Abstract
BACKGROUND Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw bones have been frequently reported. However, its occurrence in torus palatinus is very rare with only 10 cases published in the English-language literature. CASE REPORT We describe an additional case in a 79-year-old woman, who was referred for evaluation of a painful swelling with areas of suppuration on the hard palate. CONCLUSION Conservative treatment was performed and after spontaneous sequestrectomy, total healing was achieved.

Abstract
Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a condition in which bone cells die due to various causes. It is classified as drug-induced jaw osteonecrosis, osteoradionecrosis, traumatic, non-traumatic, and spontaneous osteonecrosis. Antiresorptive or antiangiogenic drugs cause drug-induced osteonecrosis. The combination of medications, microbial contamination, and local trauma induces this condition. Osteoradionecrosis is a severe radiation therapy side effect that can affect people with head and neck cancer. It is described as an exposed bone area that does not heal for longer than three months after the end of radiation treatment with the absence of any indications of an original tumor, recurrence, or metastasis. Trauma (tooth extraction), tumor site, radiation dose that the patient receives, the area of the bone which is irradiated, oral hygiene, and other factors are risk factors for the development of osteonecrosis. Less frequently, osteonecrosis can also be induced by non-traumatic and traumatic causes. Non-traumatic osteonecrosis is brought on by infections, acquired and congenital disorders, as well as the impact of chemicals. Traumatic osteonecrosis is brought on by thermal, mechanical, or chemical damage. The treatment of osteonecrosis can be conservative, which aims to be beneficial for the patient's quality of life, and surgical, which involves debridement of the necrotic bone.

Abstract
Studies of the potential role of bisphosphonates in dentistry date back to physical chemical research in the 1960s, and the genesis of the discovery of bisphosphonate pharmacology in part can be linked to some of this work. Since that time, parallel research on the effects of bisphosphonates on bone metabolism continued, while efforts in the dental field included studies of bisphosphonate effects on dental calculus, caries, and alveolar bone loss. While some utility of this drug class in the dental field was identified, leading to their experimental use in various dentrifice formulations and in some dental applications clinically, adverse effects of bisphosphonates in the jaws have also received attention. Most recently, certain bisphosphonates, particularly those with strong bone targeting properties, but limited biochemical effects (low potency bisphosphonates), are being studied as a local remedy for the concerns of adverse effects associated with other more potent members of this drug class. Additionally, low potency bisphosphonate analogs are under study as vectors to target active drugs to the mineral surfaces of the jawbones. These latter efforts have been devised for the prevention and treatment of oral problems, such as infections associated with oral surgery and implants. Advances in the utility and mechanistic understanding of the bisphosphonate class may enable additional oral therapeutic options for the management of multiple aspects of dental health.
