First application of homogeneous Pd nanoparticles prepared by pulsed laser ablation in liquid to a Suzuki-type reaction

One-step synthesis of PdCu@Ti3C2 with high catalytic activity in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction

Owing to their enhanced catalytic stability and cyclability, two-dimensional (2D) material-supported Pd-based bimetallic alloys have promising applications for catalytic reactions. Furthermore, the alloying strategy can effectively reduce costs and improve catalytic performance. In this paper, we report a one-step reduction method to synthesize a novel heterogeneous catalyst, PdCu@Ti₃C₂, with good catalytic performance. The composition and structure of the as-prepared catalyst were characterized by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The catalyst particles, which were identified as a PdCu bimetallic alloy, exhibited good dispersion on the substrate. The performance of the catalyst in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction was studied, and the results showed that PdCu@Ti₃C₂ had excellent catalytic activity, similar to that of homogeneous Pd catalysts such as Pd(PPh₃)₄. Moreover, the prepared catalyst could be reused at least 10 times in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction with high yield.

Pulsed Laser in Liquids Made Nanomaterials for Catalysis

Catalysis is essential to modern life and has a huge economic impact. The development of new catalysts critically depends on synthetic methods that enable the preparation of tailored nanomaterials. Pulsed laser in liquids synthesis can produce uniform, multicomponent, nonequilibrium nanomaterials with independently and precisely controlled properties, such as size, composition, morphology, defect density, and atomistic structure within the nanoparticle and at its surface. We cover the fundamentals, unique advantages, challenges, and experimental solutions of this powerful technique and review the state-of-the-art of laser-made electrocatalysts for water oxidation, oxygen reduction, hydrogen evolution, nitrogen reduction, carbon dioxide reduction, and organic oxidations, followed by laser-made nanomaterials for light-driven catalytic processes and heterogeneous catalysis of thermochemical processes. We also highlight laser-synthesized nanomaterials for which proposed catalytic applications exist. This review provides a practical guide to how the catalysis community can capitalize on pulsed laser in liquids synthesis to advance catalyst development, by leveraging the synergies of two fields of intensive research.

Novel Magnetically-Recyclable, Nitrogen-Doped Fe3O4@Pd NPs for Suzuki–Miyaura Coupling and Their Application in the Synthesis of Crizotinib

Novel magnetically recyclable Fe3O4@Pd nanoparticles (NPs) were favorably synthesized by fixing palladium on the surface of nitrogen-doped magnetic nanocomposites. These catalysts were fully characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The prepared catalyst exhibited good catalytic activity for Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reactions of aryl or heteroaryl halides (I, Br, Cl) with arylboronic acids. These as-prepared catalysts could be readily isolated from the reaction liquid by an external magnet and reused at least ten times with excellent yields achieved. In addition, using this protocol, the marketed drug crizotinib (anti-tumor) could be easily synthesized.
