Abstract
Dipolar aprotic and ethereal solvents comprise just over 40% of all organic solvents utilized in synthetic organic, medicinal, and process chemistry. Unfortunately, many of the common "go-to" solvents are considered to be "less-preferable" for a number of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) reasons such as toxicity, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, or for practical handling reasons such as flammability and volatility. Recent legislative changes have initiated the implementation of restrictions on the use of many of the commonly employed dipolar aprotic solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF) and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone (NMP), and for ethers such as 1,4-dioxane. Thus, with growing legislative, EHS, and societal pressures, the need to identify and implement the use of alternative solvents that are greener, safer, and more sustainable has never been greater. Within this review, the ubiquitous nature of dipolar aprotic and ethereal solvents is discussed with respect to the physicochemical properties that have made them so appealing to synthetic chemists. An overview of the current legislative restrictions being imposed on the use of dipolar aprotic and ethereal solvents is discussed. A variety of alternative, safer, and more sustainable solvents that have garnered attention over the past decade are then examined, and case studies and examples where less-preferable solvents have been successfully replaced with a safer and more sustainable alternative are highlighted. Finally, a general overview and guidance for solvent selection and replacement are included in the Supporting Information of this review.

Abstract
A new arylene ethynylene macrocycle (AEM) molecule bearing endo-acetamide groups was obtained by a Pd/Cu mediated homo-coupling reaction. Introducing tetraethylene glycol ether as a linkage between two C-shaped fragments substantially improved the final cyclization yield (30%). Concentration-dependent 1HNMR experiments indicated that strong aggregates formed through H-bonds were observed for this new macrocycle with amide groups in solution. And also, this macrocycle was fluorescent in solution and showed a highly selective fluorescence quenching response toward the highly toxic Hg2+. More importantly, this macrocycle could induce gelation of several solvents. Significantly, an interesting aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE) behavior was observed for this macrocycle upon gelation. Both SEM and TEM investigations revealed that nanoporous structures existed in the xerogels. This study offers a new molecular design approach to develop fluorescent gels from planar AEM molecules with a functional cavity.

Abstract
A new method for the repetitive batch silylative coupling (trans-silylation) of vinylsilanes with vinyl boronates in the presence of Ru(CO)Cl(H)(PCy3)2 immobilized in poly(ethylene glycols) (PEGs) has been developed. Three PEGs (PEG600, PEG2000, and MPEG2000) with different molecular weights and end groups (MW = 600-2000) were tested as solvents and immobilization media, while an aliphatic solvent (n-hexane or n-heptane) or supercritical CO2 was used for product extraction. By applying 2 mol % of the Ru-H catalyst, it was possible to carry out up to 15 complete runs, with the predominant formation of 1-boryl-1-silylethenes. This immobilization strategy permitted for catalyst reuse and obtaining higher TON values (approximately 660-734) compared to the reaction in conventional solvents (∼50). Detailed kinetic studies of the most effective catalytic system were performed to determine catalyst activity and stability. Moreover, the reactions were carried out in an MPEG2000/scCO2 biphasic system, positively influencing the process sustainability.

Abstract
Silver (Ag), gold (Au), and copper (Cu) have been utilized as metals for fabricating metal-based inks/pastes for printed/flexible electronics. Among them, Cu is the most promising candidate for metal-based inks/pastes. Cu has high intrinsic electrical/thermal conductivity, which is more cost-effective and abundant, as compared to Ag. Moreover, the migration tendency of Cu is less than that of Ag. Thus, recently, Cu-based inks/pastes have gained increasing attention as conductive inks/pastes for printed/flexible electronics. However, the disadvantages of Cu-based inks/pastes are their instability against oxidation under an ambient condition and tendency to form insulating layers of Cu oxide, such as cuprous oxide (Cu2O) and cupric oxide (CuO). The formation of the Cu oxidation causes a low conductivity in sintered Cu films and interferes with the sintering of Cu particles. In this review, we summarize the surface and interface designs for Cu-based conductive inks/pastes, in which the strategies for the oxidation resistance of Cu and low-temperature sintering are applied to produce highly conductive Cu patterns/electrodes on flexible substrates. First, we classify the Cu-based inks/pastes and briefly describe the surface oxidation behaviors of Cu. Next, we describe various surface control approaches for Cu-based inks/pastes to achieve both the oxidation resistance and low-temperature sintering to produce highly conductive Cu patterns/electrodes on flexible substrates. These surface control approaches include surface designs by polymers, small ligands, core-shell structures, and surface activation. Recently developed Cu-based mixed inks/pastes are also described, and the synergy effect in the mixed inks/pastes offers improved performances compared with the single use of each component. Finally, we offer our perspectives on Cu-based inks/pastes for future efforts.

