Abstract
Nitrogen-containing heterocycles constitute an important division of organic chemistry. The structural and functional diversity in nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds emanates from the presence and nature of the heteroatom that optimizes the compound for a specific application. Nitrogen heterocycles have been found to mimic various endogenous metabolites and natural products, highlighting their pivotal role in current drug design. Their applications are manifold and are predominantly used as pharmaceuticals, corrosion inhibitors, polymers, agrochemicals, dyes, developers, etc. Additionally, their catalytic behavior has rendered these compounds notable precursors in synthesizing various important organic compounds. The rate at which nitrogen heterocycles are synthesized explains this organic chemistry domain's vitality and usefulness. The present review article focuses on nitrogen-containing heterocycles as a versatile scaffold for current applications of organic chemistry.

Abstract
3-(1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorooctyl)-1-vinylimidazolium chloride [2126844–17–3], a strong fluorosurfactant with remarkably high solubility in water, was expediently converted into the respective doubly NHC-complexed silver salt with nitrate as counter ion in quantitative yield. Due to its vinyl substituents, [bis(3-(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl)-1-vinylimidazol-2-ylidene)silver(I)] nitrate, Ag(FNHC)2NO3, represents a polymerizable N-heterocyclic carbene transfer reagent, thus potentially offering simple and robust access to coordination polymers with crosslinking metal bridges. The compound was characterized by infrared and NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry as well as elemental analysis, and supplemented by X-ray single-crystal structure determination. It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system in the space group P21/c. With 173.3°, the geometry of the Ag-carbene bridge deviates slightly from linearity. The disordered perfluoroalkyl side chains exhibit a helical conformation.

Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are applied widely in organic catalysis; however, no precedent has been reported in polymerization catalysis. Herein, we report the new application of COFs for polymerization catalysis. Different amounts of homogeneous Rh catalyst are incorporated into the COF via post-treatment to give a series of TPB-DMTP-COF-X wt % Rh (b-e) containing varying amounts of Rh from 2.74 to 11.38 wt %. In contrast to the known Rh catalysts, TPB-DMTP-COF-X wt % Rh (b-e) display an uncommon synergistic effect and exceptional steric confinement effect of nanochannels. Therefore, they possess the advantages of both homogeneous catalysts in high activity and selectivity and heterogeneous catalysts in stability and recyclability with extremely high activity up to 1.3 × 107 g·molRh-1·h-1 and cis-selectivity up to 99% and can be readily recycled and reused five times in the polymerization of phenylacetylene and its derivatives, affording cis-transoidal polyphenylacetylene and its derivatives having helical structures, aggregation-induced emission properties, or fluorescence properties with narrow molecular weight distributions.

Abstract
Lipidic cubic phases (LCPs) can reduce Pd2+ salts to palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) of ∼5 nm size in their confined water channels under mild conditions. The resulting PdNP-containing LCPs were used as nanoreactor scaffolds to catalyze Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions in the aqueous channels of the mesophase. To turn on catalysis, PdNP-containing LCPs were activated by swelling the aqueous channels of the lipidic framework, thereby enabling diffusion of the water-soluble substrates to the catalysts. The mesophases play a threefold role: they act as reducing agents for Pd2+, as limiting templates for their growth, and as support. The system was characterized and investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), cryo-transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and nuclear magnetic resonance. Bulk LCPs and three dispersed palladium/lipid hybrid nanoparticle types were applied in the catalysis. The latter-liposomes, hexosomes, and cubosomes-can be obtained by design through combination of lipids and additives. The Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of 5-iodo-2'-deoxyuridine and phenylboronic acid was used as a model reaction to study these systems. Bulk Pd-LCPs deliver the Suzuki-Miyaura product in 24 h in conversions up to 98% at room temperature, whereas with palladium/lipid dispersions at 40 °C, 68% of the starting material was transformed to the product after 72 h.

