Abstract
Nowadays, environmental pollution has become a critical issue for both developed and developing countries. Because of excessive industrialization, burning of fossil fuels, mining and exploration, extensive agricultural activities, and plastics, the environment is being contaminated rapidly through soil, air, and water. There are a variety of approaches for treating environmental toxins, but each has its own set of restrictions. As a result, various therapies are accessible, and approaches that are effective, long-lasting, less harmful, and have a superior outcome are extensively demanded. Modern research advances focus more on polymer-based nanoparticles, which are frequently used in drug design, drug delivery systems, environmental remediation, power storage, transformations, and other fields. Bioinorganic nanomaterials could be a better candidate to control contaminants in the environment. In this article, we focused on their synthesis, characterization, photocatalytic process, and contributions to environmental remediation against numerous ecological hazards. In this review article, we also tried to explore their recent advancements and futuristic contributions to control and prevent various pollutants in the environment.

Abstract
Abstract
Response Surface Method (RSM) is one of the most popular and powerful tools for experimental design and optimization. This paper first reviewed the research progress of RSM in the separation and recovery of various radioactive materials, and verified the application of RSM in adsorption isotherm analysis and thermodynamic calculation. The main advantage of RSM in radioactive material separation is the reduction in the number of experiments required, resulting in considerably less radioactive material consumption, secondary waste generation, workload and radiation dose, which is valuable for the research of radioactive material separation.

Adsorption of thorium (IV) ions by metal ion doped ZnO nanomaterial prepared with combustion synthesis: Empirical modelling and process optimization by response surface methodology (RSM). Abstract
Environmental problems have reached enormous dimensions, driving efforts to remove and recycle waste from energy and industrial production. In particular, removing the radionuclide contamination that occurs as the nuclear industry grows is difficult and costly, but it is vital. Technologic and economical methods and advanced facilities are needed for the separation and purification of radioactive elements arising from the nuclear industry and uranium and thorium mining. With the adsorption method, which is the most basic separation and recovery method, the use of high-capacity nanomaterials has recently gained great importance in reducing the activity of the waste, reducing its volume by transforming it into solid form, and recovering and removing liquid radioactive wastes that might harm the ecological environment. This study aimed to determine the adsorption properties of metal ion-doped nano ZnO (nano-ZnO:Al) material synthesized by the microwave-assisted gel combustion method for the adsorption of thorium (IV) from aqueous media. First, characterization processes such as XRD, SEM, BET and zeta potential were performed to observe changes in the host ZnO adsorbent structure caused by the doping process. Later, this was optimized via the response surface method (RSM), which is widely used in the characterization of the adsorption properties of thorium (IV) from aqueous solutions. Such characterization is commonly used in industrial research. We tested how pH (3-8), temperature (20-60 °C), Th (IV) concentration (25-125 mg/L) and adsorbent amount (0.01-0.1 g) affect adsorption efficiency. The best possible combinations of these parameters were determined by RSM. It was calculated by RSM that the design fits the second order (quadratic) model using the central composite design (CCD) for the design of experimental conditions. R2 and R2 adjusted values from the parameters showing the model fit were 0.9923 and 0.9856, respectively. According to the model, the experimental adsorption capacity was 192.3 mg/g for the doped-ZnO nanomaterial under the theoretically specified optimum conditions. Also, the suitability of Th (IV) adsorption to isotherms was examined and thermodynamic parameters were calculated.

Abstract
Removal of lead from aqueous solutions was studied using nanocomposite absorbent of bentonite/-alumina. The novel absorbent was characterized using XRD, FT-IR and SEM-EDX. Absorption process optimization using response surface methodology (RSM) and experimental design was performed with central composite design technique. The effects of Pb(II) initial concentration, adsorbent dosage, and composite percentage on Pb(II) removal percentage and adsorption capacity were examined. The adsorption capacity of 166.559 mg/g and removal % of 82.9887 with desirability equal to 0.763 were obtained for optimal initial concentration of 200 mg•l-1, adsorbent dosage of 0.5 mg•l-1, and composite percentage of 7.08 % determined using RSM design. The equilibrium adsorption data were investigated by Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models. It was found that Freundlich isotherm model fits better compared with other models.

Abstract
Abstract
Sugarcane bagasse waste biomass (SBWB) efficacy for the adsorption of Zr(IV) was investigated in batch and column modes. The process variables i.e. pH 1–4 (A), adsorbent dosage 0.0–0.3 g (B), and Zr(IV) ions initial concentration 25–200 mg/L (C) were studied. The experiments were run under central composite design (CCD) and data was analysed by response surface methodology (RSM) methodology. The factor A, B, C, AB interaction and square factor A2, C2 affected the Zr(IV) ions adsorption onto SBWB. The quadratic model fitted well to the adsorption data with high R2 values. The effect of bed height, flow rate and Zr(IV) ions initial concentration was also studied for column mode adsorption and efficiency was evaluated by breakthrough curves as well as Bed Depth Service and Thomas models. Bed height and Zr(IV) ions initial concentration enhanced the adsorption of capacity of Zr(IV) ions, whereas flow rate reduced the column efficiency.

Abstract
Background:
In recent years, the Design of Experiments (DOE) is used for removing
pollutant from wastewater by nano-adsorbent. Some methods are Taguchi, Response Surface
Methodology (RSM) and factorial design. The aim of this paper is to review different used
methods of DOE in removing pollutant to suggest some notations to scholars.
Methods:
The reviewed papers were searched in Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science
randomly and categorized based on DOE methods.
Results:
Number of factors and responses in DOE for removing pollutants from wastewater are
between 2-6 and 1-4, respectively. There are several computer software programs that provide
simple use of these methods, such as Qualitek, Design Expert, Minitab, R and Matlab Programming.
All models have a coefficient of determination R-sq more than 0.9.
Conclusion:
All the mentioned methods are appropriate because of the high R-sq value. Since the
largest number of runs are used in RSM, it is not suitable for the experiments which are conducted
by expensive materials and process. Furthermore, Design Expert and Minitab are the most popular
software used by scholars in DOE methods for the removal of pollutant.

Abstract
Abstract
The adsorption of thorium(IV) was studied using a pseudo-polyrotaxane, which was obtained by the reaction of poly(propyleneglycol) (PPG) and 6-OTs-β-CD. The adsorption of thorium(IV) was examined as a function of the contact time, pH of the solution, adsorbent dose, concentration of thorium(IV) and temperature using batch adsorption experiments. The experimental results suggested that the optimum conditions were found to be at pH 3.5, contact time 40 min, 10 mg adsorbent doses, 20 mg L−1 thorium(IV) concentration and 298 K. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 15.366 mg g−1. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔG
0<0, ΔH
0<0) were calculated, the result showed that the adsorption of thorium(IV) was exothermic and spontaneous process.
