Abstract
Recent advances in visible-light-promoted construction of tetrahydroquinolines from dimethylanilines and maleimides are documented. Homogeneous and heterogeneous photocatalytic systems, as well as the reaction mechanism, are emphasized. The mechanism of this photocatalytic annulation reaction is quite clear, i.e., dimethylanilines and maleimides serve as the radical precursors and radical acceptors, respectively. This annulation reaction could serve as an excellent platform for evaluating novel oxidative heterogeneous photocatalytic systems, which could further inspire chemists in this field to develop more efficient photocatalytic systems. Significant opportunities are expected in the future for heterogeneous photocatalysis strategies.

Abstract
In recent times, the incorporation of metal oxide nanoparticles with organic dyes has piqued the interest of numerous researchers due to their diverse applications under visible light instead of UV radiation. This investigation employed a three-step methodology to fabricate cyanidin-sensitized silver-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (Ag-ZnO@Cy). Initially, cyanidin dye was extracted from fresh black mulberry fruit, followed by the eco-friendly synthesis of Ag-ZnO nanoparticles (Ag-ZnONPs). The successful integration of the prepared cyanidin dye with Ag-ZnONPs was achieved through a straightforward, environmentally benign, and cost-efficient procedure. The resultant ternary composite underwent comprehensive characterization and confirmation utilizing various techniques, such as SEM, FT-IR, EDX, DRS, elemental mapping, and XRD. The experimental results for Ag-ZnONPs@Cy demonstrated that the nanocrystalline wurtzite exhibited spherical shapes with an average crystal size of 27.42 nm. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity of the synthesized Ag-ZnONPs@Cy was meticulously investigated under blue LED light irradiation. This inquiry encompassed examinations of catalyst amount, regeneration, stability, reusability, and the influence of light source on the hydrogenation of nitroarenes to the corresponding aminoarenes. The findings shed light on the potential of this composite for diverse photocatalytic applications.

Abstract
In the present day, the incorporation of environmentally conscious practices in the realm of photocatalysis holds a prominent position within the domain of organic synthesis. The imperative to tackle environmental issues linked to catalysts that cannot be recycled, generation of waste, byproducts, and challenges in achieving reaction selectivity during organic synthesis are more crucial than ever. One potential solution involves the integration of recyclable nanomaterials with light as a catalyst, offering the possibility of achieving sustainable and atom-efficient transformations in organic synthesis. Metal oxide nanoparticles exhibit activation capabilities under UV light, constituting a small percentage (4-8%) of sunlight. However, this method lacks sufficient environmental friendliness, and the issue of electron-hole recombination poses a significant hurdle. To tackle these challenges, multiple approaches have been proposed. This comprehensive review article focuses on the efficacy of dyes in enhancing the capabilities of heterogeneous photocatalysts, offering a promising avenue to overcome the constraints associated with metal oxides in their role as photocatalysts. The article delves into the intricate design aspects of dye-sensitized photocatalysts and sheds light on their mechanisms in facilitating organic transformations.

Abstract
Photocatalytic organic synthesis/conversions and water treatment under visible light are a challenging task to use renewable energy in chemical transformations. In this review a brief overview on the mainly employed visible light photocatalysts and a discussion on the problems and advantages of Vis-light versus UV-light irradiation is reported. Visible light photocatalysts in the photocatalytic conversion of CO2, conversion of acetophenone to phenylethanol, hydrogenation of nitro compounds, oxidation of cyclohexane, synthesis of vanillin and phenol, as well as hydrogen production and water treatment are discussed. Some applications of these photocatalysts in photocatalytic membrane reactors (PMRs) for carrying out organic synthesis, conversion and/or degradation of organic pollutants are reported. The described cases show that PMRs represent a promising green technology that could shift on applications of industrial interest using visible light (from Sun) active photocatalysts.

