Rare Cases of Hibernomas Associated With Bilateral Pheochromocytoma: A Report of Two Cases

Hibernoma is an infrequent benign lipomatous tumor that shows differentiation to brown fat. It is a slowly growing tumor of variable consistency but often firmer than a classic lipoma, mobile, and rarely infiltrating. To date, there are only a few cases of adrenal hibernoma in the literature. Herein, we report two cases. The first one is that of a 24-year-old female presenting with a bilateral adrenal incidentaloma discovered in the setting of abdominal pain whose histological study individualized a bilateral pheochromocytoma associated with a hibernoma. The second case is that of a young male of 23 years old. He was operated on in adolescence (age 14) for a left pheochromocytoma. The outcome was marked by the recurrence of the Menards triad ("headache, palpitations, and sweating") and hypertension at the age of 23 years. It was due to the appearance of a contralateral right pheochromocytoma, whose histological study showed an association with a hibernoma, and the genetic study revealed Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease.

Resection of Hibernoma of the Proximal Shin Followed by Foot Drop and Tendon Transfer: A Case Report

This is the description of the case of a 42-year-old male who presented with a growing, painless lump on his anterior leg. The diagnosis of a rare tumor called hibernoma was suspected after inspection of the radiologic findings. The unusual location of the tumor resulted in superficial peroneal nerve entrapment. The tumor was excised and the diagnosis of hibernoma was confirmed by histopathology. Surgery resulted in foot drop that was successfully treated with a tibialis posterior tendon transfer. Our case illustrates a rare tumor in an unusual location that can be challenging for clinicians to discern and to properly treat.

Hibernoma of the thigh: a report of four cases

Hibernoma is a rare benign adypocyte tumour of brown fat. We report on 4 patients with hibernoma of the thigh. Clinical features and magnetic resonance imaging suggested the tumours were liposarcomas, but biopsy yielded the diagnosis of hibernoma. All 4 patients underwent complete excision of the tumour and had no recurrence.
