Abstract
The synthesized water-soluble ternary complexes [Co(met)(gly)(Cl)2] (1), [Co(met)(hist)(Cl)2] (2), and [Co(met)(pro)(Cl)2] (3), (met = metformin, gly = glycine, hist = histidine, and pro = proline) were evaluated using spectro-analytical techniques, and the stereochemistry of the complexes was determined to be octahedral. UV-Vis absorption, competitive DNA-binding experiments using ethidium bromide (EB) by fluorescence, fluorescence emission studies, viscosity studies, and gel electrophoresis techniques were all employed to explore the binding characteristics of the cobalt (II) complexes with CT-DNA and groove-binding mechanism established. The salt-dependent association of the complexes to CT-DNA was investigated using UV-Vis spectrophotometric analysis. The association of the cobalt (II) complexes with BSA and HSA was explored by utilizing UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy approaches. The findings show that the complexes exhibit adequate capacity to quench BSA and HSA fluorescence and that the binding response is mostly a static quenching mechanism. The cytotoxicity of the complexes has also been appraised with the human breast adenocarcinoma cell lines (MCF-7) and (MDA-MB-231) by utilizing the MTT assay. For each cell line, the IC50 values were computed. In both cell lines, all the complexes were active.

Abstract
DNA groove binders have been poorly studied as compared to the intercalators. A novel Ru(II) complex of [Ru(aeip)2(Haip)](PF6)2 {Haip = 2-(9-anthryl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline and aeip = 2-(anthracen-9-yl)-1-ethyl-imidazo[4,5-f][1, 10]phenanthroline} is synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The complex is evidenced to be a calf-thymus DNA groove binder with a large intrinsic binding constant of 106 M-1 order of magnitude as supported by UV-visible absorption spectral titrations, salt effects, DNA competitive binding with ethidium bromide, DNA melting experiment, DNA viscosity measurements and density functional theory calculations. The acid-base properties of the complex studied by UV-Vis spectrophotometric titrations are reported as well.

Abstract
A novel Ru(II) complex of [Ru(bpy)2(Hbcpip)](ClO4)2 {where bpy=2,2-bipyridine, Hbcpip=2-(4-(9H-3,9'-bicarbazol-9-yl)phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline} is synthesized and characterized. Calf-thymus DNA-binding properties of the complex were studied by UV-vis absorption and luminescence titrations, steady-state emission quenching by [Fe(CN)6](4-), DNA competitive binding with ethidium bromide, thermal denaturation and DNA viscosity measurements. The results indicate that the complex partially intercalated into the DNA with a binding constant of (5.5±1.4)×10(5) M(-1) in buffered 50 mM NaCl. The acid-base properties of the complex were also studied by UV-visible and luminescence spectrophotometric pH titrations, and ground- and excited-state acidity ionization constant values were derived.

Abstract
The interaction of [Ru(bpy)(2)(fip)](PF(6))(2) {bpy=2,2'-bipyridine, fip=2-ferrocenyl-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]-phenanthroline} with calf thymus DNA and yeast tRNA was investigated comparatively by UV-visible absorption and luminescence spectrophotometric titrations, steady-state emission quenching by [Fe(CN)(6)](4-), ethidium bromide competition experiment, DNA thermal denaturation, viscosity measurements and salt effect studies. The results suggest that the complex binds to the DNA more strongly than to the RNA. The density functional theory calculations were also carried out in order to better understand the nucleic acid binding properties. Agarose gel electrophoresis showed that the complex exhibited enhanced DNA-photocleavage capacity on pUC 18 plasmid DNA under irradiation at 360 nm as compared with a ferrocenyl-free analogous complex.

Abstract
Novel metal complexes of the second-generation quinolone antibacterial agent enrofloxacin with copper(II) and neutral bidentate ligands have been prepared and characterized with elemental analysis reflectance, IR and mass spectroscopy. Complexes have been screened for their in-vitro antibacterial activity against two Gram(+ve) Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and three Gram((-ve)) Serratia marcescens, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa organisms using the double dilution technique. The binding of this complex with CT-DNA has been investigated by absorption titration, salt effect and viscosity measurements. Binding constant is ranging from 1.3×10(4)-3.7×10(4). The cleavage ability of complexes has been assessed by gel electrophoresis using pUC19 DNA. The catalytic activity of the copper(II) complexes towards the superoxide anion (O2.-) dismutation was assayed by their ability to inhibit the reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT).

Abstract
Inspired by the enormous importance attributed to the structure and function of human telomeric DNA, we focus our attention on the interaction of [Ru(bpy)(2)(dppz)](2+) with the guanine-rich single-strand oligomer 5'-AGGGTTAGGGTTAGGGTTAGGG-3' (22AG) and the complementary cytosine-rich strand (22CT). In Na(+) buffer, 22AG may adopt an antiparallel basket quadruplex, whereas, it favours a mixed parallel/antiparallel structure in K(+) buffer. 22CT may self-associate at acidic pH into an i-motif. In this paper, the interaction between [Ru(bpy)(2)(dppz)](2+) and each unusual DNA was evaluated. It was interesting that [Ru(bpy)(2)(dppz)](2+) could promote the human telomeric repeat 22AG to fold into intramolecular antiparallel G-quadruplex without any other cations. What's more, [Ru(bpy)(2)(dppz)](2+) was found to have a strong preference for binding to G-quadruplexes that were induced through either Na(+) or K(+), while weak binding to i-motif was observed. The results also indicated that [Ru(bpy)(2)(dppz)](2+) could serve as a prominent molecular "light switch" for both G-quadruplexes, revealing a potential application of the title complex in luminescent signaling of G-quadruplex DNA.

Abstract
A novel Ru(II) complex, [Ru(bpy)(2)(btppz)]Cl(2), where bpy=2,2'-bipyridine and btppz=benzo[h]tripyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c:2'',3''-j]phenazine, has been synthesized and characterized. The pH effects on UV-visible (UV-vis) absorption and emission spectra of the complex have been studied and ground- and excited-state ionization constants of the complex have been derived. The calf thymus DNA (ct-DNA) binding properties of the complex were investigated with UV-vis absorption and luminescence spectrophotometric titrations, steady-state emission quenching by [Fe(CN)(6)](4-), DNA competitive binding with ethidium bromide, DNA melting experiments, reverse salt titrations and viscosity measurements. The complex was demonstrated to act as dual molecular switches: pH-induced "on-off" emission switch with an on-off intensity ratio of approximately 54 which is favorably compared with those reported for structurally analogous Ru(II) complexes, and a DNA molecular light switch with a luminescence enhancement factor of 22 as it intercalatively bound to the DNA.