Abstract
A novel photocatalyst (Cu-TiO2@HQ) had been synthesized by combining Cu-doped TiO2 nanoparticles with 8-Hydroxyquinoline (HQ) via hydrothermal method. The photocatalytic activities of Cu-TiO2@HQ were investigated by using phenol and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) as target pollutants, respectively. The results indicated that the degradation efficiencies of phenol and TBBPA by Cu-TiO2@HQ were 99.2% (in 30 min) and 99.4% (in 10 min) under visible light irradiation. Both of them were much better than that of pure TiO2 (8.63% in 30 min) and Cu-TiO2 (14.74% in 30 min). When phenol or TBBPA were degraded together with the reduction of Cr (VI), the reaction rate of each pollutant was significantly increased, and the cyclic stability of photocatalyst Cu-TiO2@HQ was greatly improved. Based on the spectroscopic and photoelectric characteristic analysis we found that in the mixture of phenol-Cr (VI) or TBBPA-Cr (VI) both photo-generated electrons and holes can be consumed simultaneously, thus preventing their recombination. The possible degradation products of phenol and TBBPA including its degradation path way were also analyzed by high resolution liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-mass spectrometry.

Abstract
Catalytic transfer hydrogenation reactions, based on hydrogen sources other than gaseous H₂, are important processes that are preferential in both laboratories and factories. However, harsh conditions, such as high temperature, are usually required for most transition-metal catalytic and organocatalytic systems. Moreover, non-volatile hydrogen donors such as dihydropyridinedicarboxylate and formic acid are often required in these processes which increase the difficulty in separating products and lowered the whole atom economy. Recently, TiO₂ photocatalysis provides mild and facile access for transfer hydrogenation of C=C, C=O, N=O and C-X bonds by using volatile alcohols and amines as hydrogen sources. Upon light excitation, TiO₂ photo-induced holes have the ability to oxidatively take two hydrogen atoms off alcohols and amines under room temperature. Simultaneously, photo-induced conduction band electrons would combine with these two hydrogen atoms and smoothly hydrogenate multiple bonds and/or C-X bonds. It is heartening that practices and principles in the transfer hydrogenations of substrates containing C=C, C=O, N=O and C-X bond based on TiO₂ photocatalysis have overcome a lot of the traditional thermocatalysis' limitations and flaws which usually originate from high temperature operations. In this review, we will introduce the recent paragon examples of TiO₂ photocatalytic transfer hydrogenations used in (1) C=C and C≡C (2) C=O and C=N (3) N=O substrates and in-depth discuss basic principle, status, challenges and future directions of transfer hydrogenation mediated by TiO₂ photocatalysis.

Abstract
During photosynthesis of metal nanoparticles (NPs) in aromatic ketone systems, the aromatic ketone triplets are explored as hydrogen atom/electron abstractors which yield highly reactive radicals. However, their electron donation ability is sparsely recognized. Here we report the investigations of benzophenone (BP)-initiated one-step photosynthesis of Ag NPs in H donor free system using spectroscopic and theoretical methods. Experimentally, the direct observations of BP cation radical (BP+·) and Ag NPs via transit and steady-state absorption spectroscopy demonstrate the electron donation ability of BP triplets which directly reduce Ag+ to Ag0. In the following reactions, both theoretical calculation and experimental results reveal that the generated BP+· recovers itself to BP by grabbing an electron from NO3- and the generated nitrate radicals (NO3·) then decay to nitrogen oxides. Notably, BP plays a role as photocatalyst in our system. This study details the mechanism of one-step photosynthesis of Ag NPs which provides a new insight of aromatic ketones in photochemistry and may offer a facile approach to photosynthesis of metal NPs.

Abstract
The homogeneous titanium- and dye-catalyzed as well as the heterogeneous semiconductor particle-catalyzed photohydroxymethylation of ketones by methanol were investigated in order to evaluate the most active photocatalyst system. Dialkoxytitanium dichlorides are the most efficient species for chemoselective hydroxymethylation of acetophenone as well as other aromatic and aliphatic ketones. Pinacol coupling is the dominant process for semiconductor catalysis and ketone reduction dominates the Ti(OiPr)4/methanol or isopropanol systems. Application of dilution effects on the TiO2 catalysis leads to an increase in hydroxymethylation at the expense of the pinacol coupling.
