Abstract
Alcohol groups and β-O-4 (C-C) linkages are widespread in biomass feedstock that are abundant renewable resource for value-added chemicals. The development of sustainable protocols for direct oxidation or oxidative cleavage of feedstock materials in a controlled fashion, using open air as an oxidant is an intellectually stimulating task to produce industrially important value-added carbonyls. Further, the oxidative depolymerization of lignin into fine chemicals has evoked interest in recent times. Herein, we report the first example of a catalyst system that could activate molecular oxygen from atmospheric air for controlled oxidation and oxidative cleavage/depolymerization of feedstock materials such as alcohols, β-O-4 (C-C) linkages and real lignin in water under open air conditions. The selectivity of carbonyl products is controlled by altering the pH between ~7.0 and ~12.0. The current strategy highlights the non-involvement of any external co-catalyst, oxidant, radical additives, and/or destructive organic solvents. The catalyst shows a wide substrate scope and eminent functional group tolerance. The upscaled multigram synthesis using an inexpensive catalyst and easily available oxidant evidences the practical utility of the developed protocol. A plausible mechanism has been proposed with the help of a few controlled experiments, and kinetic and computational studies.

Abstract
Molybdenum dithiocarbamates (MDTCs) are indispensable lubricant additives. Although their role as antiwear agents is well established, they have also been attributed antioxidant properties that are not understood. MDTCs do not inhibit autoxidation, but they markedly enhance the capacity of diphenylamines (DPAs)─ubiquitous radical-trapping antioxidants (RTAs)─to do so. We find this synergy to be evident not only at elevated temperatures (160 °C in n-hexadecane) but also at moderate temperatures, where autoxidations can be continuously monitored and kinetics more easily interpreted (100 °C in squalane). Interestingly, the synergy disappeared in an unsaturated hydrocarbon (n-hexadec-1-ene), where the RTA activity of the DPA is known to result from the diarylnitroxide derived therefrom. Autoxidations of squalane carried out in the presence of the diarylnitroxide─wherein it is a poor inhibitor─were much better inhibited in the presence of MDTC, suggesting that it converts the nitroxide to (a) more competent RTA(s). Indeed, preparative experiments revealed two species: DPA and a DPA dimer into which a single oxygen atom had been incorporated. This conversion is accelerated by the oxidation of MDTC to a dioxo molybdenum species. A mechanism is proposed to account for these observations, and the implications of our findings and their interpretation are discussed.

Abstract
A newly binuclear nickel(II) complex, [Ni2(en)4(ox)](ClO4)2 (1) (where en = ethylenediamine, and ox = oxalate), has been isolated from a reaction of NiCl2·6H2O, ethylenediamine, ammonium oxalate and sodium perchlorate in water and its crystal structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography and infra-red techniques. Compound 1 was successfully employed to promote the one-pot reaction of aldehydes, amines and acetylenes for the construction of corresponding propargylamines under solvent-free media with fine yields. Further studies reveal this catalytic system can be refreshed and used again in five runs.

Abstract
Ordered periodic mesoporous organosilicas have been widely applied in adsorption/separation/sensor technologies and the fields of biomedicine/biotechnology as well as catalysis. Crucially, surface modification with functional groups and metal complexes or nanoparticle loading has ensured high efficacy and efficiency. This review will highlight the current state of design and catalytic application of transition metal-loaded mesoporous organosilica nanoreactors. It will outline prominent synthesis approaches for the grafting of metal complexes, metal salt adsorption and in situ preparation of metal nanoparticles, and summarize the catalytic performance of the resulting mesoporous organosilica hybrid materials. Finally, the potential prospects and challenges of metal-loaded mesoporous organosilica nanoreactors are addressed.

Abstract
Ionic oxidoperoxido-molybdenum(VI) complexes of the type [Cat][MoO(O2)2(pic)], with pic = N,O-chelated picolinate ligand and Cat = monocation, were prepared in high yields (82–95%) from the precursor complex [H3O][MoO(O2)2(pic)] via [H]+ cation exchange for 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium [EMIM]+, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium [BMIM]+, 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium [OMIM]+, N-cetylpyridinium [C16Py]+, and N-methyl-N,N,N-trioctylammonium [Aliquat]+. The structure and purity of the ionic compounds were assessed by 1H and 13C NMR, FT-IR, and elemental analysis (C, H, N), and the electrochemical properties were studied by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The [Cat][MoO(O2)2(pic)] compounds showed promising catalytic epoxidation activity based on the model reaction of cis-cyclooctene with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant. The type of cation influenced the physical state of the compound and the catalytic performance.

Abstract
Recently reported acetosolv soft- and hardwood lignins as well as ionosolv soft- and hardwood lignins were transformed into monomeric aromatic compounds using either a vanadate or a molybdate-based catalyst system. Monomers were generated with remarkable, catalyst-dependent selectivity and high depolymerisation yields via oxidative exo- and endo-depolymerisation processes. Using the vanadate–hydrogen peroxide system on acetosolv pine lignin, vanillin and isovanillin were produced as main products with depolymerisation yields of 31%. Using the molybdate system on acetosolv and ionosolv lignin, vanillic acid was the practically exclusive product, with depolymerisation yields of up to 72%. Similar selectivities, albeit with lower depolymerisation yields of around 50% under standardised conditions, were obtained for eucalyptus acetosolv lignin, producing vanillin and syringaldehyde or vanillic acid as products, by using the vanadate- or the molybdate-based systems respectively.

Abstract
Chiral alkyl aryl sulfoxides were obtained by molybdenum-catalyzed oxidation of alkyl aryl sulfides with hydrogen peroxide as oxidant in mild conditions with high yields and moderate enantioselectivities. The asymmetry is generated by the use of imidazolium-based dicarboxylic compounds, HLR. The in-situ-generated catalyst, a mixture of aqueous [Mo(O)(O₂)₂(H₂O)n] with HLR as chirality inductors, in the presence of [PPh₄]Br, was identified as the anionic binuclear complex [PPh₄]{[Mo(O)(O₂)₂(H₂O)]₂(μ-LR)}, according to spectroscopic data and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. A nonclassical hydrogen bond between one C⁻H bond of the alkyl R group of coordinated (LR)− and one oxygen atom of the peroxido ligand was identified as the interaction responsible for the asymmetry in the process. Additionally, the step that governs the enantioselectivity was theoretically analyzed by locating the transition states of the oxido-transfer to PhMeS of model complexes [Mo(O)(O₂)₂(H₂O)(κ¹-O-LR)]− (R = H, iPr). The ∆∆G≠ is ca. 0 kcal∙mol−1 for R = H, racemic sulfoxide, meanwhile for chiral species the ∆∆G≠ of ca. 2 kcal∙mol−1 favors the formation of (R)-sulfoxide.

Abstract
A novel methodology for the epoxidation of a broad range of primary, secondary, and tertiary allylic alcohols is described using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant and Ti(III) species generated by reduction of Ti(IV) complexes, with manganese (0) in 1,4-dioxane under mild reaction conditions. The reaction proceeded with wide substrate scope and high chemo- and diastereoselectivity. A mechanistic pathway for the reaction is also discussed.
