Abstract
Personalized medicine has become an important direction to offer better solutions for health problems. In implantology, this trend was materialized through customizing dental abutments to each clinical situation. The demands for better esthetics and function of implant-supported restorations have imposed a more personalized variety of prosthetic abutments. This retrospective study compared clinical efficiency of personalized implant abutments with standard implant abutments in multiple implant restorations. Clinical data of patients who were admitted in a private clinic between 2011 and 2022 and received dental implant treatments were collected. All complications and undesired events from the patients' medical record charts were statistically analyzed. The implants were loaded using either standard or customized abutments. For complete arch rehabilitations with the SKY Fast & Fixed protocol, standard titanium prosthetic abutments were used. Our results suggest that the abutments choice for patients has moved throughout the years more towards the use of customized abutments. The number of customized abutments (414) was higher compared with the number of standard abutments (293). In our database, the most used abutments for the anterior area implants were made of titanium and zirconia, whereas for the posterior area, the preferred abutments were mostly titanium. The standard abutments were used almost entirely for immediate loading and implantation in both anterior and posterior areas (Fast & Fixed protocol). Complications were encountered mainly in restorations with standard abutments (9.22%) compared to customized abutments (2.7%), with titanium abutments being the most reliable, having only 1.79% complications.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this review was to evaluate the survival rates of restorations utilizing titanium base abutments (TBA) for restoring single-unit implant prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS This review was conducted following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The focus question was: In patients who require the restoration of a single dental implant utilizing a titanium base abutment, what are the determining factors and outcomes relating to implant prosthesis prognosis and survival? A comprehensive search of databases (PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library) was conducted on 16 April 2023 and updated on 5 May 2023. Randomized clinical trials (RCT), retrospective studies and prospective studies, reporting on the use of TBA for single implant prostheses, were reviewed. A Cochrane collaboration risk of bias assessment analysis was performed for randomized clinical studies, and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale tool was applied for non-randomized studies. A meta-analysis was performed on clinical trials reporting on survival rates of both TBA and other abutments. Other clinical studies, reporting on TBA only, were included for descriptive statistics. RESULTS The search provided 1159 titles after duplicates were removed. Six RCTs were included to perform a meta-analysis and compare the survival of the TBA to other abutments [OR 0.74; 95% CI: 0.21-2.63, heterogeneity; I2 0%; p = .99]. Twenty-three prospective and retrospective studies fulfilled the criteria and were included in the meta-analysis after 12 months of function. A total of 857 single implant-supported prostheses fabricated with a TBA were included. TBA abutments have an estimate 98.6% survival rate after 1 year in function (95% CI: 97.9%-99.4%). The mean follow-up period was 31.2 ± 16.9 months. CONCLUSIONS Single implant prosthesis restored with titanium base abutments showed favourable short-term survival rates.

Abstract
To determine the clinical performance of zirconia abutment (ZA) by comparing with a titanium abutment (TA) and sub-mucosal-modified zirconia abutment. A systematic search was conducted to retrieve eligible randomised controlled trials (RCTs) from Medline, Cochrane Library, SCOPUS, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. A search was further divided in two parts. Part I comprises eligible RCTs between zirconia abutment and titanium abutment, and part II included RCTs of zirconia abutment with sub-mucosal modified, pink-veneered glass ceramic versus non-veneered zirconia abutment. Esthetic, biological, and abutment survival was a primary outcome, and technical complications were included as an additional outcome. Fifteen eligible RCTs (Part I: N = 9 and Part II: N = 6) were evaluated, and a total of 362 abutments in 364 subjects were analysed for outcome variables. A sub-group meta-analysis reported no significant difference for Esthetic outcome. However, the overall mean (p =0.03) was higher for zirconia group in those of thin gingival phenotype. Spectrophotometric evaluation of peri-implant mucosal Esthetic does not show any significant difference. Similarly, pink-veneered versus non-veneered group reported no significant difference for thin (<2 mm) and thick (>2 mm) mucosal attachment. Biological outcome does not show any significant difference for comparable groups in both parts. There is marginally lower abutment survival for internally connected zirconia abutment (ZA: 95.4% TA: 100%). Zirconia abutment exhibited excellent Esthetic compared to titanium abutment in those of thin gingival phenotype. Sub-mucosa veneering of zirconia abutment with pink glass ceramic does not show any favourable Esthetic outcome compared to the non-veneered surface.

