Abstract
As an emerging porous material, hydrogen-bonded organic framework materials (HOFs) still pose application challenges. In this work, the designed type "I + II" heterojunction extracted hot electrons from HOFs using quantum dots (QDs) and polypyrrole (Ppy), improving the stability and photoelectrochemical performance of materials. In addition to serving as a potential well, electropolymerized Ppy was used as a recognition element for bisphenol A (BPA), and a novel self-powered molecularly imprinted photoelectrochemical (MIP-PEC) sensor was designed. The sensing platform showed a linear relationship from 1 × 10-10 to 1 × 10-7 mol∙L-1 and from 1 × 10-7 to 1 mol∙L-1 with an acceptable detection limit of 4.2 × 10-11 mol∙L-1. This is the first application of HOFs in constructing MIP-PEC sensors and a new attempt to improve the stability of HOFs for the application of porous crystal materials in the sensing field.

Abstract
Human health and ecology are seriously threatened by harmful environmental contaminants. It is essential to develop efficient and simple methods for their detection. Environmental pollutants can be detected using photoelectrochemical (PEC) detection technologies. The key ingredient in the PEC sensing system is the photoactive material. Due to the unique characteristics, such as a large surface area, enhanced exposure of active sites, and effective mass capture and diffusion, porous materials have been regarded as ideal sensing materials for the construction of PEC sensors. Extensive efforts have been devoted to the development and modification of PEC sensors based on porous materials. However, a review of the relationship between detection performance and the structure of porous materials is still lacking. In this work, we present an overview of PEC sensors based on porous materials. A number of typical porous materials are introduced separately, and their applications in PEC detection of different types of environmental pollutants are also discussed. More importantly, special attention has been paid to how the porous material's structure affects aspects like sensitivity, selectivity, and detection limits of the associated PEC sensor. In addition, future research perspectives in the area of PEC sensors based on porous materials are presented.

Abstract
An ultrasensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor was originally designed by using ZnIn2S4/ReS2 as a photoactive material and AgInS2 as a signal amplifier. The signal amplifier AgInS2 was incubated on the terminal of H-DNA (immobilized on the ZnIn2S4/ReS2/FTO surface), leading to an enhanced photocurrent response. Then, due to the introduction of DNA2, the formation of a double-stranded structure caused AgInS2 to keep away from the electrode surface, and the photocurrent was reduced. In the presence of kanamycin, DNA2 was released from the system due to the competition relationship, and a restored photocurrent response was obtained. The combination of ZnIn2S4/ReS2 and AgInS2 accelerated the electron transfer and enhanced the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, resulting in an improved performance of the PEC aptasensor, which was capable of accurate and sensitive detection of kanamycin in actual samples.

Abstract
The semiconductor-like characteristics and light absorption ability of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) make it have the potential for photoelectrochemical sensing. Compared with composite and modified materials, the specific recognition of harmful substances directly using MOFs with suitable structures can undoubtedly simplify the fabrication of sensors. Herein, two photosensitive uranyl-organic frameworks (UOFs) named HNU-70 and HNU-71 were synthesized and explored as the novel "turn-on" photoelectrochemical sensors, which can be directly applied to monitor the biomarker of anthrax (dipicolinic acid). Both sensors have good selectivity and stability towards dipicolinic acid with the low detection limits of 1.062 and 1.035 nM, respectively, which are far lower than the human infection concentration. Moreover, they exhibit good applicability in the real physiological environment of human serum, demonstrating a good application prospect. Spectroscopic and electrochemical studies show that the mechanism of photocurrent enhancement results from the interaction between dipicolinic acid and UOFs, which facilitates the photogenerated electron transport.

Abstract
Antibiotic monitoring remains vital to ensure human health and safety in the environment and foods. As the most popular detection method, photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor can achieve rapid and accurate detection of antibiotics with the advantages of high sensitivity, easy-to-preparation process, as well as high selectivity. Herein, an extremely-efficient visible-light responsible ZnO/C nanocomposite was prepared and combined with acetylene black (as an enhanced conductive matrix), and the electron migration efficiency was greatly accelerated. Meanwhile, a molecularly imprinted polymer obtained by electrical agglomeration was conjugated as a specific recognizing site for target. Furthermore, the as-prepared rMIP-PEC sensor showed a low detection limit (8.75 pmol L-1, S/N = 3) in a wide linear detection range of 0.01-1000 nmol L-1 for oxytetracycline (OTC), with excellent selectivity and long-term stability. Our work shed light on applying C-doped ZnO semiconductor and molecularly imprinted polymer as photoelectric active sensing materials for rapid and accurate analysis of antibiotics in foods and environment.

