A Synthetic View on Momilactones and Related 9β-H Pimarane Skeleton Diterpenoids

Allelochemicals are secondary metabolites produced from plants and used to prevent and control the invasion of other plants and microorganisms, with broad application prospects in crop protection. Structurally, momilactones belong to 9β-H pimarane diterpenoids, one of rice’s significant allelochemicals with anti-weeds and antibacterial activity. Rare studies have been reported with the synthesis challenges of the unique 9β-H pimarane skeleton. Hence, synthetic strategies of momilactones and related 9β-H pimarane skeleton are reviewed from 1984 to 2021.

Total syntheses of wentilactones A and B, and related norditerpene dilactones

A divergent approach toward the synthesis of A-ring functionalized tetranorditerpenoid dilactones has been developed, employing 3β-hydroxydilactone 6 as a common precursor which is readily derived from (S)-Wieland–Miescher ketone.

Synthesis of (-)-Mitrephorone A via a Bioinspired Late Stage C-H Oxidation of (-)-Mitrephorone B

We present a bioinspired late-stage C-H oxidation of the ent-trachylobane natural product mitrephorone B to mitrephorone A. The realization of this unprecedented transformation was accomplished by either an iron-catalyzed or electrochemical oxidation and enabled access to the densely substituted oxetane in one step. Formation of mitrephorone C, which is lacking the central oxetane unit but features a keto-function at C2, was not formed under these conditions.

Enantioselective Access to Robinson Annulation Products and Michael Adducts as Precursors

The Robinson annulation is a reaction that has been useful for numerous syntheses since its discovery in 1935, especially in the field of steroid synthesis. The products are usually obtained after three consecutive steps: the formation of an enolate (or derivative), a conjugate addition, and an aldol reaction. Over the years, several methodological improvements have been made for each individual step or alternative routes have been devised to access the Robinson annulation products. The first part of this Review outlines the most relevant developments towards the formation of monocarbonyl-derived Robinson annulation products (MRA products, MRAPs) and activated monocarbonyl-derived Robinson annulation products (AMRA products, AMRAPs). The following sections are then devoted to the diastereoselective and enantioselective synthesis of these products, while the last section describes the enantiomeric resolution of racemic mixtures.

Efforts to total synthesis of philinopside E: convergent synthesis of the sulfated lanostane-type tetraglycoside

As part of total synthesis of philinopside E, herein we describe convergent synthesis of a triterpene glcoside composed of the sulfated tetrasaccharide residue identical to that of philinopside E and the algycone of lanost-7-en-3β-ol.
