Abstract
Activation of inert CO2 molecules for the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction is tackled by incorporating magnesium oxide as a support material for copper, forming a Cu/MgO supported catalyst. The RWGS performance is greatly improved when compared with pure Cu or carbon supported Cu (Cu/C). Operating under a weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) of 300,000 mL ⋅ g-1 ⋅ h-1 , the Cu/MgO catalyst demonstrates high activity, maintaining over 70 % equilibrium conversion and nearly 100 % CO selectivity in a temperature range of 300-600 °C. In contrast, both Cu/C and commercial Cu, even at ten-times lower WHSV, can only achieve up to 40 % of the equilibrium conversion and quickly deactivated due to sintering. Based on the studies of in-situ temperature resolved infrared spectroscopy and temperature programmed desorption, the improved RWGS performance is attributed to the unique adsorption behavior of CO2 on Cu/MgO. Density functional theory studies provides a plausible explanation from a surface reaction perspective and reveals the spill-over property of CO2 from MgO to Cu being critical.

Abstract
The confinement-dependent properties of solvents, particularly water, within nanoporous spaces impart unique physical and chemical behavior compared to those of the bulk. This has previously been demonstrated for a U(VI)-based metal organic nanotube that displays ice-like arrays of water molecules within the 1-D pore space and complete selectivity to H2O over all other solvents and isotopologues. Based upon our previous work on D2O and HTO adsorption processes, we suggested that the water uptake was controlled by a two-step process: (1) surface adsorption via hydrogen bonding to hydrophilic amine and carboxylic groups and (2) diffusion of the water into the hydrophobic 1-D nanochannels. The current study seeks to evaluate this hypothesis and expand our existing kinetic model for the water diffusion step to account for the initial surface adsorption process. Vapor sorption experiments, paired with thermogravimetric and Fourier-transform infrared analyses, yielded uptake data that were fit using a Langmuir model for the surface-adsorption step of the mechanism. The water adsorption curve was designated a type IV Brunauer-Emmett-Teller isotherm, which indicated that our original hypothesis was correct. Additional work with binary solvent systems enabled us to evaluate the uptake in a range of conditions and determine that the uptake is not controlled by the vapor pressure but is instead completely dependent on the relative humidity of the system.

Abstract
A series of Mg-Zr composite oxide catalysts prepared by the hydrothermal process were used for the transesterification of glycerol (GL) with dimethyl carbonate (DMC) to produce glycerol carbonate (GC). The effects of the preparation method (co-precipitation, hydrothermal process) and Mg/Zr ratio on the catalytic performance were systematically investigated, and the deactivation of the catalyst was also explored. The Mg-Zr composite oxide catalysts were characterized by XRD, TEM, TPD, N2 adsorption-desorption, and XPS. The characterization results showed that compared with the co-precipitation process, the catalyst prepared by the hydrothermal process has a larger specific surface area, smaller grain size, and higher dispersion. Mg1Zr2-HT catalyst calcined at 600 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere exhibited the best catalytic performance. Under the conditions of reaction time of 90 min, reaction temperature of 90 °C, catalyst dosage of 3 wt% of GL, and GL/DMC molar ratio of 1/5, the GL conversion was 99% with 96.1% GC selectivity, and the yield of GC was 74.5% when it was reused for the fourth time.

Abstract
Glycerol is a byproduct from biodiesel production via conventional transesterification processes, representing approximately 10 wt% of the mass of biodiesel produced. Because of increasing biodiesel consumption, the volume of glycerol being produced has grown significantly, leading to a large surplus and, consequently, a dramatic drop in its market value. Thus, the valorization of glycerol into chemicals is a promising pathway toward sustainability in biodiesel industries. This study focused on upgrading biodiesel plant-derived glycerol into short-chain polyglycerols (PG), which are used as intermediates for producing emulsifiers in several consumer products, via catalytic etherification. To enhance environmental sustainability, solvent-free etherification of glycerol was performed over mixed oxides derived from magnesium-aluminum layered double hydroxides (MgAl LDH). For the first time, natural dolomite, a mixed calcium and magnesium carbonate (CaMg [CO3]2), was used as an Mg source in the preparation of MgAl LDH/CaCO3 nanocomposites via hydrothermal synthesis. The calcined MgAl LDH/CaCO3 nanocomposites were characterized by highly dispersed small crystallites of magnesium oxide. Their textural and acid-base properties were tuned by varying the Mg:Al molar ratio. The MgAl LDH/CaCO3 (an Mg:Al molar ratio of 1:1) calcined at 500 °C exhibited a superior catalytic performance to the MgAl LDH available commercially and the one synthesized by conventional co-precipitation. The nanocomposite catalyst displayed selectivity of >99% toward short-chain PG at 52.1 mol% glycerol conversion.

