Abstract
Upconversion luminescence (UCL) is a fluorescence process where two or more lower-energy photons convert into a higher-energy photon. Lanthanide (Ln3+)-doped UCL materials often suffer from weak luminescence, especially when directly synthesized by a hydrothermal (HT) process due to the existing hydroxyl group and undesirable arrangement of dopants within host lattices which quench luminescence and limit energy transfer. Therefore, additional heat treatment processes are required to enhance their UCL emission, even though direct hydrothermal synthesis without further heat treatment has the advantages of low energy consumption, fast synthesis, and wide applicability to generate UCL materials. In this study, via a HT process without annealing, we have produced Yb3+ and Er3+ co-doped SrMoO4 submicron spindles with a strong green UCL emission which can be seen with the naked eye, which HT produced oxide-based UCL materials often fail to demonstrate. We have investigated different HT synthesis conditions, such as temperature, time, pH and dopant composition, which control the nucleation, growth, lattice structure arrangement, and ultimately their UCL properties through XRD, SEM, EDS and UCL measurements. The bright green UCL from the SrMoO4:Yb,Er submicron spindles is further enhanced by post-synthesis annealing within a molten NaNO3/KNO3 system to prevent particle size growth. The green UCL intensity from the annealed SrMoO4:Yb,Er submicron spindles surpasses samples produced by the solid-state method and is comparable to that from the commercial NaYF4:Yb,Er sample. We have further studied the temperature-dependent luminescence of both the HT-prepared and molten-salt annealed SrMoO4:Yb,Er submicron spindle samples. The strong UCL from our SrMoO4:Yb,Er submicron spindles could warrant their candidacy for bioimaging and anticounterfeiting applications.

Abstract
Bi2WO6 flower-like materials (FMs) were prepared by a hydrothermal method, followed by an in-situ reduction method to prepare Au@Bi2WO6 FMs. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to characterize the samples. It was discovered that the calculated OV content of Au@Bi2WO6 FMs is 25.16% whereas that of Bi2WO6 FMs is 20.81%, offering appropriate active sites for the absorption of gases and thus enhancing outstanding sensing property. Moreover, the detection of volatile and hazardous substances such as formaldehyde, methanol, acetone, benzene, toluene, and xylene was carried out to assess the efficacy of the Au@Bi2WO6 FMs sensors. The optimal operating temperatures for the Bi2WO6 FMs and Au@Bi2WO6 FMs sensors were 290 and 260 °C, respectively. Compared with Au@Bi2WO6 FMs sensor and Bi2WO6 FMs one, the best response of the front was 250 (900)-100 (800) ppm formaldehyde whereas that of the latter was 90 (230). Therefore, Au@ Bi2WO6 FMs have good response and selectivity, which are promising candidates for formaldehyde detection.

Abstract
Bifunctional photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) have attracted growing interest to understand the mechanisms governing different evolution reactions, and the bifunctional activity of a single type of crystalline photocatalyst has gained especial attention. We herein report the high photocatalytic OER and HER activities of Bi2WO6 nanoplates (BWO NPs) which are synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, and the switchable OER and HER performances controlled by the pH value of the precursor solvent. In the pH range from 4 to 9, the thickness of BWO NPs along the [001] direction exhibits interesting dependence on the pH value, which decreases as the pH value increases. Correspondingly, the BWO NPs obtained at the pH value of 7 (BWO-7) show the highest photocatalytic OER activity, while the BWO NPs synthesized at the pH value of 9 (BWO-9) exhibit the highest photoactivity towards HER. The electronic band structure analysis indicates that the highest photocatalytic OER activity is related to the band alignment of the valence band maximum of Bi2WO6, which determines the efficient separation of photogenerated electrons and holes as well as the fast charge transfer kinetics. The crystal facet evolution resulting from thickness reduction promotes the exposure of {001} facets for HER and decreases the exposure of {100} and {010} facets for OER. This work provides new insights into the combined effects of crystal facets and electronic band structures on photocatalysis.

Abstract
Abstract
The environmental repercussions of wastewater from the dye process mean that it is very important to obtain an eco-friendly photocatalyst that would degrade wastewater. Herein, bismuth tungstate/graphene oxide (Bi2WO6/GO) composites are fabricated through in-situ hydrothermal reaction and then the Bi2WO6/GO photocatalysts are deposited onto polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fabric. The obtained Bi2WO6/GO deposited PET fabrics are then characterized through XPS, Raman, SEM, TEM, XRD, UV-vis, BET method and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) to investigate their chemical and crystal structures, morphology, optical property, surface area and photochemical properties. Photocatalytic performance is studied through examining the rate of degrading rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light. Surface of PET fibers is densely covered with Bi2WO6/GO. Bi2WO6/GO deposited PET fabrics show a broad absorption band in the visible spectra. Removal rate of RhB on the Bi2WO6/GO deposited PET fabric is the highest with the GO content of 2 g/L (labeled as Bi2WO6/2 g/LGO). The result of active species experiment shows that superoxide radicals (·O2−) plays a major role in the degradation of RhB. Moreover, Bi2WO6/2 g/LGO deposited PET fabric shows excellent cycle stability of photocatalytic degradation for RhB. The findings in this work can be extended to preparation other types of composite on the textile for photocatalysis, which can be applied to remove dyes in the wastewater produced by the textile or leather industry.
