Abstract
This study investigated the antiradical and antioxidant potential of the three families of lipopeptides (i.e., surfactin, mycosubtilin, and plipastatin/fengycin) produced by Bacillus subtilis strains. The antiradical/antioxidant activities of highly purified lipopeptides were studied in acellular models using a 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, superoxide anion (O 2 . - ), hydrogen peroxide, (H2O2) and hydroxyl radical (HO.). At a lipopeptide concentration of 500 mg.L-1, the maximum inhibition of DPPH reached 22.88% (obtained for plipastatin). Moreover, the scavenging effects ofO 2 . - , H2O2, and HO. at the highest concentration tested (250 mg.L-1) were found to be 6, 21, and 3% for surfactin, 19, 9, and 15% for mycosubtilin, 21, 18, and 59% for plipastatin, 21, 31, and 61% for the mixture of surfactin/plipastatin, and 13, 16, and 15% for the mixture of surfactin/mycosubtilin, respectively. These results showed that plipastatin was the best candidate due to its antioxidant activities.

Abstract
Bacteroides, an abundant genus in the intestines of mammals, has been recently considered as the next generation probiotics (NGP) candidate due to its potential role in promoting host health. However, the role of Bacteroides in the development of intestinal dysfunctions such as diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal cancer should not be overlooked. In the present study, we focused on nine most widely occurred and abundant Bacteroides species and discussed their roles in host immunity, glucose and lipid metabolism and the prevention or induction of diseases. Besides, we also discussed the current methods used in the safety evaluation of Bacteroides species and key opinions about the concerns of these strains for the future use.

Abstract
Little is known about fluorescent Pseudomonas and investigations are needed to help us better understand how their species work. The aim was here to mimic what naturally occurs in environmental water containing strains isolated from mid-mountain water samples and identified as Pseudomonas fluorescens by conventional biochemical techniques. Three strains were cultured before being directly inoculated into distilled water. Surprisingly, the three cell-less extracts obtained after spinning the bacterial suspensions showed strong in vitro anti-oxidative effects against superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical but with discrepancies. The extracts obtained were found to contain antioxidant proteins among other stress proteins that were released by viable bacteria. They were identified using tandem/mass spectrometry and showed different profiles in sodium-dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Bacterial identification was deepened using 16S ribonucleic acid and genome sequencing analyses to explain the differences observed between strains.

Abstract
The beneficial effects of dietary fiber on the reproductive performance and welfare of sows have been discussed broadly, but few researches examined the causal changes and the association of gut microbiota and the steroid hormones, the main regulators of reproductive function. To shed light on this, thirty-six Meishan sows were allocated into 2.5% crude fiber (CF) group and 7.5% CF group respectively for an entire farrowing interval. On the 90th day of gestation, the saliva and fresh stool of sows were individually collected in the morning (06:00-07:00) for steroid hormones, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and microbiome analysis. In addition, the parameter of pregnant behavioral and farrowing performance was recorded and evaluated. We observed that, as compared with the 2.5% CF treatment, 7.5% CF significantly increased the litter size (p = 0.01), reduced the stereotypic behaviors including sham chewing, rolling tongue and licking ground (p = 0.02, 0.04, 0.01) at later gestation stage, but increased lying time (p = 0.00). In coincide with this, 7.5% CF diet increased the salivary progesterone (p = 0.00), fecal estradiol and progesterone (p = 0.01, 0.02) level, fecal water and SCFAs content (p = 0.02, 0.03), decreased the salivary and fecal cortisol (p = 0.01, 0.00) level. Further, 7.5% CF diet increased the fecal microbiota richness (ACE, p = 0.04; Chao, p = 0.07) and diversity (Shannon, p = 0.01; Simpson, p = 0.04), the proportion of genus Ruminococcus, Butyrivibrio, Lactobacillus and Fibrobacter (p = 0.02, 0.05, 0.04, 0.00), whereas reduced the proportion of genus Clostridium, Streptococcus, Bacteroides and Escherichia-Shigella (p = 0.00, 0.00, 0.04, 0.04). These results indicate that, fibrous diet can regulate the steroid hormones secretion and modulate the gut with more cellulose-degrading and probiotic bacterium, but less opportunistic pathogens, and this may contribute to the improvement of reproductive performance and welfare in sows.

Abstract
Objectives: to determine if there are differences on the safety of the preparation of clean
surgical instruments using different types of gloves and bare hands and evaluate
the microbiological load of these preparations without gloves. Method: laboratory procedure with a pragmatic approach, in which the samples were handled
with different types of gloves and bare hands. In addition, cytotoxicity assays
were carried out by means of the agar diffusion method. Further samples were
subjected to microbiological analysis after being handled without gloves. Results: none of the samples showed cytotoxic effect. All microbiological cultures showed
growth of microorganisms, but no microorganism has been recovered after
autoclaving. Conclusion: there were no differences in the cytotoxic responses regarding the use of
different types of gloves and bare hands in the handling of clean surgical
instruments, which could entail iatrogenic risk. It is noteworthy that the use of
gloves involves increase in the costs of process and waste generation, and the
potential allergenic risk to latex.