Abstract
A universal design of turn-on fluorescent aptasensor based on aptamer functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) complex (AuNPs-Apt/NH2-MIL-125(Ti)) was realized for bisphenol A (BPA) detection. LMOF NH2-MIL-125(Ti) was prepared using facial hydrothermal method. BPA aptamer functionalized AuNPs were prepared and adsorbed on the surface of NH2-MIL-125(Ti) to obtain platform of the fluorescent aptasensor. The fabrication process, sensing performance and applicability of the proposed aptasensor were characterized and investigated carefully. Linear detection range of the constructed aptasensor was from 1 × 10-9 mol L-1 to 1 × 10-4 mol L-1 with good selectivity, repeatability, stability and reproducibility under optimal experimental conditions. Meanwhile, the fluorescent aptasensor was successfully utilized for BPA detection in real samples with the recoveries of 95.80%-103.12%. The proposed aptasensor based on AuNPs-Apt/NH2-MIL-125(Ti) holds significant potential for BPA detection in environmental and food samples, promoting the construction and application of LMOFs-based aptasensor.

Abstract
The development of superior photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors for biosensing has become a major objective of PEC research. However, conventional PEC-active materials are typically constrained by a weak photocurrent response owing to their limited surface-active sites and high electron-hole recombination rate. Here, a boron and graphene quantum dots codoped g-C3N4 (named GBCN) as PEC sensor for highly sensitive dopamine (DA) detection was fabricated. GBCN exhibited the greatest photocurrent response and PEC activity compared to free g-C3N4 and g-C3N4 doped with boron. The proposed PEC sensor for DA determination exhibited a broad linear range (0.001-800 μM) and a low detection limit (0.96 nM). In particular, a sensitivity up to 10.3771 μA/μM/cm2 was seen in the case of GBCN. The high PEC activity can be attributed to the following factors: (1) the boron and graphene quantum dots co-doping significantly increased the specific surface area of g-C3N4, providing more adsorption sites for DA; (2) the dopants extended the absorption intensity of g-C3N4, red-shifting the absorption from 470 to 540 nm; and (3) the synergism of boron and graphene quantum dots efficiently boosted the photogenerated electrons migration from the conduction band of g-C3N4 to graphene quantum dots, facilitating charge separation. In addition, GBCN also exhibited good anti-interference ability and stability. This research may shed light on the creation of a highly sensitive and selective PEC platform for detecting biomolecules.

Abstract
A novel metal-organic framework (MOF)/covalent-organic framework (COF) heterostructure hybrid composite (NH2-UiO-66/TpPa-1-COF) with excellent photoactivity was developed, which further acted as the photoelectrochemical sensitized layer of a molecularly imprinted photoelectrochemical (MIP-PEC) sensor for extremely sensitive and selective determination of dibutyl phthalate (DBP). The NH2-UiO-66/TpPa-1-COF was synthesized using a simple one-step solvothermal method, which showed improved photocurrent response owing to heterojunction formation, favorable energy-band configuration and strong light absorption capacity. To improve the sensing performance, molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was developed by sol-gel polymerization method as the recognition component of PEC sensor. The specific binding of imprinting sites towards DBP could block the electron transfer, causing decreased photocurrent response of the MIP-PEC sensor. The MIP-PEC sensor showed a wide detection range from 0.1 nmol L-1 to 100 μmol L-1 with a limit of detection of 3.0 × 10-11 mol L-1 under optimal conditions. Meanwhile, the proposed MIP-PEC sensor showed good stability, selectivity, reproducibility, and applicability in real samples. This is the first attempt to apply MOF/COF heterostructure hybrid composite for MIP-PEC sensor construction, providing new insight into the potential applications of microporous crystalline framework heterostructure hybrid composite in the sensing field.

Abstract
Oxytetracycline (OTC) residue in food and environment has potential threats to ecosystem and human health, thus its sensitive monitoring and effective elimination are very important. In this work, a new molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) composite was prepared through atom transfer radical polymerization by using OTC as template, gold nanoparticles modified carbon nanospheres (Au-CNS) as supporter, ionic liquids (IL) as functional monomer and cross-linking agent. The obtained MIP-IL@Au-CNS composite was characterized by Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. It displayed high imprinting factor (5.50) and adsorption capacity (56.7 mg g-1), and could achieved the adsorption equilibrium in short time (about 15 min). Results also illustrated that the adsorption process basically conformed to the quasi-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model, and MIP-IL@Au-CNS could be recycled at least 5 times. Furthermore, a sensitive OTC electrochemical sensor was developed by combining MIP-IL@Au-CNS with IL-modified carbon nanocomposites (IL@N-rGO-MWCNT). The resulting sensor demonstrated a linear response to OTC in the wide range of 0.02-20 μM, and the detection limit was down to 5 nM. It also had the advantages of high selectivity, fast elution/regeneration and simple construction procedure. The sensor had been applied to the detection of real samples, and acceptable recovery (96.4%-106%) and RSD (3.2%-6.2%) were obtained. This work expands the application of IL-based MIP in pollutant monitoring and enriching.

