Abstract
Seven asymmetric zinc benzamidinate complexes featuring or lacking side-arm functionalities were synthesized. Using equimolar zinc reagent produced distinct dinuclear motifs [(C6H5-C = NC6H5)ZnEt]2 (R = tBu, 1; (CH2)2OMe, 2; (CH2)2NMe2, 3). Half the zinc reagent yielded dinuclear [(C6H5-C = NC6H5)2Zn]2 (R = tBu, 4) or mononuclear zinc bis(chelate) complexes (R = (CH2)2OMe, 5; (CH2)2NMe2, 6; CH2Py, 7). Molecular structures of 1-4 and 7 were determined via single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Altering benzamidinate substituents modifies both coordination modes and catalytic activities in ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide. Specifically, complex 7 exhibits enhanced catalytic activity at 25 °C using 100 equivalents of L-lactide with a turnover frequency of 1820 h-1.

Abstract
The pyridyl functionalized amidinate [{PyC≡CC(NDipp)2 }Li(thf)2 ]n was used to synthesize a series of bis-amidinate complexes [{PyC≡CC(NDipp)2 }2 M2 ] (M=Cu, Ag, Au) with fully supported metallophilic interactions. These metalloligands were then used as building blocks for the synthesis of one-dimensional heterobimetallic coordination polymers using Zn(hfac)2 (hfac=hexaflouroacetylacetonate) for self-assembly. Interestingly, the three coordination polymers [{PyC≡CC(NDipp)2 }2 M2 ][Zn(hfac)2 ] (M=Cu, Ag, Au), exhibit a zig zag shape in the solid state. To achieve linear coordination geometry other connectors such as M'(acac) (M'=Ni, Co) (acac=acetylacetonate) were investigated. The thus obtained compounds [{PyC≡CC(NDipp)2 }2 Cu2 ][M'(acac)2 ] (M'=Ni, Co) are indeed linear heterobimetallic coordination polymers featuring a metalloligand backbone with fully supported metallophilic interactions.

Abstract
Lappert's stannylene (Sn[N(SiMe3)2]2) has been reacted with various nitriles, dinitriles and trinitriles with the formation of heteroleptic amidotin(II) amidinates of the general formulae [RC(NSiMe3)2]SnN(SiMe3)2, R'{[C(NSiMe3)2]SnN(SiMe3)2}2 and R''{[C(NSiMe3)2]SnN(SiMe3)2}3, where R = Ph (1), 2-(CN)-C6H4 (2), 3-(CN)-C6H4 (3); R' = 1,3-C6H4 (4), 1,4-C6H4 (5) and R'' = 1,3,5-C6H3 (6). The reactions of amidotin(II) benzamidinate 1 with an excess of benzonitrile proceed to homoleptic tin(II) bis(benzamidinate) [PhC(NSiMe3)2]2Sn, which reversibly eliminates benzonitrile and 1 when warmed. The premise of reversibility has been supported by a multinuclear time-dependent NMR study and a theoretical (DFT) description. On the other hand, magnesium(II) bis(benzamidinate) [PhC(NSiMe3)2]2Mg (8) and lanthanum(II) tris(benzamidinate) [PhC(NSiMe3)2]3La (7) have been synthesised from appropriate metal hexamethyldisilazides and benzonitrile.

Abstract
The reaction of a chlorosilylene, supported by an iminophosphonamide ligand, with KN(SiMe3)2 resulted in the formation of a silaimine instead of the expected aminosilylene. However, this silaimine exists in equilibrium with the corresponding aminosilylene, which was experimentally demonstrated using variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy and a trapping reaction with elemental selenium to give a silaselenourea.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are an important class of reactive organic molecules used as ligands, organocatalysts, and σ-donors in a variety of electroneutral ylide or betaine adducts with main-group compounds. An emerging class of betaine adducts made from the reaction of NHCs with carbodiimides (CDIs) form zwitterionic amidinate-like structures with tunable properties based on the highly modular NHC and CDI scaffolds. The adduct stability is controlled by the substituents on the CDI nitrogens, while the NHC substituents greatly affect the configuration of the adduct in the solid state. This Perspective is intended as a primer to these adducts, touching on their history, synthesis, characterization, and general properties. Despite the infancy of the field, NHC-CDI adducts have been applied as amidinate-type ligands for transition metals and nanoparticles, as junctions in zwitterionic polymers, and to stabilize distonic radical cations. These applications and potential future directions are discussed.

