Abstract
Cytochrome P450 2A13 is an omitted brother of CYP2A6 that has an important role in the drug metabolism of liver. Due to extrahepatic expression, it has gained less attention than CYP2A6, despite the fact that it plays a significant role in toxicant-induced pulmonary lesions and, therefore, lung cancer. The purpose of this mini-review is to summarize the basic knowledge about this enzyme in relation to the substrates, inhibitors, genetic polymorphisms, and transcriptional regulation that are known so far (September 2021).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, lung cancer has become the most common cause of cancer-related death, several studies indicate that the cytochrome P450 2A13 (CYP2A13) polymorphisms may be correlated with lung cancer susceptibility, but the results have been inconsistent and inconclusive. Therefore, the aim of this meta-analysis is to provide a precise conclusion on the potential association between CYP2A13 polymorphisms and the risk of lung cancer based on case-control studies. METHODS The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases will be searched for case-control studies published up to September 2020. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were used to determine the effects of the CYP2A13 polymorphism on lung cancer risk, respectively. RESULTS The results of this meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. CONCLUSION This meta-analysis will summarize the association between CYP2A13 polymorphisms and the risk of lung cancer. INPLASY REGISTRATION NUMBER INPLASY202090102.

Abstract
Background Leonurine is an active component of the traditional Chinese medicine Leonurus japonicus. This study aimed to investigate the effects of overexpressed CYP450s on the metabolic activity of leonurine. Material/Methods BEAS-2B cells stably expressing CYP1A1, 1A2, 2A13, 2B6, and 3A4 were constructed. CYP450s expression was identified using reverse-transcription PCR and Western blot assay. CCK-8 assay was used to evaluate the effect of leonurine on cell activity. Leonurine was incubated in vitro with CYP1A1, 1A2, 2A13, 2B6, and 3A4 metabolic enzymes to evaluate the clearance rate of CYP450 enzymes for leonurine. UPLC-MS was used to detect changes of drug concentration and discover the main metabolic enzymes affecting leonurine. Results BEAS-2B cells stably expressing CYP1A1, 1A2, 2A13, 2B6, and 3A4 were successfully constructed. According to primary mass spectra and secondary mass spectra of leonurine, the main metabolic enzymes were 312.1550 [H+] and 181.0484. Compared to the control group, residue of leonurine in CYP2A13 group was significantly reduced (F=5.307, p=0.024). Compared to the 0-min group, the clearance rate of leonurine in the CYP2A13-treated group was significantly decreased at 120 min after treatment (F=7.273, p=0.007). CCK-8 results also showed that activity of BEAS-2B cells that overexpress CYP2A13 gradually decreased with increased concentration of leonurine. Although CYP2A13 demonstrated good metabolic activity for leonurine, we found that CYP1A1, 1A2, 2B6, and 3A4 had no metabolic effects on leonurine. Conclusions Leonurine can be effectively activated through CYP2A13 enzyme metabolism, and further inhibits activity of human lung epithelial cells (BEAS-2B). Therefore, CYP2A13 is a main metabolic enzyme for leonurine in BEAS-2B cells.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between CYP2A13 polymorphisms and lung cancer susceptibility using the HapMap database. Methods A case‐control analysis of 532 subjects with lung cancer and 614 controls with no personal history of the disease was performed. The tag SNPs rs1645690 and rs8192789 for CYP2A13 were selected, and the genetic polymorphisms were confirmed experimentally through real‐time PCR, cloning, and sequencing assay. Results SNP frequency in this study was consistent with the HapMap Project database of Han‐Chinese and lung cancer risk was associated with CYP2A13 polymorphisms in non‐smokers. CYP2A13 shares a 93.5% identity with CYP2A6 in the amino acid sequence and the homologous sequences may interfere with the study of SNPs of CYP2A13. Conclusions CYP2A13 may be a potential key metabolic enzyme gene in the carcinogenesis of lung cancer in non‐smokers. The common polymorphisms of CYP2A13 may be candidate biomarkers for lung cancer susceptibility in Han‐Chinese.

Abstract
PURPOSE While studies have documented gender differences by histologic type among lung cancer patients, the effect of these differences on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of post-lobectomy lungcancer patients and related factors remain uncertain. This study examines gender-specific HRQoL and related factors in post-lobectomy lung-cancer patients. METHODS A cross-sectional study design was applied. A convenience sample of 231 post-lobectomy lungcancer patients was recruited from the thoracic surgery outpatient departments of two teaching hospitals in Taipei, Taiwan from March to December 2012. Patients performed a spirometry test and completed instruments that included a Beck Depression Inventory-II, an Interpersonal Support Evaluation List, and the symptom and function scales of the Quality of Life Questionnaire. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviations, frequency, and percentage values. Independent-sample Student's t-tests and multivariate analyses were used for comparative purposes. RESULTS This study confirmed a significant gender effect on HRQoL and HRQoL-related factors such as marital status, religious affiliation, smoking status, histologic type, symptoms, pulmonary function, depression, and family support. Moreover, multivariate analysis found gender to be a significant determinant of the HRQoL aspects of physical functioning, emotional functioning, and cognitive functioning. Finally, results indicated that factors other than gender were also significant determinants of HRQoL. CONCLUSION Gender impacts the HRQoL and related factors of postoperative lung-cancer patients. Therefore, gender should be considered in assessing and addressing the individual care needs of these patients in order to attain optimal treatment outcomes.
