Abstract
The formulation of magnetic ionic liquids (MILs) or organic salts based on lanthanides as anions has been explored. In this work, a set of choline-family-based salts, and two other, different cation families, were combined with Gadolinium(III) and Terbium(III) anions. Synthetic methodologies were previously optimized, and all organic salts were obtained as solids with melting temperatures higher than 100 °C. The magnetic moments obtained for the Gd(III) salts were, as expected, smaller than those obtained for the Tb(III)-based compounds. The values for Gd(III) and Tb(III) magnetic salts are in the range of 6.55-7.30 MB and 8.22-9.34 MB, respectively. It is important to note a correlation between the magnetic moments obtained for lanthanides, and the structural features of the cation. The cytotoxicity of lanthanide-based salts was also evaluated using 3T3, 293T, Caco2, and HepG2 cells, and it was revealed that most of the prepared compounds are not toxic.

Abstract
Non-invasive glucose determination provides major advantages in health monitoring and protection. It enables widespread point-of-care testing, which is affordable, sensitive, specific, rapid and equipment-free. This work reports on the development and analytical performance of a colorimetric biosensor in detecting glucose in human urine. Highly porous polyamide microparticles were synthesized as the support for the glucose oxidase (GOx) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) dyad, which was immobilized randomly or consecutively-first HRP and then GOx. The latter system was superior, as GH@PA-C showed much higher activity than the random system, and it was used to prepare the biosensor, along with the 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine chromogen. When in contact with urine, the biosensor displayed a strict linear correlation between the color difference and the glucose concentration in urine in the range of 0.01-3.0 mM, as established by the CIELab image processing algorithm and UV-VIS measurements. The biosensor acted in 20 s and had a detection limit of 30.7 µM in urine, high operational activity at pH = 4-8 and unchanged detection performance after 30 days of storage. Its unique feature is the possibility of multiple consecutive uses without the serious deterioration of the recovery and dispersion values. These characteristics can open the way for new routines in non-invasive personal diabetes detection.

Abstract
In this work, a localized plasmon-based sensor is developed for para-cresol (p-cresol) - a water pollutant detection. A nonadiabatic [Formula: see text] of tapered optical fiber (TOF) has been experimentally fabricated and computationally analyzed using beam propagation method. For optimization of sensor's performance, two probes are proposed, where probe 1 is immobilized with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and probe 2 is immobilized with the AuNPs along with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs). The synthesized metal nanomaterials were characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (UV-vis spectrophotometer) and transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM). The nanomaterials coating on the surface of the sensing probe were characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Thereafter, to increase the specificity of the sensor, the probes are functionalized with tyrosinase enzyme. Different solutions of p-cresol in the concentration range of [Formula: see text] - [Formula: see text] are prepared in an artificial urine solution for sensing purposes. Different analytes such as uric acid, β -cyclodextrin, L-alanine, and glycine are prepared for selectivity measurement. The linearity range, sensitivity, and limit of detection (LOD) of probe 1 are [Formula: see text] - [Formula: see text], 7.2 nm/mM (accuracy 0.977), and [Formula: see text], respectively; and for probe 2 are [Formula: see text] - [Formula: see text], 5.6 nm/mM (accuracy 0.981), and [Formula: see text], respectively. Thus, the overall performance of probe 2 is quite better due to the inclusion of ZnO-NPs that increase the biocompatibility of sensor probe. The proposed sensor structure has potential applications in the food industry and clinical medicine.

Abstract
A water-soluble turn-on fluorescent probe has been rationally designed and synthesized to distinguish Cys from Hcy and GSH in less than five seconds. It has high sensitivity and strong anti-interference ability to other amino acids and ions. Its ultra-rapid detection of Cys in aqueous systems could be attributed to dual response sites imparted by the probe.

Abstract
A new mixed pyridyl-carboxylate ligand with two picolinate chromophores and a flexible linear spacer, potassium 2,2'-(butane-1,4-diylbis((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)azanediyl))diacetate (K2bpbd), which is obtained in high yield and spectroscopically characterized, has been utilized to make new lanthanide complexes, namely, [Ln(bpbd) (H2O)2(NO3)]·xH2O, where Ln = Tb (1) and x = 6, Ln = Sm (2) and x = 7, and Ln = Dy (3) and x = 7. These complexes have been extensively characterized by various spectroscopic techniques (UV-vis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), elemental analyses, thermogravimetric analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction. These show very intense characteristic luminescence features that confirm the antenna effect of the ligand on the metal center. These complexes have been utilized for the detection of various nitroaromatic compounds. Among these three complexes, 1 is found to be the best for the selective sensing of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol in water with a detection limit of (0.35 ± 0.05) ppm. Its Stern-Volmer constant, K SV [(5.48 ± 0.1) × 104 M-1], is one of the highest among similar sensors reported so far.

Abstract
The 9-hydroxy-1,3-diazaphenoxazine-2-one unit was conjugated with the Eu3+-cyclen complex through a linker. This diazaphenoxazine group was expected as an antenna unit for the excitation of europium ion, and a selective recognition site for 8-oxo-dGTP base. Among the synthesized three derivatives, the highest fluorescence emission was obtained by the complex constructed of an ethylene linker and the cyclen unit with three N,N-dimethylacetamide groups. The Eu3+-cyclen complex exhibited a selective response to the 8-oxo-dGTP in aqueous media by a time-resolved fluorescence assay.
