Abstract
OBJECTIVE This article aimed to ascertain the application of problem-based learning (PBL) combined with micro-video teaching in burn surgery teaching and its impact on satisfaction with teaching. METHODS Fifty clinical medical students who were interns at our hospital from November 2022 to October 2023 were selected as the study subjects and randomly separated into the control group (n = 25) and the observation group (n = 25). The control group adopted traditional teaching methods. The observation group employed PBL combined with micro-video teaching mode. The scores of theory tests and skill tests, the critical thinking capability, the students' evaluation of teaching methods, the scores of teachers for teaching methods, and the scores of interns for teaching satisfaction were compared. RESULTS The observation group possessed higher scores on theory tests and skill tests, greater critical thinking ability after teaching, higher evaluation of teaching methods and more satisfaction with their internships versus the control group (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The application of PBL combined with micro-video teaching in the teaching of burn surgery can improve students' thinking ability and their satisfaction with teaching.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Web-based short-form videos are increasingly popular for disseminating fire and burn prevention information, but their content quality is unknown. OBJECTIVE We aimed to systematically assess the characteristics, content quality, and public impact of web-based short-form videos offering primary and secondary (first aid) prevention recommendations for fires and burns in China between 2018 and 2021. METHODS We retrieved short-form videos offering both primary and secondary (first aid) information to prevent fire and burn injuries published on the 3 most popular web-based short-form video platforms in China: TikTok, Kwai, and Bilibili. To assess video content quality, we calculated the proportion of short-form videos that included information on each of the 15 recommendations for burn prevention education from the World Health Organization (WHO; P1) and that correctly disseminated each recommendation (P2). High P1 and P2 indicated better content quality. To assess their public impact, we calculated the median (IQR) of 3 indicators: the number of comments, likes, and saves as a favorite by viewers. Chi-square test, trend chi-square test, and Kruskal-Wallis H test examined differences in indicators across the 3 platforms, years, content, and time duration of videos and between videos disseminating correct versus incorrect information. RESULTS Overall, 1459 eligible short-form videos were included. The number of short-form videos increased by 16 times between 2018 and 2021. Of them, 93.97% (n=1371) were about secondary prevention (first aid) and 86.02% (n=1255) lasted <2 minutes. The proportion of short-form videos including each of the 15 WHO recommendations ranged from 0% to 77.86% (n=1136). Recommendations 8, 13, and 11 had the highest proportions (n=1136, 77.86%; n=827, 56.68%; and n=801, 54.9%, respectively), whereas recommendations 3 and 5 were never mentioned. Among the short-form videos that included the WHO recommendations, recommendations 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12 were always disseminated correctly, but the other 9 recommendations were correctly disseminated in 59.11% (120/203) to 98.68% (1121/1136) of videos. The proportion of short-form videos including and correctly disseminating the WHO recommendations varied across platforms and years. The public impact of short videos varied greatly across videos, with a median (IQR) of 5 (0-34) comments, 62 (7-841) likes, and 4 (0-27) saves as a favorite. Short-form videos disseminating correct recommendations had larger public impact than those disseminating either partially correct or incorrect knowledge (median 5 vs 4 comments, 68 vs 51 likes, and 5 vs 3 saves as a favorite, respectively; all P<.05). CONCLUSIONS Despite the rapid increase in the number of web-based short-form videos about fire and burn prevention available in China, their content quality and public impact were generally low. Systematic efforts are recommended to improve the content quality and public impact of short-form videos on injury prevention topics such as fire and burn prevention.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Trauma is a leading cause of mortality in children. Burns affect children disproportionally. Although burn incidence and mortality are decreasing, differences in the risk depend on socioeconomic status. The present study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic patterns of pediatric patients (0-17 years) managed at the two burn centers in Sweden, Uppsala, and Linköping, between 2010 and 2020. METHOD This retrospective register-based study used hospital records from the two burn centers combined with information from Statistics Sweden plus data regarding number of asylum seekers from the Swedish Migrations Agency. Choropleth maps representing the patients' geographical distribution were created. Information about income levels per geographic area was added. A Wilcoxon signed-rank test was performed to investigate differences in median income levels between the areas where the patients lived, related to Sweden's median income. RESULTS The study included 2455 patients. Most of the children aged below 5 years (76%) and were boys (60%). The mean percentage of total skin area was 4.2%. There was no significant increment or decrease in the incidence of pediatric burns during the study. Most patients with recorded zip codes lived in areas with an income level below the national median (n = 1974, 83%). Children with asylum status were over-represented compared with residents and/or Swedish citizens. CONCLUSIONS In Sweden, most pediatric burns occur in families that live in areas with low-income levels. Pediatric burns affect children with asylum status disproportionally compared with those who are residents in and/or citizens of Sweden. Prevention strategies should be designed and implemented to