Abstract
In this work, synthesis of Pd–NHC-γ-Fe2O3-n-butyl-SO3H and its activity as a bifunctional heterogeneous nanocatalyst containing Pd–NHC and acidic functional groups, are described. This newly synthesized nanomagnetic catalyst is fully characterized by different methods such as FT-IR, XPS, TEM, VSM, ICP and TG analysis. At first, the catalytic activity of Pd–NHC-γ-Fe2O3-n-butyl-SO3H is evaluated for the reduction of nitroarenes in aqueous media using NaBH4 as a clean source of hydrogen generation at ambient temperature. Using the promising results obtained from the nitroarene reduction, this catalytic system is used for two one-pot protocols including reduction-Schiff base condensation and reduction–carbonylation of various nitroarenes. In these reactions the in situ formed amines are further reacted with aldehydes to yield imines or carbonylated to amides. The desired products are obtained in good to high yields in the presence of Pd–NHC-γ-Fe2O3-n-butyl-SO3H as a bifunctional catalyst. The catalyst is reused with the aid of a magnetic bar for up to six consecutive cycles without any drastic loss of its catalytic activity. This paper presents synthesis of Pd–NHC-γ-Fe2O3-n-butyl-SO3H and its activity as bifunctional heterogeneous nanocatalyst containing Pd–NHC and acidic functional groups.![]()

Abstract
A series of palladium acyclic diaminocarbene (ADC) complexes of the type cis-[(R1NH)(R2)methylidene]PdCl2(CNR1) [R1 = 2,4,6-(CH3)3C6H2: R2 = NC5H10 (2); NC4H8 (3); NC4H8O (4)] were used not only to perform the Csp2 -Csp Hiyama coupling between aryl iodide and triethoxysilylalkynes but also to subsequently carry out the one-pot tandem Hiyama alkynylation/cyclization reaction between 2-iodophenol and triethoxysilylalkynes, giving a convenient time-efficient access to the biologically relevant benzofuran compounds. The palladium ADC complexes (2-4) were conveniently synthesized by the nucleophilic addition of secondary amines, namely, piperidine, pyrrolidine, and morpholine on the cis-{(2,4,6-(CH3)3C6H2)NC}2PdCl2 in moderate yields (ca. 61-66%).

Abstract
In this contribution, a series of sterically-encumbered coumarin substituted benzimidazole-based N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors (1-12) and their silver(I)-NHC complexes (13-24) are reported. Molecular structure of NHC precursors 8 and 12 and cationic complexes 15 and 16 was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The silver(I) complexes demonstrated various significant intramolecular agostic-like interactions operating between the metal center and the hydrogen atoms of the substituents alongside a variety of feeble π-π stacking interactions. A distorted linear coordination geometry is documented at the silver(I) center with the anti-arrangement of the ligands. Further, the complexes demonstrated promising antibacterial properties against Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial strains, especially complex 18 displayed a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 2 and 4 μg/mL against S. aureus and E. coli, and P. aeruginosa, respectively. Furthermore, complexes 14, 15, 16 and 18 were found cytotoxic against the human lung cancer cell lines A549 and H1975 with the IC50 (concentration of the test sample required to kill 50% of the cell population) value under 10 μM, while mono-NHC complex 20 displayed a potential drug window with the IC50 of 13.7 ± 2.70 and 14.5 ± 1.20 μM against the cancer cell lines H1975 and A549, respectively. Notably, these complexes displayed relatively lesser cytotoxic behaviour against the normal skin fibroblast cell line, Hs68. All the NHC precursors displayed significantly lower biological activities compared with their respective complexes, indicating the utility of silver(I) ions in antimicrobial and antilung cancer applications.

Abstract
AbstractSilver(I)-N-heterocyclic carbene (Ag(I)-NHC) complexes of mononuclear and binuclear species, synthesised by our group and others in recent years, offer a fascinating outlook on their bioactivity. These complexes advance a range of adaptable structural patterns, leading to intra-specific variation in anticancer and antimicrobial activities. This study therefore reviews the synthesis, structural analysis and bioactivity of Ag complexes derived from mononuclear-NHC complexes either with coordinating or non-coordinating anions and binuclear NHC complexes. Specifically, the effect of stability, chain lengths and lipophilicity on the biological activity of recently reported Ag(I)-NHC complexes is reviewed. These complexes can be further explored as novel antibacterial and anticancer drugs in the nearest future.
