Abstract
Background The HALP score, comprising hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet levels, serves as an indicator of both nutritional and inflammatory status. However, its correlation with all-cause and cause-specific mortality among cancer survivors remains unclear. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between HALP scores and mortality outcomes in this population. Method We extracted cohort data spanning ten cycles (1999-2018) from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Mortality rates, determined using the National Death Index (NDI) as of December 31, 2019, were assessed. Weighted multivariate logistic regression analyzed the association between HALP scores and cancer prevalence. Kaplan-Meier analyses and weighted multivariate-adjusted Cox analyses investigated the link between HALP scores and all-cause and cause-specific mortality in cancer survivors. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was employed to assess nonlinear relationships. Furthermore, multi-parametric subgroup analyses were conducted to ensure the robustness of the results. Results Our study included 41,231 participants, of whom 3,786 were cancer survivors (prevalence: 9.5%). Over a median follow-up of 91 months (range: 51-136), we observed 1,339 deaths, including 397 from cancer, 368 from cardio-cerebrovascular disease, and 105 from respiratory disease. Elevated HALP scores showed a consistent association with reduced cancer incidence (P for trend <0.001). In multivariable-adjusted Cox regression analyses, HALP scores were significantly inversely associated with all-cause mortality, cancer mortality, cardio-cerebrovascular disease mortality, and respiratory disease mortality in cancer survivors (P for trend < 0.05). Nonlinear relationships between HALP scores and all-cause and cause-specific mortality in cancer survivors were evident through RCS regression modeling (P for nonlinearity < 0.01). Kaplan-Meier analyses demonstrated that higher HALP scores were indicative of a poorer prognosis. Conclusion Our findings indicate a notable inverse correlation between HALP scores and both all-cause and cause-specific mortality among cancer survivors.

Abstract
This study analyzed the overall quality of the diet using predefined indices, including the Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015), the Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010 (AHEI-2010), the alternate Mediterranean Diet (aMED) score, the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) score, and the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII®), to explore their association with the risk of bladder cancer in the Multiethnic Cohort Study. Data were taken from 186,979 African American, Japanese American, Latino, Native Hawaiian, and non-Hispanic White participants aged 45-75 years, with 1152 incident cases of invasive bladder cancer during a mean follow-up period of 19.2 ± 6.6 years. Cox models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) with comprehensive adjustment for smoking. Comparing the highest vs. lowest diet quality score quintile, HRs (95% CIs) in men was 1.08 (0.86-1.36) for HEI-2015, 1.05 (0.84-1.30) for AHEI-2010, 1.01 (0.80-1.27) for aMED, 1.13 (0.90-1.41) for DASH, and 0.96 (0.76-1.21) for DII®, whereas the corresponding HRs for women were 0.75 (0.53-1.07), 0.64 (0.45-0.92), 0.60 (0.40-0.88), 0.66 (0.46-0.95), and 0.63 (0.43-0.90) with all p values for trend <0.05. The inverse association found in women did not vary by smoking status or race and ethnicity. Our findings suggest that adopting high-quality diets may reduce the risk of invasive bladder cancer among women in a multiethnic population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Diet might be a modifiable factor in preventing cancer by modulating inflammation. This study aims to explore the association between the dietary inflammatory index (DII) score and the risk of bladder cancer (BC). METHODS A total of 112 BC patients and 292 control subjects were enrolled in a case-control trial. Additionally, we tracked a total of 109 BC patients and 319 controls, whose propensity scores were obtained from the Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database spanning from 1999 to 2020. The baseline index and dietary intake data were assessed using a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). DII scores were calculated based on the dietary intake of 20 nutrients obtained from participants and categorized into four groups. The association between the inflammatory potential of the diet and BC risk was investigated using multivariate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS High DII scores were associated with a pro-inflammatory diet and a higher risk of BC, with higher DII scores positively associated with a higher risk of BC (quartiles 4 vs. 1, ORs 4.89, 95% CIs 2.09-11.25 p < 0.001). Specifically, this might promote BC development by inducing oxidative stress and affecting DNA repair mechanisms. This result was consistent with the NHANES findings (quartiles 4 vs. 1, ORs 2.69, 95% CIs 1.25-5.77, p = 0.006) and further supported the association of pro-inflammatory diet and lifestyle factors with the risk of BC. CONCLUSIONS Diets with the highest pro-inflammatory potential were associated with an increased risk of BC. By adjusting lifestyle factors, individuals might effectively lower their DII, thereby reducing the risk of developing BC. The results are consistent with the NHANES cohort.

Abstract
The correlation between chronic inflammation and cancer was initially identified in the 19th century. Biomolecules like interleukins, chemokines, tumor necrosis factors, growth factors, and adhesion molecules, which regulate inflammation, are recognized contributors to neoplastic transformation through various mechanisms, including oncogenic mutations, resistance to apoptosis, and adaptive responses like angiogenesis. This review aims to establish connections between the intricate and complex mechanisms of chronic inflammation and cancer. We illuminate implicit signaling mechanisms that drive the association between chronic inflammation and the initiation/progression of cancer, exploring potential impacts on other diseases. Additionally, we discuss the modalities of currently available therapeutic options for chronic inflammation and cancer, emphasizing the dual nature of such therapies. A thorough understanding of the molecular basis of chronic inflammation is crucial for developing novel approaches in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
