Abstract
Linear and annular lupus panniculitis of the scalp is a rare form of lupus panniculitis recently reported in literature. It presents as linear or annular or arciform areas of nonscarring alopecia of the scalp with minimal surface changes. We report a 4-year-old Indian female child with arciform erythematous plaque over the forehead extending on the scalp with nonscarring alopecia with annular erythematous plaque over the cheek. Histology showed lobular lymphocytic panniculitis with abundant mucin deposition. Antinuclear antibody and systemic screen for lupus were negative. After treatment with oral corticosteroids, complete remission was achieved with good regrowth of scalp hair with no relapse during the follow-up period of 6 months. This is the youngest reported case of linear and annular lupus panniculitis of the scalp.

Abstract
Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is an antimalarial that is utilized to treat a range of dermatologic and autoimmune disorders. With its ability to alter immunologic mechanisms, it has been used to slow or halt the progression of hair loss in conditions secondary to autoimmune dysfunction. Lichen planopilaris (LPP), frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), and alopecia areata (AA) are hair disorders with underlying autoimmune components and no standardized treatment guidelines. We summarized the available literature on the use of HCQ to treat LPP, FFA, and AA. For all three conditions, HCQ showed variable efficacy from halted hair loss to no improvement. While patients did show success with HCQ treatment, there were no clear treatment patterns. Regimens ranged from HCQ monotherapy to combination treatments with other agents like steroids. Overall, HCQ should certainly be considered by clinicians as a treatment option for patient suffering from these hair disorders. While there is no standardized treatment, incorporation of HCQ should take into consideration individual patient characteristics, clinical judgment, and risks of side effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although non-scarring alopecia (NSA) is a frequent clinical finding in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), it has been poorly described in the literature. It is considered a nonspecific sign in the current classification of skin lesions of LE. The aim of this study was to give an updated overview of the spectrum of NSA in LE patients, with emphasis on the clinical significance thereof. METHOD We conducted a review of the English literature using the PubMed-Medline database using the keywords "Alopecia" + "Lupus erythematosus". Publications describing LE patients with NSA were included. RESULTS Data for 237 patients from 27 publications were analyzed. Ninety-one patients had diffuse NSA, 43 had patchy NSA, 83 had lupus hair, 3 had alopecia of dermal cutaneous LE, and 17 had alopecia of linear and annular lupus panniculitis of the scalp. Patients with diffuse/patchy NSA and lupus hair shared the following features: strong association with systemic activity of LE, subtle clinical/trichoscopic signs of inflammation, histological aspect consistent with lesions specific to cutaneous LE, high likelihood of response to SLE therapy, and absence of progression to scarring alopecia. Association with SLE was rare in patients with dermal cutaneous LE or linear and annular lupus panniculitis of the scalp, and skin-directed therapies were most often effective. One patient of each subtype progressed to scarring alopecia. DISCUSSION Diffuse/patchy NSA and lupus hair may represent a topographic variation of a single entity specific for LE. Prospective studies are warranted to further document the clinical significance of this manifestation.

Abstract
Linear and annular lupus panniculitis of the scalp (LALPS) is a unique subset of lupus panniculitis, which results in non-scarring alopecia along the Blaschko line of the scalp in an otherwise healthy young patient. Numerous cases have been reported around the world, but data on their trichoscopic findings and correlations with the underlying pathology is sparse. We hereby present a case of 23-year-old male with LALPS and further describe his trichoscopic findings as well as their correlations with histopathological features.

Abstract
Lupus erythematosus profundus (LEP) is a rare form of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus. We report on a case of a 56-year-old Caucasian woman who presented with a single, persistent, painful rash on the left hip and lateral aspect of the left upper thigh, which had been present for 2.5 years. The patient had a history of previous injury to this area before the rash started. Clinical findings showed an inflamed, hyperpigmented, and indurated plaque with a linear skin invagination and no associated systemic symptoms. A skin biopsy test result confirmed the diagnosis of LEP and the clinical and laboratory examinations ruled out systemic lupus erythematosus. After 2 months of treatment with methotrexate 20 mg weekly and 1 month of prednisolone 7.5 mg daily, the skin rash improved considerably. We also present a brief review of the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, histopathology, laboratory findings, differential diagnosis, and treatment of LEP.

Abstract
RATIONALE Lupus panniculitis (LP) is a unique variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Clinical manifestations are typically mild and include erythema, nodules, and small ulcers. In certain cases, diagnosing LP may be challenging. Skin overlying the typical subcutaneous inflammation may appear normal, and bacterial superinfections of the skin sometimes mask the underlying LP. It has been suggested that a computed tomography (CT) scan may help to identify obscure LP lesions. Here, we report a case of a 54-year-old woman with an unusually severe form of LP, in which the full disease extent was only revealed by a fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET)/CT scan. PATIENT CONCERNS/DIAGNOSES/INTERVENTIONS/OUTCOMES Our patient initially presented with a bacterial infection of the skin. After initial improvement with antibiotic treatment, new erythematous lesions and sterile subcutaneous pus collections developed. An FDG-PET/CT scan revealed extensive subcutaneous inflammation at sites that had appeared normal during physical examination and on CT scan. As the subcutaneous lesions showed a remarkably linear pattern on FDG-PET/CT scan, the patient was suspected of having LP. After confirmation of this diagnosis by a deep-skin biopsy, our patient was treated with systemic glucocorticoids. Eventually, our patient succumbed to complications of LP and its treatment. LESSONS Our case demonstrates that clinical manifestations of LP are not always mild and that timely diagnosis is needed. Furthermore, we show that obscure LP lesions are more readily identified on an FDG-PET/CT scan than CT scan.