Abstract
Pyridinyl- and phosphano-guanidino complexes of formula [(η6-p-cymene)OsCl(H2L)][SbF6] (cymene = MeC6H4iPr; H2L = N,N'-bis(p-Tolyl)-N''-(2-pyridinylmethyl)guanidine, H2L1 (1) and N,N'-bis(p-Tolyl)-N''-(2-diphenylphosphanoethyl)guanidine, H2L2 (2)) have been prepared from the dimer [{(η6-p-cymene)OsCl}2(μ-Cl)2] and H2L in the presence of NaSbF6. Treatment of complex 2 with HCl renders the phosphano-guanidinium complex [(η6-p-cymene)OsCl2(H3L2)][SbF6] (3). Compounds 1 and 2 react with AgSbF6 rendering the cationic aqua complexes [(η6-p-cymene)Os(H2L)(OH2)][SbF6]2 (H2L = H2L1 (4), H2L2 (5)). Addition of monodentate ligands L to compound 4 affords complexes of formula [(η6-p-cymene)Os(H2L1)L][SbF6]2 (L = py (6), 4-(NHMe)py (7), CO (8), P(OMe)3 (9)). Treatment of complexes 4 and 5 with NaHCO3 renders the monocationic complexes [(η6-p-cymene)Os(κ3N,N',N''-HL1)][SbF6] (10) and [(η6-p-cymene)Os(κ3N,N',P-HL2)][SbF6] (11), respectively, in which the HL ligand adopts a fac-κ3 coordination mode. The new complexes have been characterised by analytical and spectroscopic means, including the determination of the crystal structures of the compounds 1-4, 6, 8, and 11, by X-ray diffractometric methods. The phosphano-guanidino complexes 2 and 5 exhibit a temperature dependent fluxional process in solution. The new 18 electron complexes 1, 2, 6, and 8-10 are active catalysts for the Friedel-Crafts reaction between trans-β-nitrostyrene and N-methyl-2-methylindole. Conversions greater than 90% were obtained. Proton NMR studies support a mechanism involving the Brønsted-acid activation of trans-β-nitrostyrene through the NH functionalities of the coordinated guanidine ligands.

Abstract
Comparative studies of the synthesis of lithium guanidinates via nucleophilic addition of lithium amides to carbodiimides were performed. Four combinations of small or sterically crowded carbodiimide and sterically crowded lithium amide or lithium amide containing an adjacent amino donor group give ten different types of complexes. In particular, 2,6-[(CH3)2CH]2C6H3NHLi (DipNHLi, 1) reacts with (CH3)2CHN═C═NCH(CH3)2 upon the formation of the dissymmetric dimeric complex 2 with four-coordinate Li atoms. In contrast, 1 with DipN═C═NDip gives the mononuclear lithium guanidinate 3 with two-coordinate lithium by κ1-guanidinate, solvent molecule, and additional interaction with a π-electron cloud of one of the Dip groups. Analogous reactions of 2-[(CH3)2NCH2]C6H4NHLi (7) yield complexes 8 and 9, where the adjacent amino donors are always coordinated. Further deprotonation of 2, 3, 8, and 9 leads to dilithium guanidinates(2-)-4, 5, 10, and 11, among which only 5, containing three Dip groups, is monomeric with contacts to two π-electron systems of Dip groups. The rest of the complexes are tetranuclear with different structural patterns. In the central parts of molecules, toward which the nitrogen atoms of the guanidinates are oriented, lithium atoms are usually pseudotetrahedral, but trigonal in peripheral parts. Adjacent solvent molecules, chelating amino groups, and π-electron systems of Dip groups are coordinated in order to complete coordination polyhedra. Complexes 4 and 5 deoligomerize in solution upon the formation of fluxional monomeric dilithium species. Conversely, 11 is a dimer in solution due to the strong donation of an amino group. The silylated lithium amide {2-[(CH3)2NCH2]C6H4}[(Si(CH3)3]NLi (12) reacts with both carbodiimides to give dinuclear 13 obtained from diisopropylcarbodiimide and monomeric 14 from the second carbodiimide. Complexes 13 and 14 structurally resemble 8 and 9, with the highest degree of the localization of π-electron density within the N3C guanidinate system, η3-contact to the Dip ring, and a lack of the solvent molecule in 14.

