Abstract
Phosphonated polyethylenimine grafted on iron oxide nanoparticles was used as a magnetic support for loading palladium. This cheap and accessible heterogeneous catalyst demonstrated good efficiency in Suzuki-Miyaura, Mizoroki-Heck, and Tsuji-Trost couplings. The nanocomposite is resistant to harsh conditions and can therefore be recycled up to 10 cycles with high catalyst efficiency.

Abstract
A new eco-friendly catalytic system is devised for C-C bond formation through Suzuki coupling, using an impressive nanocatalyst (Fe3O4/L-(+)-tartaric acid/Pd-NPs). It contains immobilized palladium (0) onto magnetite nanoparticles, stabilized by tartaric acid, and is characterized by FT-IR, XRD, EDS, SEM, TEM, TGA, and VSM. The catalyst is used in an efficient synthesis of biaryls in EtOH/H2O (1:1), in the presence of K2CO3. Our Fe3O4/tartaric acid/Pd-NPs exhibit magnetic recoverability and reusability for five cycles without measurable loss of its activity.

Abstract
Biguanides are compounds in which two guanidine moieties are fused to form a highly conjugated system. Biguanides are highly basic and hence they are available as salts mostly hydrochloride salts, these cationic species have been found to exhibit many therapeutic properties. This review covers the research and development carried out on biguanides and accounts the various therapeutic applications of drugs containing biguanide group-such as antimalarial, antidiabetic, antiviral, anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-tubercular, antifilarial, anti-HIV, as well as other biological activities. The aim of this review is to compile all the medicinal chemistry applications of this class of compounds so as to pave way for the accelerated efforts in finding the drug action mechanisms associated with this class of compounds. Importance has been given to the organic chemistry of these biguanide derivatives also.

Abstract
Sulfonic acid functionalized over biguanidine fabricated silica-coated heterogeneous magnetic nanoparticles (NP@SO3H) have been synthesized, well characterized and explored for the first time, as an efficient and recyclable catalyst for N-formylation of primary amines under mild reaction conditions. Exploiting the magnetic nature of Fe3O4, the prepared catalyst was readily recovered from the reaction mixture via an external magnet. The catalyst can be reused for up to six cycles without any substantial loss of catalytic activity. The cost effectiveness, simple methodology, wide substrate tolerance, excellent yield and easy work-up are the additional advantages of present catalytic system. In this minireview, we discuss the chemistry of biguanides and their applications in catalysis. We present their super basicity as a consequence of their structure, the most efficient ways to synthesize symmetric and unsymmetric functionalized biguanides, and their applications in organic catalysis as triazine precursors and ligands in organometallic catalysis.

Abstract
Excessive activities of cysteinyl cathepsins (CysCts) contribute to the progress of many diseases; however, therapeutic inhibition has been problematic. Zn2+ is a natural inhibitor of proteases with CysHis dyads or CysHis(Xaa) triads. Biguanide forms bidentate metal complexes through the two imino nitrogens. Here, it is discussed that phenformin (phenylethyl biguanide) is a model for recruitment of endogenous Zn2+ to inhibit CysHis/CysHis(X) peptidolysis. Phenformin is a Zn2+-interactive, anti-proteolytic agent in bioassay of living tissue. Benzoyl-L-arginine amide (BAA) is a classical substrate of papain-like proteases; the amide bond is scissile. In this review, the structures of BAA and the phenformin-Zn2+ complex were compared in silico. Their chemistry and dimensions are discussed in light of the active sites of papain-like proteases. The phenyl moieties of both structures bind to the "S2" substrate-binding site that is typical of many proteases. When the phenyl moiety of BAA binds to S2, then the scissile amide bond is directed to the position of the thiolate-imidazolium ion pair, and is then hydrolyzed. However, when the phenyl moiety of phenformin binds to S2, then the coordinated Zn2+ is directed to the identical position; and catalysis is inhibited. Phenformin stabilizes a "Zn2+ sandwich" between the drug and protease active site. Hundreds of biguanide derivatives have been synthesized at the 1 and 5 nitrogen positions; many more are conceivable. Various substituent moieties can register with various arrays of substrate-binding sites so as to align coordinated Zn2+ with catalytic partners of diverse proteases. Biguanide is identified here as a modifiable pharmacophore for synthesis of therapeutic CysCt inhibitors with a wide range of potencies and specificities. Phenformin-Zn2+ Complex.
