Abstract
The piperazine scaffold is a privileged structure frequently found in biologically active compounds. Piperazine nucleus is found in many marketed drugs in the realm of antidepressants (amoxapine), antipsychotics (bifeprunox), antihistamines (cyclizine and oxatomide), antifungals (itraconazole), antibiotics (ciprofloxacin), etc. This is one of the reasons why piperazine based compounds are gaining prominence in today's research. In addition to the ring carbons, substitution in the nitrogen atom of piperazine not only creates potential drug molecules but also makes it unique with versatile binding possibilities with metal ions. Piperazine ring-based compounds find their application in biological systems with antihistamine, anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. They have also been successfully used in the field of catalysis and metal organic frameworks (MOFs). The present review focuses on the synthesis and application of different piperazine derivatives and their metal complexes having diverse applications.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis and screening of 4'-((5-benzylidene-2,4-dioxothiazolidin-3-yl)methyl)biphenyl-2-carbonitrile analogs 11(a-j) as bacterial peptide deformylase (PDF) enzyme inhibitors. The compounds 11b (IC50 value = 139.28 μm), 11g (IC50 value = 136.18 μm), and 11h (IC50 value = 131.65 μm) had shown good PDF inhibition activity. The compounds 11b (MIC range = 103.36-167.26 μg/mL), 11g (MIC range = 93.75-145.67 μg/mL), and 11h (MIC range = 63.61-126.63 μg/mL) had also shown potent antibacterial activity when compared with standard ampicillin (MIC range = 100.00-250.00 μg/mL). Thus, the active derivatives were not only PDF inhibitors but also efficient antibacterial agents. To gain more insight on the binding mode of the compounds with PDF enzyme, the synthesized compounds 11(a-j) were docked against PDF enzyme of Escherichia coli and compounds exhibited good binding properties. The results suggest that this class of compounds has potential for development and use in future as antibacterial drugs.

Abstract
The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 1,7,8,9-tetrachloro-10,10-dimethoxy-4-[3-(4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl)propyl]-4-azatricyclo[5.2.1.0(2,6)]dec-8-ene-3,5-dione (TDPPAD) have been investigated experimentally and theoretically using Gaussian09 software package. Gauge-including atomic orbital (1)H NMR chemical shifts calculations were carried out and compared with experimental data. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. Molecular Electrostatic Potential was performed by the DFT method and the infrared and Raman intensities have also been reported. Mulliken's net charges have been calculated and compared with the atomic natural charges. Fist hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in non-liner optics. The calculated geometrical parameters (SDD) are in agreement with that of similar derivatives.

Abstract
Ethyl 4-amino-2-fluorophenylpiperazin-1-carboxylates containing a 1,3-oxazol(idin)e, 5-thioxo-1,2,4-triazole, 1,3,4-thiadiazole, 5-thioxo-1,3,4-oxadiazole, or 1,3-thiazole nucleus were obtained starting from ethyl piperazine-1-carboxylate (1) by several steps. The treatment of amine, 3 or hydrazide, 9 with several aromatic aldehydes generated the corresponding arylmethyleneamino (3a–f) or arylidenehydrazino (12a–c) compounds. The Mannich reaction between the 1,2,4-triazole or 1,3,4-oxadiazole compounds and 7-aca produced cephalosporanic acid derivatives. Penicillanic acid derivatives were obtained when 6-apa was used in the Mannich reactions. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial, antilipase, and antiurease activities. Some of them were found to possess good-moderate antimicrobial activity against the test microorganisms. Two compounds exhibited antiurease activity, and four of them displayed antilipase activity.

Abstract
Described is a new method for the efficient in situ production of singlet oxygen in a simple continuous flow photochemical reactor. The extremely large interfacial area generated by running the biphasic mixture in a narrow channel at a high flow rate ensures high throughput as well as fast and efficient oxidation of various alkenes, 1,3-dienes, and thioethers on a preparative scale.

Abstract
The derivatives of 4-(hetero)aryl-4-oxobut-2-enoic acid are useful as building blocks in the synthesis of biologically active compounds. An efficient general protocol for the synthesis of these building blocks was developed. This method combines microwave assistance and ytterbium triflate catalyst and allows the fast preparation of the target acids starting from different (hetero)aromatic ketones and glyoxylic acid monohydrate giving pure products in 52-75% isolated yields.

Abstract
Due to the emergence of resistance to known antibiotics to various organisms, for example, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Enterococci, and Pseudomonas there is a renewed interest in the discovery of new antibacterials. Oxazolidinones, totally synthetic class of novel antibacterials, possess activity against drug-resistant Gram-positive pathogens, especially MRSA. Linezolid, the first approved drug from this class, has shown a great promise in saving lives of many patients by acting against drug-resistant Gram-positive organisms. However, its use is somewhat limited because of its myelotoxicity when used long term (>21 days). Various research groups are active in this area either to improve myelotoxicity profile of linezolid or to expand the spectrum of activity of linezolid. In spite of active research in this area, the discovery of an oxazolidinone possessing improved myelotoxicity compared to linezolid, linezolid-like efficacy, and PK remains challenging.

Abstract
A series of novel arylcarbonyl- and arylsulfonyl-piperazinyl 5-triazolylmethyl oxazolidinones were synthesized and tested against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial clinical isolates. The arylcarbonyl oxazolidinone derivatives showed strong in vitro antibacterial activity against susceptible and resistant Gram-positive pathogenic bacteria and were more active than the arylsufonyl derivatives. Substitution of varied electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups on the phenyl ring in the arylcarbonyl series did not alter antibacterial activity significantly. However, in the arylsufonyl series, methyl substitution on the phenyl ring resulted in the loss of antibacterial activity. Antibacterial activity could not be directly correlated with the calculated partition coefficient (ClogP) values in this series of compounds.