Abstract
Tetra-aryl-substituted symmetrical conjugated bis-guanidine (CBG) ligands such as L1-3 (3H) [L(3H) = {(ArHN)(ArHN)C═N-C═NAr(NHAr)}; Ar = 2,6-Me2-C6H3 (L1(3H)), 2,6-Et2-C6H3 (L2(3H)), and 2,6-iPr2-C6H3 (L3(3H))] have been employed to synthesize a series of four- and six-membered aluminum heterocycles (1-8) for the first time. Generally, aluminum complexes bearing N,N'- chelated guanidinate and β-diketiminate/dipyrromethene ligand systems form four- and six-membered heterocycles, respectively. However, the conjugated bis-guanidine ligand has the capability of forming both four- and six-membered heterocycles possessing multimetal centers within the same molecule; this is due to the presence of three acidic protons, which can be easily deprotonated (at least two protons) upon treatment with metal reagents. Both mono- and dinuclear aluminum alkyls and mononuclear aluminum alkoxide, halide, and hydride complexes have been structurally characterized. Further, we have demonstrated the potential of mononuclear, six-membered CBG aluminum dialkyls in catalytic hydroboration of a broad range of aldehydes and ketones with pinacolborane (HBpin).

Abstract
Synthesis and reactivity of enantiopure iminophosphonamide ligand L-H (L = [Ph2P{N(R)CH(CH3)Ph}2]) with group 13 metal compounds has been investigated. The reaction of L-H with LiAlH4 afforded the aluminium monohydride complex [L2AlH]. The monochloride complexes [L2MCl] (M = Al, Ga) were accessed by reacting corresponding MCl3 (M = Al, Ga) with L-Li. Furthermore, the tetracoordinated aluminium cation [L2Al]+[GaCl4]- and gallium cation [L2Ga]+[AlCl4]- were obtained by chloride abstraction from [L2MCl] (M = Al, Ga), respectively. The title complexes represent the first examples of enantiopure group 13 metal complexes coordinated by chiral iminophosphonamides. All complexes have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, multinuclear NMR, EA and IR studies.

Abstract
![]()
Direct
synthetic routes to amidines are desired, as they are widely
present in many biologically active compounds and organometallic complexes. N-Acyl amidines in particular can be used as a starting
material for the synthesis of heterocycles and have several other
applications. Here, we describe a fast and practical copper-catalyzed
three-component reaction of aryl acetylenes, amines, and easily accessible
1,4,2-dioxazol-5-ones to N-acyl amidines, generating
CO2 as the only byproduct. Transformation of the dioxazolones
on the Cu catalyst generates acyl nitrenes that rapidly insert into
the copper acetylide Cu–C bond rather than undergoing an undesired
Curtius rearrangement. For nonaromatic dioxazolones, [Cu(OAc)(Xantphos)]
is a superior catalyst for this transformation, leading to full substrate
conversion within 10 min. For the direct synthesis of N-benzoyl amidine derivatives from aromatic dioxazolones, [Cu(OAc)(Xantphos)]
proved to be inactive, but moderate to good yields were obtained when
using simple copper(I) iodide (CuI) as the catalyst. Mechanistic studies
revealed the aerobic instability of one of the intermediates at low
catalyst loadings, but the reaction could still be performed in air
for most substrates when using catalyst loadings of 5 mol %. The herein
reported procedure not only provides a new, practical, and direct
route to N-acyl amidines but also represents a new
type of C–N bond formation.

