Abstract
Butadiene (BD) is a critical raw material in chemical industry, which is conventionally produced from naphtha cracking. The fast-growing demand of BD and the limited oil reserve motivate chemists to develop alternative methods for BD production. Shale gas, which mainly consists of light alkanes, has been considered as cheap raw materials to replace oil for BD production via n-butane direct dehydrogenation (n-BDH). However, the quest for highly-efficient catalysts for n-BDH is driven by the current drawback of low BD selectivity. Here, we demonstrate a strategy for boosting the selectivity of BD by suppressing dehydroisomerization, an inevitable step in the conventional n-BDH process which largely reduces the selectivity of BD. Detailed investigations show that the addition of alkali-earth metals (e. g., Mg and Ca) into Pt-Ga2 O3 /S10 catalysts increases Pt dispersity, suppresses coke deposition and dehydroisomerization, and thus leads to the significant increase of BD selectivity. The optimized catalyst displays an initial BD selectivity of 34.7 % at a n-butane conversion of 82.1 % at 625 °C, which outperforms the reported catalysts in literatures. This work not only provides efficient catalysts for BD production via n-BDH, but also promotes the researches on catalyst design in heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
Pt–Sn/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by the direct reduction method at temperatures from 450 to 900 °C, denoted as an SR series (SR450 to SR900 according to reduction temperature). Direct reduction was performed immediately after catalyst drying without a calcination step. The activity of SR catalysts and a conventionally prepared (Cal600) catalyst were compared to evaluate its effect on direct reduction. Among the SR catalysts, SR550 showed overall higher conversion of propane and propylene selectivity than Cal600. The nano-sized dispersion of metals on SR550 was verified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation. The phases of the bimetallic Pt–Sn alloys were examined by X-ray diffraction, TEM, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Two characteristic peaks of Pt3Sn and PtSn alloys were observed in the XRD patterns, and these phases affected the catalytic performance. Moreover, EDS confirmed the formation of Pt3Sn and PtSn alloys on the catalyst surface. In terms of catalytic activity, the Pt3Sn alloy showed better performance than the PtSn alloy. Relationships between the intermetallic interactions and catalytic activity were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Furthermore, qualitative analysis of coke formation was conducted after propane dehydrogenation using differential thermal analysis.

Co-Aromatization of n-Butane and Methanol over PtSnK-Mo/ZSM-5 Zeolite Catalysts: The Promotion Effect of Ball-Milling. Catalysts 2018. Abstract
The ball-milling (BM) method benefits the stabilization and dispersion of metallic particles for the preparation of the PtSnK–Mo/ZSM-5 catalyst. Based on the TPR, H2-TPD, XPS, and CO-FTIR results, the Pt–SnOx and MoOx species were formed separately on the BM sample. During the aromatization of cofeeding the n-butane with methanol, the yield of the aromatics is 59 wt.% at a n-butane conversion of 86% at 475 °C over the Pt Mo BM catalyst. The more weak acid sites also contribute to the aromatics formation with the less light alkanes formation. For the Pt Ga catalysts, the slow loss of activity suggests that the BM method can restrain the coke deposition on the Pt-SnOx species, because of a certain distance between the Pt–SnOx and GaOx species on the surface of ZSM-5.