Abstract
Excessive phosphate poses a serious ecological and human health risk, and thereby, monitoring its trace concentration is of great significance to environmental protection and human health. In this work, a zirconium-porphyrin framework (PCN-222) with excellent stability and unique luminescence properties was designed to modify the surface of the indium tin oxide electrode, which was first used as a photoelectrochemical (PEC) probe for phosphate detection. The PCN-222-modified PEC probe demonstrated an excellent selectivity and stability and indicated a linear response to phosphate in the range of 0-106 nM with a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 1.964 nM. To the best of our knowledge, this is the phosphate probe with the lowest LOD, and this is also the first signal-on PEC probe toward phosphate based on PCN-222. More importantly, the PEC probe can be validated for the good applicability of trace phosphate detection in real water samples, indicating a good application prospect. Finally, a series of electrochemical and spectroscopic studies have proved that phosphate can bind to the indium tin oxide (ITO)/PCN-222 electrode, which shortens the distance of the space charge region while reducing the bandwidth and thus facilitates the transfer of photogenerated electrons across the energy band barrier to reduce O2 in the electrolyte, producing an enhanced cathodic photocurrent signal. The proposed strategy of the highly sensitive PEC probe provides a promising platform for more effective label-free phosphate monitoring in the environment and organisms.

Abstract
A photoactive molecularly imprinted poly(2,5-benzimidazole)-modified vanadium dioxide-cupric tungstate (VO2-CuWO4) as an efficient photosensitive n-n type-II heterojunction thin film was electrochemically deposited on Ti substrate for the selective and robust photoelectrochemical (PEC) bioanalysis of dopamine (DA). The optical absorption of n-VO2/n-CuWO4 type-II heterojunction was capably broadened toward the visible region, which permitted superior light-harvesting and robust carriers generation, separation, and transfer processes significantly enhancing the anodic photocurrent, as confirmed by a series of PEC analyses. Findings revealed that the as-prepared label-free MIP-PEC sensor can quantitatively monitor DA in a linear range of 1 nM to 200 μM with a detection limit of 0.15 nM. This MIP-PEC sensor showed robust selectivity under conditions with high concentrations of interfering substances, which can be recovered in the real samples of urine, cocoa chocolate, and diluted yogurt, indicating its promising potential applications in biological and food samples. This work not only featured the use of photoelectrically active MIP/VO2-CuWO4 for PEC detection of DA, but also provided a new horizon for the design and implementation of functional polymers/metal oxides heterojunction materials in the field of PEC sensors and biosensors.

Abstract
A self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor was constructed based on MIL-68(In) derived indium oxide hollow nanotubes (In2O3 HNs) and Ag-doped ZnIn2S4 quantum dots (QDs) as sensing matrix for the ultrasensitive detection of oxytetracycline (OTC). The hollow tube structure of the designed photoelectric active platform provided abundant active sites and a larger specific surface area for the immobilization of target recognition unit. The coupling of Ag:ZnIn2S4 QDs and In2O3 HNs can accelerate the transmit and separation of photoinduced charge, and thus greatly increasing the intensity of photocurrent signal. Then, the well-constructed OTC-aptamer was anchored on the modified photoelectrode as an accurate capturing element, achieving the specific detection of analyte. Under optimal conditions, the photocurrent intensity of the PEC aptasensor decreases linearly, with a linear response range of 10-4 -10 nmol/L, and a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.3 × 10-5 nmol/L (S/N = 3). The developed self-powered aptasensor with excellent reproducibility, stability, and selectivity, provides a potential way to detect antibiotic residues in environmental media.

Abstract
We developed a novel metal-organic framework (MOF)@covalent-organic framework (COF) hybrid with a hierarchical nanostructure and excellent photoactivity, which further acted as the bifunctional platform of a dual-mode photoelectrochemical (PEC) and electrochemical (EC) biosensor for detecting HIV-1 DNA via immobilizing the HIV-1 DNA probe. First, the presynthesized Cu-MOF nanoellipsoids were used as the template for the in situ growth of the COF network, which was synthesized using copper-phthalocyanine tetra-amine (CoPc-TA) and 2,9-bis[p-(formyl)phenyl]-1,10-phenanthroline as building blocks through the Schiff base condensation. In view of the large specific surface area, abundant reserved amino group, excellent electrochemical activity, and high photoactivity, the obtained Cu-MOF@CuPc-TA-COF heterostructure not only can serve as the sensitive platform for anchoring the HIV-1 DNA probe strands but also can be utilized as the signal transducers for PEC and EC biosensors. Thereby, the constructed biosensor shows the sensitive and selective analysis ability toward the HIV-1 target DNA via the complementary hybridization between probe and target DNA strands. The dual-mode PEC and EC measurements revealed that the Cu-MOF@CuPc-TA-COF-based biosensor displayed a wide linear detection range from 1 fM to 1 nM and an extremely low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.07 and 0.18 fM, respectively. In addition, the dual-mode PEC-EC biosensor also demonstrated remarkable selectivity, high stability, good reproducibility, and preferable regeneration ability, as well as acceptable applicability, for which the detected HIV-1 DNA in human serum showed good consistency with real concentrations. Thereby, the present work can open a new dual-mode PEC-EC platform for detecting HIV-1 DNA based on the porous-organic framework heterostructure.