Abstract
With the development of ceramic technology, prosthodontic ceramics are becoming a useful option for improving esthetic outcomes in dentistry. In this paper, various ceramic materials were reviewed and evaluated, and their advantages and disadvantages and indications in oral prosthodontics were analyzed objectively. The properties of resin-based ceramics, polycrystalline ceramics, and silicate ceramics were compared and analyzed. Resin-based ceramics may replace other ceramic materials in the CAD/CAM field.

Abstract
For clinical applications, non-cytotoxicity and good bonding property of dental restorative materials are the most essential and important. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential for clinical applications of two novel bioinspired nacre-like ceramic (yttria-stabilized zirconia)-polymer (polymethyl methacrylate) composites in terms of the cytotoxicity and bonding property. The relative growth rates (24 h) of the Lamellar and Brick-and-mortar composites measured by CCK8 were 102.93%±0.04 and 98.91%±0.03, respectively. According to the results of cytotoxicity and proliferation experiments, the two composites were not cytotoxic to human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (HPDLFs) in vitro. Both composites exhibited improved bonding strength as compared to the Control group (Vita In-Ceram YZ). As the polymer content in the composite material increases, its bonding strength also increases, which enhances the application potential of the material in the field of dental restoration. Meanwhile, by controlling the direction of loading force in the shear test, the effect of microstructure on the bonding strength of anisotropic composites was studied. After sandblasted, the bonding strengths of the Lamellar group in the longitudinal and transverse shear directions were 17.56±1.56 MPa and 18.67±1.92 MPa, respectively, while of the Brick-and-mortar group were 16.36±1.30 MPa and 16.99±1.67 MPa, respectively. The results showed that the loading direction had no significant effect on the bonding strength of the composites.

Abstract
The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the clinical and laboratory outcomes of angled screw channel (ASC) restorations and to summarize the influencing factors. An electronic search of the English language literature was performed in four databases and enriched by manual searches. Retrieved studies were screened against the predefined exclusion and inclusion criteria. Eight clinical and seven laboratory studies were eligible for the analysis. The risk of bias for included observational studies was performed using the Newcastle–Ottawa quality assessment scale. Laboratory studies quality assessment method was adapted from previous published systematic reviews. Two clinical studies focused on technical outcomes and the rest reported the biological outcomes of the ASC restorations. Out of the seven laboratory studies, two studies investigated the fracture resistance of ASC restorations, four studies evaluated the reverse torque value of the nonaxially tightened screws, and one study evaluated both variables. The present review revealed that while the performance of ASC restorations is promising in short-term clinical studies, the evidence of their long-term reliability is still lacking. The laboratory studies indicated comparable fracture resistance results of the ASC restorations with the straight screw channel restorations. In addition, factors, such as initial torque value, configuration of the screw driver, screw design, abutment system, and the angulation of screw channel, were shown to influence the screw resistance to loosening.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Zirconia abutments with a titanium base are promising candidates to substitute for titanium abutments based on clinical studies reporting good short-term survival rates. However, information on the long-term performance of zirconia abutments supporting ceramic crowns is scarce. PURPOSE This in vitro comparative and finite element analysis study compared the fatigue life performance of ceramic computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) monolithic restorations and zirconia abutments fabricated with a chairside workflow connected to a titanium interface versus titanium abutments. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-two internal connection implants were divided into 2 groups, one with a zirconia abutment and monolithic ceramic zirconia crown (ZZ) and the other with a titanium abutment and zirconia crown (TiZ). They were subjected to a fatigue test to determine the fatigue limit and fatigue performance of each group as per International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14801. Microstructural analysis of the fracture surfaces was conducted by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Simulations of the in vitro study were also conducted by means of finite element analysis (FEA) to assess the stress distribution over the different parts of the restoration. RESULTS The fatigue limit was 250 N for the TiZ group and 325 N for the ZZ group. In both groups, the screw was the part most susceptible to fatigue and was where the failure initiated. In the zirconia abutment models, the stress on the screw was reduced. CONCLUSIONS Chairside CAD-CAM zirconia abutments with a titanium base supporting zirconia crowns had higher fatigue fracture resistance compared with that of titanium abutments.

Abstract
This issue of the Biomedical Journal honours the laureates of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for their ground-breaking contributions to cancer immunotherapy and unveils the identification of essential intermediates between microtubule-targeting agents and apoptosis. Subsequently, we learn about the hypoglycemic properties of natural phenolic acids, how cone-beam computed tomography assists dental implant surgery and which factors should be taken into account for salvage liver transplantation after recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma. Further readings discuss the negative impact of bismuth shields on computed tomography image quality, the predictive value of warning headaches for aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage and the great long-term performance of zirconia implant abutments.