Abstract
A novel tandem catalysis system consisted of salicylaldiminato binuclear/mononuclear titanium and 2,6-bis(imino)pyridyl iron complexes was developed to catalyze ethylene in-situ copolymerization. Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) with varying molecular weight and branching degree was successfully prepared with ethylene as the sole monomer feed. The polymerization conditions, including the reaction temperature, the Fi/Ti molar ratio, and the structures of bi- or mononuclear Ti complexes were found to greatly influence the catalytic performances and the properties of obtained polymers. The polymers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), high temperature gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and high temperature 13C NMR spectroscopy, and found to contain ethyl, butyl, as well as some longer branches. The binuclear titanium complexes demonstrated excellent catalytic activity (up to 8.95 × 106 g/molTi·h·atm) and showed a strong positive comonomer effect when combined with the bisiminopyridyl Fe complex. The branching degree can be tuned from 2.53 to 22.89/1000C by changing the reaction conditions or using different copolymerization pre-catalysts. The melting points, crystallinity and molecular weights of the products can also be modified accordingly. The binuclear complex Ti2L1 with methylthio sidearm showed higher capability for comonomer incorporation and produced polymers with higher branching degree and much higher molecular weight compared with the mononuclear analogue.

Abstract
Alkali metal complexes of an enantiopure iminophosphonamide bearing chiral centers at both nitrogen atoms are described. They show bright phosphorescence and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF).
The enantiomerically pure ligand P,P-diphenyl-N,N′-bis((R)-1-phenylethyl)phosphinimidic amide (1; (R)-HPEPIA) was synthesized and subsequently deprotonated with alkali metal precursors to yield dimeric complexes [M2{(R)-PEPIA}2] (M = Li (2), Na (3), K (4), Rb (5)). The cesium compound [M{(R)-PEPIA}] (6) crystallized as a cocrystal composed of dimeric ([Cs2{(R)-PEPIA}2] (6d) and 1D-polymeric ([Cs{(R)-PEPIA}]n) (6p) species in a 1 : 1 ratio. The coordination polymer 6p features a unique sinus-shaped configuration of repeating –Cs–N–P–N–Cs–N–P–N– units. Unusual photoluminescence (PL) properties were found for solid 1–6: in contrast to the fluorescent ligand 1, the alkali metal complexes show phosphorescence at low temperatures (<100 K) and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) above ∼150 K. The latter provides for PL quantum yields up to 36% (3) at ambient temperature. DFT calculations support that both 1 and 2–6d have similar singlet and triplet excited states with energy separations of a few tens of meV. The strongly enhanced intersystem crossing (ISC) in the metal complexes, resulting in TADF, is attributed to their dimeric structure. This suggests that the fluorophore dimerization may serve as a tool to effect ISC for the design of TADF emitters.

Abstract
The first potassium amidino-guanidinate complex, catena-poly[[bis-(μ-1-amidinato-N,N',N'',N'''-tetra-iso-propyl-guanidinato-κ5 N 1:N 1,N 2:N 2,N 4)dipotassium]-μ-1,2-di-meth-oxy-ethane-κ2 O:O'], [K2(C14H32N4)2(C4H10O2)] n or [{ i PrN= CHN( i Pr)N(N i Pr)2K}2(μ-DME)] n where DME is 1,2-di-meth-oxy-ethane, has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The title compound was isolated in 76% yield from a reaction of N,N'-diiso-propyl-carbodi-imide with potassium hydride in DME. The single-crystal X-ray structure determination of the title compound revealed a polymeric chain structure comprising cage-like dimeric units, with the amidino-guanidinate ligand displaying a mixed σ-/π-coordination mode.

Abstract
Deliberate hydrolysis of lithium cyclo-propyl-alkynylamidinates, Li[c-C3H5-C≡C(NR')2] [R' = i Pr, Cy = cyclo-hex-yl)], afforded the hitherto unknown neutral cyclo-propyl-alkynyl-amidine derivatives c-C3H5-C≡C-C(NR')(NHR') [R' = i Pr (1), Cy (2)]. Subsequent reactions of 1 or 2 with metal(II) chlorides, MCl2 (M = Mn, Fe, Co), provided the title complexes di-chlorido-bis-(3-cyclo-propyl-N,N'-diisopropyl-prop-2-ynamidine)-manganese(II), [MnCl2(C12H20N2)2], (3), di-chlorido-bis-(3-cyclo-propyl-N,N'-diisopropyl-prop-2-ynamidine)-iron(II), [FeCl2(C12H20N2)2], (4), di-chlorido-bis-(N,N'-di-cyclo-hexyl-3-cyclo-propyl-prop-2-ynamidine)-iron(II), [FeCl2(C18H28N2)2], (5), and di-chlorido-bis-(N,N'-di-cyclo-hexyl-3-cyclo-propyl-prop-2-ynamidine)-cobalt(II), [CoCl2(C18H28N2)2], (6), or more generally MCl2[c-C3H5-C≡C-C(NR')(NHR')]2 [R' = i Pr, M = Mn (3), Fe (4); R' = Cy, M = Fe (5), Co (6)] in moderate yields (30-39%). Besides their spectroscopic data (IR and MS) and elemental analyses, all complexes 3-6 were structurally characterized. The two isopropyl-substituted complexes 3 and 4 are isotypic, and so are the cyclo-hexyl-substituted complexes 5 and 6. In all cases, the central metal atom is coordinated by two Cl atoms and two N atoms in a distorted-tetra-hedral fashion, and the structure is supported by intra-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.

