Abstract
Lignin, the second largest component of biomass, is considered as an important alternative source of fossil reserves for the production of fuels and chemicals. Here, we developed a novel method to oxidatively degrade organosolv lignin into value-added four-carbon esters, particularly diethyl maleate (DEM), with the cooperative catalyst consisting of 1-(3-sulfobutyl) triethylammonium hydrogen sulfate ([BSTEA]HSO4) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium ferric chloride ([BMIM]Fe2Cl7). Under optimized conditions (1.00 MPa initial O2 pressure, 160 °C, 5 h), the lignin aromatic ring was effectively cleaved by oxidation to form DEM with a yield of 15.85% and a selectivity of 44.25% in the presence of the synergistic catalyst of [BMIM]Fe2Cl7-[BSMIM]HSO4 (1/3, mol/mol). The structure and composition analysis of lignin residues and liquid products confirmed that the aromatic units in lignin were effectively and selectively oxidized. Furthermore, the catalytic oxidation of lignin model compounds was explored for obtaining a possible reaction pathway of oxidative cleavage of lignin aromatic units to DEM. This study provides a promising alternative method for the production of traditional petroleum-based chemicals.

Abstract
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are modified versions of ionic liquids (ILs) and are formed by the fusion of polar components (liquids or solids) via hydrogen bonding interactions. DESs are prepared by the simple mixing of two or three cheap constituents (that are capable of self-association) with gentle heating, which leads to a drastic decrease in their melting points. The resultant clear homogeneous mixture consists of cations, anions, as well as neutral molecules; this will contribute both ionic and molecular solvent properties to the DESs. DESs have emerged as alternatives to conventional organic solvents and ILs, which meet different criteria such as availability, low cost, low toxicity, biodegradability, recyclability, ease of preparation method, tunable, and designer physiochemical properties. Many of them have attracted considerable attention and haave been applied in distinct fields of chemistry. To summarize the full-scale development of DESs, this review discusses the history, classifications, various methods of preparation, properties, and some major applications in catalysis in the last three years. This review is expected to be helpful for the further development of DESs based on a summary of the fundamental research in the field.

Abstract
Cellulose conversion into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is difficult because of the strong hydrogen bonding existed in cellulose chains. Brønsted/Lewis (B/L) biacidic functionalized ionic liquids (ILs) have great advantages in acid-catalyzed tandem reactions, but the catalytic effect of ILs differs considerably depending on B/L acid ratios. Therefore, this work designed a series of reactions with different proportions of biacidic ILs for the preparation of 5-HMF from cellulose. The tandem reaction is often performed in the presence of a solvent, and the activity of the catalyst is also affected by the solvent. Therefore, in this work, the solvation model density(SMD) model was introduced into the quantum chemical calculation method for molecular design to predict the catalytic effect and explore the catalytic mechanism. The calculation results and experiments jointly showed that [(HSO3-P)2im]Cl·ZnCl2 had the highest efficiency, with a 5-HMF yield of 65.66%. This study facilitates the directional optimization design of the catalyst.

Abstract
Due to special properties of ILs (Ionic Liquids) like their wide liquid range, good solvating ability, negligible vapour pressure, non-inflammability, environment friendly medium, high thermal stability, easy recycling and rate promoters etc. they are used in organic synthesis. The investigation for the replacement of organic solvents in organic synthesis is a growing area of interest due to increasing environmental issues. Therefore, ionic liquids have attracted the attention of chemists and act as a catalyst and reaction medium in organic reaction with high activity. There is no doubt that ionic liquids have become a major subject of study for modern chemistry. In comparison to traditional processes the use of ionic liquids resulted in improved, complimentary or alternative selectivities in organic synthesis. The present manuscript reported the synthesis of multiple nitrogen containing five-membered heterocyclic compounds using ionic liquids. This review covered interesting discoveries in the past few years.

Catalytic preparation of levulinic acid from cellobiose via Brønsted-Lewis acidic ionic liquids functional catalysts. Sci Rep 2019; 9:1810. Abstract
Brønsted-Lewis acidic ionic liquids (ILs) were applied to catalyze cellobiose to prepare levulinic acid (LA) in one pot under hydrothermal conditions. Under the optimum conditions, the highest LA yield of 67.51% was obtained when low [HO3S-(CH2)3-mim]Cl-FeCl3 (molar fraction of FeCl3 x = 0.60) was used. This indicated the Brønsted-Lewis acidic ILs played an active role in the conversion of cellobiose to LA. The catalytic mechanism of ILs had been established, disclosing that the Brønsted-Lewis acidic ILs had the catalytic synergistic effect originating from its double acid sites. During the reaction process, the Lewis acid sites improved the isomerization of glucose to fructose, then the Brønsted and Lewis acid sites simultaneously enhanced the dehydration of fructose to produce hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), which was propitious to the synthesize LA with high yield. In addition, LA could be easily extracted by methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), and the ILs could retain its basic activity after 5 cycles. The solid residues were characterized using SEM, FT-IR and TG-DTG spectroscopy. It was the conclusion that a large amount of humins were produced during the cellobiose conversion process. In this reaction, the ILs not only overcomes the problems of the conventional catalyst, but also completes the reaction-separation integration and the recycling of the catalyst. This paper provided an important theoretical basis for the application of ILs in the field of biomass.

Abstract
Beckmann rearrangement of ketoxime catalyzed by acidic ionic liquid-N-methyl-imidazolium hydrosulfate was studied. Rearrangement of benzophenone oxime gave the desirable product with 45% yield at 90 °C. When co-catalyst P2O5 was added, the yield could be improved to 91%. The catalyst could be reused three cycles with the same efficiency. Finally, reactions of other ketoximes were also investigated.

Abstract
A novel Brönsted–Lewis acidic heteropoly organic–inorganic salt has been prepared via the replacement of protons in neat phosphotungstic acid with both organic and metal cations. This hybrid catalyst, Sm0.33[TEAPS]2PW12O40, exhibited satisfactory performance in the dimerization of rosin to prepare polymerized rosin Under optimum conditions (15.0 g rosin and 5.0 g Sm0.33[TEAPS]2PW12O40 catalyst in 18.0 mL toluene at 90 °C for 10 h), a polymerized rosin product with a softening point of 120.1 °C was obtained. In addition, the Sm0.33[TEAPS]2PW12O40 catalyst maintains excellent catalytic performance over five recycles.
