Highly Efficient and Reusable Alkyne Hydrosilylation Catalysts Based on Rhodium Complexes Ligated by Imidazolium-Substituted Phosphine. Catalysts 2020. Abstract
Rhodium complexes ligated by imidazolium-substituted phosphine were used as catalysts in the hydrosilylation of alkynes (1-heptyne, 1-octyne, and phenylacetylene) with 1,1,1,3,5,5,5-heptamethyltrisiloxane (HMTS) or triethylsilane (TES). In all cases, the above complexes showed higher activity and selectivity compared to their precursors ([Rh(PPh3)3Cl] and [{Rh(µ-Cl)(cod)}2]). In the reactions with aliphatic alkynes (both when HMTS and TES were used as hydrosilylating agents), β(Z) isomer was mainly formed, but, in the reaction of phenylacetylene with TES, the β(E) product was formed. The catalysts are very durable, stable in air and first and foremost insoluble in the reactants which facilitated their isolation and permitted their multiple use in subsequent catalytic runs. They make a very good alternative to the commonly used homogeneous catalysts.

Abstract
A mini-review based on radial growing macromolecules and core initiated Borane
periphery decorated with o-carboranes and metallacarboranes that has been developed in the
authors laboratories is reported. The review is divided into four sections; three of them are
related to the design and synthesis of these large boron-containing molecules and the fourth
deals with the unique properties of anionic metallacarborane molecules that provide a glimpse
of their potential for their promising use in medicinal applications. Their unique stability
along with their geometrical and electronic properties, as well as the precise steric structure of
1,2-closo-C2B10H12 (o-carborane) that has the potential for the incorporation of many substituents:
at the carbon (Cc), at the boron and at both carbon and boron vertices, suggests this
cluster as an innovative building block or platform for novel applications that cannot be
achieved with organic hydrocarbon compounds. Poly(aryl-ether) dendrimers grown from
fluorescent cores, such as 1,3,5-triarylbenzene or meso-porphyrins, have been decorated with
boron clusters to attain rich boron containing dendrimers. Octasilsesquioxane cubes have been
used as a core for its radial growth to get boron-rich large molecules. The unique properties of
cobaltabisdicarbollide cluster, which include: i) self-assembly in water to produce monolayer
nano-vesicles, ii) crossing lipid bilayer membranes, iii) interacting with membrane cells, iv)
facilitating its visualization within cells by Raman and fluorescence techniques and v) their
use as molecular platform for “in vivo” imaging are discussed in detail.

Abstract
Two sets of o-carborane derivatives incorporating fluorene and anthracene fragments as fluorophore groups have been successfully synthesized and characterized, and their photophysical properties studied. The first set, comprising fluorene-containing carboranes 6-9, was prepared by catalyzed hydrosilylation reactions of ethynylfluorene with appropriate carboranylsilanes. The compound 1-[(9,9-dioctyl-fluorene-2-yl)ethynyl]carborane (11) was synthesized by the reaction of 9,9-dioctyl-2-ethynylfluorene and decaborane (B10H14). Furthermore, reactions of the lithium salt of 11 with 1 equivalent of 4-(chloromethyl)styrene or 9-(chloromethyl)anthracene yielded compounds 12 and 13. Members of the second set of derivatives, comprising anthracene-containing carboranes, were synthesized by reactions of monolithium or dilithium salts of 1-Me-1,2-C2B10H11, 1-Ph-1,2-C2B10H11, and 1,2-C2B10H12 with 1 or 2 equivalents of 9-(chloromethyl)anthracene, respectively, to produce compounds 14-16. In addition, 2 equivalents of the monolithium salts of 1-Me-1,2-C2B10H11 (Me-o-carborane) and 1-Ph-1,2-C2B10H11 (Ph-o-carborane) were reacted with 9,10-bis(chloromethyl)anthracene to produce compounds 17 and 18, respectively. Fluorene derivatives 6-9 exhibit moderate fluorescence quantum yields (32-44 %), whereas 11-13, in which the fluorophore is bonded to the Ccluster (Cc), show very low emission intensity (6 %) or complete fluorescence quenching. The anthracenyl derivatives containing the Me-o-carborane moiety exhibit notably high fluorescence emissions, with ϕF = 82 and 94 %, whereas their Ph-o-carborane analogues are not fluorescent at all. For these compounds, we have observed a correlation between the Cc-Cc bond length and the fluorescence intensity in CH2Cl2 solution, comparable to that observed for previously reported styrene-containing carboranes. Thus, our hypothesis is that for systems of this type the fluorescence may be tuned and even predicted by changing the substituent on the adjacent Cc.
