Implementation of the RBF neural chip with the back-propagation algorithm for on-line learning

Data-Driven Real-Time Magnetic Tracking Applied to Myokinetic Interfaces

A new concept of human-machine interface to control hand prostheses based on displacements of multiple magnets implanted in the limb residual muscles, the myokinetic control interface, has been recently proposed. In previous works, magnets localization has been achieved following an optimization procedure to find an approximate solution to an analytical model. To simplify and speed up the localization problem, here we employ machine learning models, namely linear and radial basis functions artificial neural networks, which can translate measured magnetic information to desired commands for active prosthetic devices. They were developed offline and then implemented on field-programmable gate arrays using customized floating-point operators. We optimized computational precision, execution time, hardware, and energy consumption, as they are essential features in the context of wearable devices. When used to track a single magnet in a mockup of the human forearm, the proposed data-driven strategy achieved a tracking accuracy of 720 μm 95% of the time and latency of 12.07 μs. The proposed system architecture is expected to be more power-efficient compared to previous solutions. The outcomes of this work encourage further research on improving the devised methods to deal with multiple magnets simultaneously.

On-line prediction of ferrous ion concentration in goethite process based on self-adjusting structure RBF neural network

Outlet ferrous ion concentration is an essential indicator to manipulate the goethite process in the zinc hydrometallurgy plant. However, it cannot be measured on-line, which leads to the delay of this feedback information. In this study, a self-adjusting structure radial basis function neural network (SAS-RBFNN) is developed to predict the outlet ferrous ion concentration on-line. First, a supervised cluster algorithm is proposed to initialize the RBFNN. Then, the network structure is adjusted by the developed self-adjusting structure mechanism. This mechanism can merge or divide the hidden neurons according to the distance of the clusters to achieve the adaptability of the RBFNN. Finally, the connection weights are determined by the gradient-based algorithm. The convergence of the SAS-RBFNN is analyzed by the Lyapunov criterion. A simulation for a benchmark problem shows the effectiveness of the proposed network. The SAS-RBFNN is then applied to predict the outlet ferrous ion concentration in the goethite process. The results demonstrate that this network can provide a more accurate prediction than the mathematical model, even under the fluctuating production condition.

A hybrid intelligent method for three-dimensional short-term prediction of dissolved oxygen content in aquaculture

A precise predictive model is important for obtaining a clear understanding of the changes in dissolved oxygen content in crab ponds. Highly accurate interval forecasting of dissolved oxygen content is fundamental to reduce risk, and three-dimensional prediction can provide more accurate results and overall guidance. In this study, a hybrid three-dimensional (3D) dissolved oxygen content prediction model based on a radial basis function (RBF) neural network, K-means and subtractive clustering was developed and named the subtractive clustering (SC)-K-means-RBF model. In this modeling process, K-means and subtractive clustering methods were employed to enhance the hyperparameters required in the RBF neural network model. The comparison of the predicted results of different traditional models validated the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed hybrid SC-K-means-RBF model for three-dimensional prediction of dissolved oxygen content. Consequently, the proposed model can effectively display the three-dimensional distribution of dissolved oxygen content and serve as a guide for feeding and future studies.

Dissolved oxygen content prediction in crab culture using a hybrid intelligent method

A precise predictive model is needed to obtain a clear understanding of the changing dissolved oxygen content in outdoor crab ponds, to assess how to reduce risk and to optimize water quality management. The uncertainties in the data from multiple sensors are a significant factor when building a dissolved oxygen content prediction model. To increase prediction accuracy, a new hybrid dissolved oxygen content forecasting model based on the radial basis function neural networks (RBFNN) data fusion method and a least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) with an optimal improved particle swarm optimization(IPSO) is developed. In the modelling process, the RBFNN data fusion method is used to improve information accuracy and provide more trustworthy training samples for the IPSO-LSSVM prediction model. The LSSVM is a powerful tool for achieving nonlinear dissolved oxygen content forecasting. In addition, an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is developed to determine the optimal parameters for the LSSVM with high accuracy and generalizability. In this study, the comparison of the prediction results of different traditional models validates the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed hybrid RBFNN-IPSO-LSSVM model for dissolved oxygen content prediction in outdoor crab ponds.