Selective Three-Component Coupling for CO 2 Chemical Fixation to Boron Guanidinato Compounds. Inorg Chem 2018; 57:8404-8413. Abstract
A selective three-component coupling was employed to fix carbon dioxide to boron guanidinato compounds. The one-pot reaction of carbon dioxide, carbodiimides, and borylamines (ArNH)BC8H14 afforded the corresponding 1,2-adducts {R(H)N}C{N(Ar)}(NR)(CO2)BC8H14. Alternatively, the reaction with p-MeOC6H4NC or 2,6-Me2C6H3NC gave the corresponding isocyanide 1,1-adducts { i-PrHN}C{N(p-Me-C6H4)}(N i-Pr){CNAr}BC8H14. The molecular structures of products (2,6- i-Pr2C6H3NH)BC8H14 7, { i-Pr(H)N}C{N(p-MeC6H4)}(N i-Pr)(CO2)BC8H14 9, {Cy(H)N}C{N( p-MeC6H4)}(Cy)(CO2)BC8H14 13, and { i-PrHN}C{N( p-MeC6H4)}(N i-Pr){CNR″}BC8H14 (R″ = p-MeOC6H4, 2,6-Me2C6H3) 14 and 15 were established by X-ray diffraction. Density functional theory calculations at the M05-2X level of theory revealed that CO2 fixation and formation of the corresponding adduct is exothermic and proceeds via a nonchelate boron guanidinato intermediate.

Abstract
The reaction of the lithium salt of N,N'-di-tert-butyldiimidosulfinate ([PhS(NtBu)2]Li) having a phenyl group on the sulphur atom with ECl2·(dioxane) (E = Ge, Sn) afforded the corresponding chlorogermylene [PhS(NtBu)2]GeCl 1 and -stannylene [PhS(NtBu)2]SnCl 2, respectively. In contrast, treatment of the N,N'-bis(trimethylsilyl)diimidosulfinate ion ([PhS(NSiMe3)2]-) with ECl2·(dioxane) resulted in the unexpected formations of six-membered 1,3-bis(chlorogermylene) [PhS(NSiMe3)2(η1-η1-GeCl)2[μ-NSPh(NHSiMe3)] 7 and -stannylene [PhS(NSiMe3)2(η1-η1-SnCl)2[μ-NSPh(NHSiMe3)] 8. The structures of these chlorometallylene derivatives were fully characterized on the basis of their NMR spectroscopic data and X-ray diffraction. In the crystalline states of 1 and 2, the diimidosulfinate ligands chelate to the metal centre to form slightly hinged four-membered EN2S rings. On the other hand, X-ray analyses of 7 and 8 revealed that the central six-membered E2N3S rings adopt a distorted boat-conformation, and one diimidosulfinate ligand coordinates to the metal centre in a bridging monodentate μ-η1-η1-fashion. As the reactivity of 1 and 2, the oxidation of 1 with elemental chalcogen (S8 or Se) afforded the corresponding tetra-coordinated germanium compounds [PhS(NtBu)2]Ge([double bond, length as m-dash]Ch)Cl 3 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]S) and 4 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]Se). In sharp contrast, the reactions of 2 with elemental chalcogen resulted in the formation of four-membered Sn2Ch2 ring compounds, 1,3,2,4-dichalcogenadistannetanes {(PhS(NtBu)2)SnCl(μ-Ch)}25 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]S) and 6 (Ch[double bond, length as m-dash]Se).
