Abstract
The kinetics studies is of great importance for the understanding of the mechanism of hemicellulose pyrolysis and expanding the applications of hemicellulose. In the past years, rapid progress has been paid on the kinetics studies of hemicellulose hydrolysis. In this article, we first introduced the hydrolysis of hemicelluloses via various strategies such as autohydrolysis, dilute acid hydrolysis, catalytic hydrolysis, and enzymatic hydrolysis. Then, the history of kinetic models during hemicellulose hydrolysis was summarized. Special attention was paid to the oligosaccharides as intermediates or substrates, acid as catalyst, and thermogravimetric as analyzer method during the hemicellulose hydrolysis. Furthermore, the problems and suggestions of kinetic models during hemicellulose hydrolysis was provided. It expected that this article will favor the understanding of the mechanism of hemicellulose pyrolysis.

Abstract
To enhance the cellulose hydrolysis at high solid loadings, an increased mixing intensity is generally required for the high solid loading hydrolysis, while it leads to higher energy consumption. In this study, the impact of mixing intensity on cellulose conversion during hydrolysis at different solid loadings were systematically studied. It was found that the increased mixing intensity is not necessary for more efficient cellulose hydrolysis. For cellulose hydrolysis at higher solid loadings, a lower mixing intensity is needed for a higher cellulose conversion. Although the increased mixing intensity promoted enzyme adsorption, it strengthened product inhibition and caused severer enzyme deactivation. Besides, mixing at the initial stage of cellulose hydrolysis was more crucial, while continuous mixing throughout the hydrolysis was not required for more efficient cellulose hydrolysis. Based on the mechanism study, a combined mixing strategy was developed to achieve efficient cellulose hydrolysis with about two-third reduction in energy consumption.

JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2021; 402:123573. Abstract
The viscose fiber production process is accompanied by the accumulation of pulp-impregnated effluent (PIE), including hemicellulose and large amounts of alkali, and discharge of PIE will cause environment pollution. This paper aims to relieve the inhibition of high concentration of alkali on xylose production from hydrolysis of hemicellulose in PIE. Based on the fact that solid acid uses H+ at the acid sites to exchange with cations in PIE and can be recycled, a two-step method including an extra pretreatment process before pre-hydrolysis (SPP) is proposed. After the alkali was removed by the H+ dissociated from solid acid in the extra pretreatment process, the pH of PIE dropped from 14 to 4, and the content of Na+ and proteins was reduced by 99.13 % and 78.51 %, respectively. After SPP, the polymerization degree of the hemicellulose decreased by 73.4 %, and the subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis process was promoted. Finally, the xylose yield of SPP followed by enzymatic hydrolysis reached 57.15 g/L, which was 145.38 % more than that of enzymatic hydrolysis alone. The load of a downstream ion purification procedure was relieved compared to that of inorganic acid hydrolysis. The development of SPP contributes to the resource utilization of high alkali concentration wastewater.

Abstract
Spent coffee grounds are a huge residual stream from instant coffee makers. The production of spent coffee oil and molecular weight fractionated hemicellulose hydrolysates via supercritical CO2 and a hydrothermal treatment followed by concentration, separation, and purification through cascade ultrafiltration/diafiltration (30-10-5 kDa) was studied. Hemicelluloses extraction yield reached 3.49 g/100 g of dry defatted spent coffee after 40 min at 160 °C. The ultrafiltration system allowed concentrating up to 5-fold certain groups of hemicellulose, being most of them retained in the first membrane. Hemicellulose concentration and molecular weight of the feed exerted a great influence on the mass transfer through the membrane due to the formation of aggregates. However, purification through diafiltration allowed both to decrease by-products retentions from 45.6% to 8.7%, increasing the molecular weight of each fraction. Six hemicellulose products were obtained with purities between 83.7 and 97.8 wt% and weight-average molecular weights between 1641 and 49,733 Da.

BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR BIOFUELS 2019; 12:159. Abstract
BACKGROUND Wheat straw, the most abundant lignocellulosic biomass in China, is rich in cellulose that can be hydrolyzed and then converted into biofuels, such as bioethanol and biohydrogen. However, the accessibility of cellulose and the enzyme activity are greatly reduced in the presence of lignin. This significantly increases the enzyme cost in the saccharification, which hampers industrial production of lignocellulosic biofuels. In this study, a laccase treatment system mediated by 1-hydroxybenzotriazole was employed to modify and degrade lignin to enhance subsequent enzymatic saccharification of wheat straw. A kinetic model considering enzyme adsorption on lignin was proposed to estimate the saccharification performance. RESULTS Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analyses showed that the peak intensity of lignin structure characteristics significantly changed after laccase-mediated system (LMS) treatment. 2D-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses indicated that the aromatic ether bonds were cleaved and that guaiacyl (G) was oxidized after LMS treatment. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses suggested that the crystallinity of lignocellulose increased due to the partial degradation of lignin. As a result, the nonproductive adsorption of the enzyme on lignin was reduced by 28%, while the reducing sugar yield increased by 26%. A semi-empirical kinetic model was used to estimate the reducing sugar yield, the initial hydrolysis rate (K M ) and deactivation rate coefficient (α) of LMS-pretreated wheat straw were 0.157 (h-1) and 0.214 (h-1), respectively. The model showed high accuracy (predicting error < 10%) for describing the behavior of laccase-treated wheat straw hydrolysis when the solid loading is < 5%. CONCLUSIONS The adsorption ability of the enzyme to lignin was reduced after LMS pretreatment. Physicochemical analyses showed that the chemical groups of lignin and lignocellulose were changed, with the crystallinity of the lignocellulose increasing after LMS treatment. A semi-empirical kinetic model was proposed to estimate the reducing sugar yield, which showed high accuracy for predicting the hydrolysis performance of laccase-treated wheat straw.