alleviate this health inequity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the impact of interprofessional in situ simulations on the technical and non-technical skills of pediatric burn teams in acute burn management. METHODS This quasi-experimental study consisted of a one-group pre- and post-test design conducted in a pediatric burn center in Turkey. The sample consisted of nine interprofessional burn team members. Data collection tools consisted of the following: descriptive data form, burn technical skills checklists, simulation evaluation form, and Anesthesiologists' non-technical skills in Denmark rating form. RESULTS We found no statistically significant difference between the pre- and post-test scores for technical (p = 0.285) and non-technical skill (p = 0.180) scores. Burn team members evaluated the highest score in almost all criteria for in situ simulations. CONCLUSION The interprofessional in situ simulations did not improve the burn teams' acute burn management; however, according to a self-report, burn team members were satisfied with the interprofessional in situ simulation experiences and achieved their own gains.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE to evaluate the impact of an educational intervention, on nurses' self-perception, about knowledge and skills for initial care for burn victims. METHODS a quasi-experimental study of the type before and after, with 18 nurses who assist burn victims. The intervention was carried out for 11 days in face-to-face meetings and online activities, and comprised active case-based learning strategies, simulation training, concept maps and digital portfolio. A structured instrument was used to collect sociodemographic data, and another one related to the knowledge and essential skills to the initial care for burn victims. RESULTS The average scores found before the intervention ranged from 2.78 to 3.33 and, after the intervention, they ranged from 3.89 to 4.72. Relevant statistical differences (p <0.005) were found in all questions addressed. CONCLUSION this educational intervention, based on innovative teaching methods, showed a positive impact on nurses' knowledge and skills on initial care for people with burns.

Abstract
Occupational burns are among the important causes of work-related injuries. We aimed to investigate the epidemiology and reasons of occupational burns and thereby to emphasize preventive measures. Between January 2017 and December 2018, the data of major occupational burn injury patients admitted to our burn center were evaluated in this cross-sectional retrospective study. During the study period 342 patients older than 16 years were admitted to the burn center. Among them 80 patients with occupational burns (23.4%) were identified. The mean age of the patients was 34.73 ± 12.3 years. Seventy-eight patients (97.5%) were male. Electrical burns and flame burns were the two leading type of occupational burns. The most common occupation of our patients was construction work. Dangerous behavior, carelessness, lack of protective equipment, and failure to follow instructions were causes of injury. Only 14 patients (17.5%) experienced unavoidable accident. Thirty-seven patients (46.3%) worked on temporary basis. Occupational experience was under 5 years in majority of the cases (62.5%). For the occupational burns the percentage of burned TBSA was 17.08 ± 14.5 (1-60) and the length of hospital stay was 23.94 ± 21.9 days (2-106). There were no significant differences between occupational and nonoccupational burn injuries considering TBSA, total length of hospital stay, and complications (P > .05). Occupational burn injuries are common in less experienced and younger workers. Therefore, recognition of the problem and maintaining awareness is important. In order to prevent occupational accidents and burns, occupational health and safety rules must be obeyed.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the perception of nurses regarding an educational intervention with innovative pedagogical methods on acute management of burns. Method: a qualitative and exploratory study based on Paulo Freire's sociocultural pedagogical approach. The educational intervention was carried out with 18 nurses who worked in the areas of urgency and emergency. The intervention was centered on active teaching-learning methodologies, in which the main teaching methods were case-based learning, conceptual maps, simulation training, and digital portfolio. Data was collected in November 2017 and October 2018, in the setting of a state public university, by means of a sociodemographic questionnaire, records produced from focus groups, field diaries and portfolios, which were analyzed based on data triangulation, using Bardin's content analysis technique. Results: four categories were identified: collaborative construction of knowledge based on autonomy and dialog between the students; learning with dynamism and joy; from problematizing reality to critical thinking; and education that leads to professional empowerment and confidence. Conclusion: the nurses perceived the educational intervention as positive, since the innovative and participatory teaching methods adopted contributed to the development of competences and skills, ensuring more critical thinking, autonomy and empowerment for these professionals. The study represents an advance in the scope of Nursing education and in the orientation of continuing education actions.

Abstract
Burns are devastating injuries which represent a significant global health burden. In the UK alone, it is estimated that 175 000 people suffer from burns injuries requiring hospital attention every year. The global treatment of burns can be improved through a more systematic team-based approach, which can be achieved through simulation training. Simulation has an increasingly important role in medical education, not only allowing practitioners to apply their knowledge in a controlled and safe environment, but also allowing them to gain technical and non-technical skills. This article explores the role of simulation as an important and effective tool for burns education worldwide.