Abstract
The solvents used in chemistry are a fundamental element of the environmental performance of processes in corporate and academic laboratories. Their influence on costs, health safety, and nature cannot be neglected. Quantitatively, solvents are the most abundant constituents of chemical transformations; therefore, acting on solvents and replacing standard solvents with safer products can have a great ecological impact. However, not all green solvents are suitable for the wide scope of organic chemistry reactions. A second point to consider is that 50% of pharmaceutical drugs are nitrogen heterocycles compounds. It therefore appeared important to provide an overview of the more ecological methodologies for synthesizing this class of compounds. In this review, all publications since 2000 that describe green reactions leading to the formation of nitrogen heterocycles using safe solvents were considered. We chose water, PEG, and bio-based solvents for their negligible toxicity. The synthesis of five-, six-, and seven-membered aromatic nitrogen heterocycles using green reactions reported in the literature to date is described.

Abstract
AbstractSeveral types of ionic liquids (ILs) performance towards dimethyl carbonate (DMC) synthesis using cheap reactant (methanol) and waste CO2 which is abundantly available in the environment are discussed. We synthesized ILs with cheap raw materials such as ethylene glycol. The main aim of this study is to synthesize efficient catalysts for the production of profitable fuel additives. ILs show high thermal stability, less viscosity, and low vapor pressure. In addition, some ILs have high CO2 absorption capacity due to moderate acid-base properties. These ILs reversibly capture more CO2 which is more efficient towards mass transport of methanol at optimum reaction conditions which enhance the DMC yield. This catalytic system is easily reusable for several reactions without decreased performance under the same reaction conditions. These reaction conditions had an effect on the synthesis of DMC. Temperature, pressure, IL loading, and IL/DMAP ratio were fine tuned. We propose a mechanism which the reaction may follow. The synthesized ILs required moderate reaction conditions and reduce waste gases (CO2) from the environments as they have high CO2 absorption capacity compared to the metal oxide catalyst. Therefore, this catalytic system helps and gives new direction to synthesize new catalyst for other application.

Abstract
Homogeneous catalysts often show high activity and selectivity towards the various chemical transformations. Most of the transition metal-based active catalysts are expensive, rare, and have strict regulations for their use in pharmaceutical products. Hence, there is a requirement to develop suitable technologies for the practical separation and recycling of metal complex catalysts along with the sustainability of the process. This review focuses on the recent techniques used for the catalyst separation, their recovery, and recyclability of the homogeneous form of catalysts based on their economic compatibility and industrial applications. Various homogeneous catalysts have been reviewed on the basis of their support or media, active centres and recyclability aspects of the catalysts. This review gives brief insights into the varied examples of different recycling techniques utilized in the past 6-7 years.

Abstract
Whereas noble metal compounds have long been central in catalysis, Earth-abundant metal-based catalysts have in the same time remained undeveloped. Yet the efficacy of Earth-abundant metal catalysts was already shown at the very beginning of the 20th century with the Fe-catalyzed Haber-Bosch process of ammonia synthesis and later in the Fischer-Tropsch reaction. Nanoscience has revolutionized the world of catalysis since it was observed that very small Au nanoparticles (NPs) and other noble metal NPs are extraordinarily efficient. Therefore the development of Earth-abundant metals NPs is more recent, but it has appeared necessary due to their "greenness". This review highlights catalysis by NPs of Earth-abundant transition metals that include Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, early transition metals (Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb and W) and their nanocomposites with emphasis on basic principles and literature reported during the last 5 years. A very large spectrum of catalytic reactions has been successfully disclosed, and catalysis has been examined for each metal starting with zero-valent metal NPs followed by oxides and other nanocomposites. The last section highlights the catalytic activities of bi- and trimetallic NPs. Indeed this later family is very promising and simultaneously benefits from increased stability, efficiency and selectivity, compared to monometallic NPs, due to synergistic substrate activation.

Abstract
The mechanochemical preparation of highly functionalized 3,5-disubstituted hydantoins was investigated in the presence of various poly(ethylene) glycols (PEGs), as safe grinding assisting agents (liquid-assisted grinding, LAG). A comparative study under dry-grinding conditions was also performed. The results showed that the cyclization reaction was influenced by the amount of the PEG grinding agents. In general, cleaner reaction profiles were observed in the presence of PEGs, compared to dry-grinding procedures.

Abstract
A unique Ni-catalyzed transformation is reported for the one-pot highly selective synthesis of previously unknown monoseleno-substituted 1,3-dienes starting from easily available terminal alkynes and benzeneselenol. The combination of a readily available catalyst precursor, Ni(acac)2, and an appropriately tuned phosphine ligand, PPh2Cy, resulted in the exclusive assembly of the s-gauche diene skeleton via the selective formation of C-C and C-Se bonds. The unusual diene products were stable under regular experimental conditions, and the products maintained the s-gauche geometry both in the solid state and in solution, as confirmed by X-ray analysis and NMR spectroscopy. Thorough mechanistic studies using ESI-MS revealed the key Ni-containing species involved in the reaction.