Abstract
A rod-like-CeO2-supported Pd catalyst (Pd/CeO2-r) was prepared using two-step hydrothermal impregnation and used in the oxidative carbonylation of glycerol to produce glycerol carbonate. The characterization results showed that the Pd was highly dispersed on the surface of the CeO2-r, and metallic Pd was the main species in the catalyst. The Pd/CeO2-r exhibited good catalytic performance for the oxidative carbonylation of glycerol. Under optimized reaction conditions, the glycerol conversion and glycerol carbonate selectivity were 93% and 98%, respectively, and turnover frequency was 1240 h−1. However, because of the leaching of Pd and the growth of Pd particles, the catalyst was gradually deactivated throughout reuse. Pd/CeO2-r was prepared by a two-step hydrothermal-impregnation method for oxidative carbonylation of glycerol. It exhibited high activity, and glycerol conversion was 93% and glycerol carbonate selectivity was 98% with a TOF of 1240 h−1 under optimized conditions.![]()

Abstract
The ultra-functional potential of nickel oxide (NiO) and magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles (NPs), provides for extensive attention in the use of these metal oxides as a remarkable and electroactive nanocomposite in potentiometric and sensing investigations. This work proposed a new strategy for quantifying doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) in pharmaceuticals and human plasma by preparing a NiO/MgO core-shell nanocomposite modified coated wire membrane sensor. Doxorubicin hydrochloride was incorporated with phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) to produce doxorubicin hydrochloride phosphomolybdate (DOX-PM) as an electroactive material in the presence of polymeric high molecular weight poly vinyl chloride (PVC) and solvent mediator o-nitrophenyloctyl ether (o-NPOE). The modified sensor exhibited ultra sensitivity and high selectivity for the detection and quantification of doxorubicin hydrochloride with a linear relationship in the range of 1.0 × 10-11-1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1. The equation of regression was estimated to be EmV = (57.86 ± 0.8) log [DOX] + 723.19. However, the conventional type DOX-PM showed a potential response over a concentration range of 1.0 × 10-6-1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1 and a regression equation of EmV = (52.92 ± 0.5) log [DOX] + 453.42. The suggested sensors were successfully used in the determination of doxorubicin hydrochloride in commercial injections and human plasma.

Abstract
Biofuel synthesis is of great significance for producing alternative fuels. Among
the developed catalytic materials, the metal-organic framework-based hybrids used as
acidic, basic, or supported catalysts play major roles in the biodiesel production. This paper
presents a timely and comprehensive review of recent developments on the design and
preparation of metal-organic frameworks-based catalysts used for biodiesel synthesis from
various oil feedstocks, including MILs-based catalysts, ZIFs-based catalysts, UiO-based
catalysts, Cu-BTC-based catalysts, and MOFs-derived porous catalysts. Due to their
unique and flexible structures, excellent thermal and hydrothermal stability, and tunable
host-guest interactions, as compared with other heterogeneous catalysts, metal-organic
framework-based catalysts have good opportunities for application in the production of
biodiesel at industrial scale.

Abstract
A series of robust and efficient Cu-Al hydrotalcite-like compounds (HTLc) as catalysts were prepared by the simple precipitation method with different Cu/Al molar ratios and investigated for the transcarbonation of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate (DMC) for glycerol carbonate (GC) synthesis in a batch reactor. The structural and textural properties of the Cu-Al (HTLc) catalysts were analyzed by several methods like N2-sorption, SEM-EDX/TEM, XRD, FTIR, CO2-TPD, TGA/DTA and ICP-OES. It was found that the transcarbonation of glycerol is directly dependent on the strong basic sites of the catalysts. The Cu/Al molar ratio has easily tuned the glycerol conversion and the GC yield. Among all synthesized catalysts, the Copper-Aluminum (3Cu-Al@500) catalyst showed excellent catalytic activity for a glycerol conversion (96%) and a GC yield (86%) with reaction rate (irrespective to glycerol) of approximately 0.106 mol L-1 h-1. Furthermore, the optimization of the reaction conditions (i.e. molar ratio of the reactants, catalyst mass, reaction time and temperature) and the reusability of the 3Cu-Al@500 catalyst for glycerol conversion and GC yield with TOF value were studied. In addition, the effect of stirring speed and particle size on the minimization of external and internal mass transfer resistance, respectively, was investigated.

Abstract
Glycerol is one of the most crucial by-products in the production of biodiesel, and owing to its oversaturation in the market, several synthetic strategies have been developed to transform it into other higher value-added products such as glycerol carbonate, epichlorohydrin, 1,3-propanediol, etc. Amongst them, glycerol carbonate is considered to be the most valuable product. Considering the facile separation and reusability of catalyst, heterogeneous base catalysts have attracted considerable attention due to the obvious advantages over Brϕnsted acid and homogeneous base catalysts in the transesterification of glycerol. Herein, we will give a short overview on the recent development of the heterogeneous catalysis in the transesterification of glycerol with dialkyl carbonate. Focus will be concentrated on the heterogeneous base catalysts including alkaline-earth metal oxides (MgO, CaO, and mixed oxides), hydrotalcites, zeolites, clinoptilolites, organic bases, etc. Their catalytic mechanisms during the heterogeneous process will be elucidated in detail.
