Abstract
BACKGROUND The nano-sized particles enhance the exposed surface area of the active part of the catalyst, thereby increasing the contact between precursors and catalyst considerably. In this study, nano-SiO2/1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-en was synthesized, characterized and used as a heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller plot, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy and Thermo Gravimetric Analysis were used to discern nano-SiO2/1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-en. RESULTS Tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans were synthesized by using nano-SiO2/1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-en via one-pot three-component condensation of malononitrile, aldehydes and dimedone in H2O/EtOH at 60 °C. The results indicate that tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans were synthesized in good to high yields and short reaction times. CONCLUSIONS The fundamental privileges of this method are short reaction time, plain procedure, recyclability of catalyst and high yields of products.

Abstract
Kojic acid, one of the most widespread 3-hydroxypyran-4-one derivatives, displays
a wide range of biological activities and found application in food as well as cosmetics
industry. The synthesis of kojic acid derivatives has provoked great interest as an easily
available and biologically active precursor among organic and medicinal researchers. Multicomponent
reactions, involving three or more reactants in one-pot thereby resulting in a
structure with functional diversity are efficient methods for the promotion of green chemistry
in the context of modern drug discovery. They offer several advantages over conventional
stepwise protocols like simplicity, efficiency, selectivity, convergence and atom economy.
This review aims to highlight the versatility of kojic acid as an important synthon in multicomponent
reactions for the construction of various biologically relevant compounds such as pyrano[3,2‐
b]chromenediones, pyrano[3,2-b]pyrans, pyrano[2′,3′:5,6]pyrano[2,3‑b]pyridines, spiro[indoline-3,4’-pyrano[3,
2-b]pyrans, 2-substituted kojic acid conjugates, etc.

Abstract
The benzopyran ring of the title compound, C16H11ClN2O2, is planar [maximum deviation = 0.079 (2) Å] and is almost perpendicular to the chlorophenyl ring [dihedral angle = 86.85 (6)°]. In the crystal, N—H...O, O—H...N, C—H...O and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds form inter- and intramolecular interactions. The DFT/B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) method was used to determine the HOMO–LUMO energy levels. The molecular electrostatic potential surfaces were investigated by Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were used to analyse the intermolecular interactions in the molecule.

Abstract
In the title compounds, C16H9Cl2N2O2·C4H8O2 and C16H9Cl2N2O2, the bicyclic 4H-chromene cores are nearly planar with maximum deviations of 0.081 (2) and 0.087 (2) Å. In both structures, the chromene derivative mol-ecules are linked into centrosymmetric dimers by pairs of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming R2 2 (16) motifs. These dimers are further linked in the 3,4-di-chloro-phenyl derivative by N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds into double layers parallel to (100) and in the 2,6-di-chloro-phenyl derivative by O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds into ribbons along the [10] direction. In the 3,4-di-chloro-phenyl derivative, the 1,4-dioxane solvent mol-ecules are connected to the chromene mol-ecules via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Abstract
A novel heterogeneous silica nanosphere-supported ferrocene-containing ionic liquid catalyst (SiO2@Imid-Cl@Fc) was designed and synthesised and was systematically characterised by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The catalytic activity of the SiO2@Imid-Cl@Fc catalyst was tested in a one-pot, three-component reaction of malononitrile and kojic acid with 15 aromatic aldehydes at room temperature under ultrasound irradiation. The products were pyrano[3,2-b]pyran derivatives, four of which are new. The catalyst exhibited good catalytic performance over short reaction times (15–20 min) and could be recycled at least five times without significant loss of activity.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of novel thiopurine pyranonucleosides. Direct coupling of silylated 6-mercaptopurine and 6-thioguanine with the appropriate pyranoses 1a-e via Vorbrüggen nucleosidation, gave the N-9 linked mercaptopurine 2a-e and thioguanine 4a-e nucleosides, while their N-7 substituted congeners 10a-e and 7a-e, were obtained through condensation of the same acetates with 6-chloro and 2-amino-6-chloropurines, followed by subsequent thionation. Nucleosides 3a-e, 5a-e, 8a-e, and 11a-e were evaluated for their cytostatic activity in three different tumor cell proliferative assays.

Abstract
The carbohydrazide 1 was used as the precursor for the synthesis of a number of new aromatic C-nucleosides containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole 7, [1,3,4]oxadiazolo[2,3-a]isoindole 10b and pyrazole units 18. On the other hand, the thiosemicarbazone 20 was used as the key intermediate for synthesis of 1,3,4-oxadiazole and 1,2,4-triazole-3-thione derivatives 21 and 23. The antioxidant activities of the prepared compounds were evaluated. The carbohydrazide 1 in particular was found to have potent antioxidant and antitumor activity.
