Abstract
DNA tetrahedron-modified silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were achieved via amino-silver chemistry for the first time and were applied as a colorimetric biosensor for detecting HIV-related DNA. Target DNA initiated strand displacement polymerization and nicking endonuclease-aided cycles were involved to link DNA tetrahedron-modified AgNPs, reporting colorimetric responses. This developed method showed excellent specificity and sensitivity. A wide linear range from 1 to 15 000 nM was achieved with a limit of detection of 0.84 nM. Moreover, it was successfully applied to determine DNA in blood serum samples.

Abstract
The emergence of nanostructured materials has opened new horizons in the development of next generation biosensors. Being able to control the design of the electrode interface at the nanoscale combined with the intrinsic characteristics of the nanomaterials engenders novel biosensing platforms with improved capabilities. The purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive and critical overview of the latest trends in emerging nanostructured electrochemical biosensors. A detailed description and discussion of recent approaches to construct label-free electrochemical nanostructured electrodes is given with special focus on pathogen detection for environmental monitoring and food safety. This includes the use of nanoscale materials such as nanotubes, nanowires, nanoparticles, and nanosheets as well as porous nanostructured materials including nanoporous anodic alumina, mesoporous silica, porous silicon, and polystyrene nanochannels. These platforms may pave the way toward the development of point-of-care portable electronic devices for applications ranging from environmental analysis to biomedical diagnostics.

Abstract
In this work, a novel colorimetric strategy for miRNA analysis is proposed based on hybridization chain reaction (HCR)-mediated localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) variation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). miRNA in the sample to be tested is able to release HCR initiator from a solid interface to AgNPs colloid system by toehold exchange-mediated strand displacement, which then triggers the consumption of fuel strands with single-stranded tails for HCR. The final produced long nicked double-stranded DNA loses the ability to protect AgNPs from salt-induced aggregation. The stability variation of the colloid system can then be monitored by recording corresponding UV-vis spectrum and initial miRNA level is thus determined. This sensing system involves only four DNA strands which is quite simple. The practical utility is confirmed to be excellent by employing different biological samples.

Abstract
Clenbuterol, a member of β-agonist family, has now been a serious threat to human health due to its illegal usage in the livestock feeding. Herein, we describe the application of melamine functionalized silver nanoparticles (M-AgNPs) as the electrochemical probe for simple, fast, highly sensitive and selective detection of clenbuterol. Generally, AgNPs are prepared and functionalized by melamine. After interacting with melamine modified gold electrode in the presence of clenbuterol, M-AgNPs can be immobilized on the surface of the electrode via the hydrogen-bonding interactions between clenbuterol and melamine. This sandwich structure permits sensitive and selective detection of clenbuterol. Since M-AgNPs can provide a couple of well-defined sharp silver stripping peaks, which stands for a highly characteristic solid-state Ag/AgCl reaction, a rather low detection limit of 10 pM can be achieved. The detection range is from 10 pM to 100 nM, which is quite wide. This developed biosensor can potentially be used for clenbuterol detection in biological fluids in the presence of various interferences.

Abstract
A new strategy for homogeneous protein detection is developed based on a cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) functionalized electrode. The analytical procedure consists of the binding of target protein to its aptamer in the test solution, followed by an exonuclease-catalyzed digestion of methylene blue (MB) tag labeled DNA oligonucleotides. Since CB[7] molecules immobilized on the electrode may efficiently capture the released MB-labeled nucleotides, the MB tags are concentrated to the electrode surface and subsequently yield highly sensitive electrochemical signal, which is related to the concentration of the target protein. The method combines the host-guest properties of CB[7] with the immobilization-free homogeneous assay, providing a powerful tool for protein detection. Taking the detection of osteopontin as an example, the proposed method can have a linear response to the target protein in a range from 50 to 500 ng mL(-1) with a detection limit of 10.7 ng mL(-1). It can also show high specificity and good reproducibility, and can be used directly for the assay of osteopontin in serum samples.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are well known for their excellent antibacterial ability and superior physical properties, and are widely used in a growing number of applications ranging from home disinfectants and medical devices to water purificants. However, with the accelerating production and introduction of AgNPs into commercial products, there is likelihood of release into the environment, which raises health and environmental concerns. This article provides a critical review of the state-of-knowledge about AgNPs, involving the history, analysis, source, fate and transport, and potential risks of AgNPs. Although great efforts have been made in each of these aspects, there are still many questions to be answered to reach a comprehensive understanding of the positive and negative effects of AgNPs. In order to fully investigate the fate and transport of AgNPs in the environment, appropriate methods for the preconcentration, separation and speciation of AgNPs should be developed, and analytical tools for the characterization and detection of AgNPs in complicated environmental samples are also urgently needed. To elucidate the environmental transformation of AgNPs, the behavior of AgNPs should be thoroughly monitored in complex environmental relevant conditions. Furthermore, additional in vivo toxicity studies should be carried out to understand the exact toxicity mechanism of AgNPs, and to predict the health effects to humans.

Abstract
The complexation of nucleosides and nucleotides by hybrid nanoparticles capped by para-sulfonato-calix[4]arene shows clear discrimination between purine and pyrimidine based molecules. For the pyrimidine nucleotides there is appearance of a new absorption band around 550 nm, and a colour change from yellow to orange red and pink.
