daily activities was significantly longer in open group (15 ± 1.4 days vs 11 ± 1.4 days; p< 0.0001). Conclusion: Despite open techniques provide shorter operation time and laparoscopic techniques require long learning curve, we think that laparoscopic techniques are superior to open ones since that they provide a better post-operative comfort and are better tolerated in terms of complications.

Abstract
The incidence of ureteral strictures has increased worldwide owing to the widespread use of laparoscopic and endourologic procedures. Midureteral strictures can be managed by either an endoscopic approach or surgical reconstruction, including open or minimally invasive (laparoscopic/robotic) techniques. Minimally invasive surgical ureteral reconstruction is gaining in popularity in the management of midureteral strictures. However, only a few studies have been published so far regarding the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic and robotic ureteral reconstruction procedures. Nevertheless, most of the studies have reported at least equivalent outcomes with the open approach. In general, strictures more than 2 cm, injury strictures, and strictures associated either with radiation or with reduced renal function of less than 25% may be managed more appropriately by minimally invasive surgical reconstruction, although the evidence to establish these recommendations is not yet adequate. Defects of 2 to 3 cm in length may be treated with laparoscopic or robot-assisted uretero-ureterostomy, whereas defects of 12 to 15 cm may be managed either via ureteral reimplantation with a Boari flap or via transuretero-ureterostomy in case of low bladder capacity. Cases with more extended defects can be reconstructed with the incorporation of the ileum in ureteral repair.
