Platinum and palladium complexes with tetrazole ligands: Synthesis, structure and applications

Molybdenum trioxide as a newer diversified economic catalyst for the transformation of nitroarenes to arylamine and 5-substituted-1H-tetrazole

The present work has developed a straightforward, gentle, and effective approach for synthesizing arylamines and 5-substituted-1H-tetrazole derivatives, and among the two tested catalysts, molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) proved to be highly effective. The selective hydrogenation of nitroarenes to arylamines presents a significant challenge due to the complex reaction mechanism and the competitive hydrogenation of other reducible functional groups. It facilitated the transfer hydrogenation of nitrobenzene using hydrazine hydrate-produced amino compounds and enabled the [3 + 2] cycloaddition of sodium azide with aromatic nitriles to yield 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles. The structure of compound 5-(4-bromophenyl)-1H-tetrazole (5k) was verified through single-crystal X-ray analysis, and the calculation of Green Chemistry Metrics showed the optimal range. Notably, the MoO3 catalyst can be reutilized for up to seven cycles with minimal loss of effectiveness. These attributes make molybdenum trioxide particularly attractive for industrial applications. This methodology offers several advantages over traditional synthetic methods.

Catalytic Tetrazole Synthesis via [3+2] Cycloaddition of NaN3 to Organonitriles Promoted by Co(II)-complex: Isolation and Characterization of a Co(II)-diazido Intermediate

The [3+2] cycloaddition of sodium azide to nitriles to give 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles is efficiently catalyzed by a Cobalt(II) complex (1) with a tetradentate ligand N,N-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)quinolin-8-amine. Detailed mechanistic investigation shows the intermediacy of the cobalt(II) diazido complex (2), which has been isolated and structurally characterized. Complex 2 also shows good catalytic activity for the synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles. These are the first examples of cobalt complexes used for the [3+2] cycloaddition reaction for the synthesis of 1H-tetrazoles under homogeneous conditions.

Discrete Platinum(II/IV)-Arsenito Clusters with Pt-As and Pt-O Bonding: [PtIV(As3O6)2]2-, [Pt4II(H2AsO3)6(HAsO3)2]2-, and [Pt2IIAs6W4O28]10

The first two discrete, fully inorganic platinum(II/IV)-arsenito clusters, [fac-PtIV(As3O6)2]2- (PtAs6) and [Pt4II(H2AsO3)6(HAsO3)2]2- (Pt4As8), as well as the platinum(II)-arsenito heteropolytungstate [Pt2IIAs6W4O28]10- (Pt2As6W4), have been synthesized in aqueous media using simple one-pot reaction conditions. In PtAs6, a PtIV ion is coordinated to two cyclic, tridentate As3O6 units via oxo-donation (PtIV-O ∼ 2.02 Å). In Pt4As8, each PtII ion is coordinated to four AsO3 ligands via two oxygens and two AsIII atoms in a square-planar fashion (PtII-AsIII 2.31 Å, PtII-O 2.07 Å), resulting in an open cage-like structure, which forms a strong tetrameric assembly in the solid state mediated by two K+ counterions. In Pt2As6W4, each PtII ion is coordinated by the As atoms of three AsO3 ligands (PtII-AsIII 2.38 Å) and an oxo group (PtII-O 2.07 Å) in addition to bridging two tungsten ions, and this polyanion was characterized in solution by 195Pt NMR.

Nanomagnetic tetraaza (N4 donor) macrocyclic Schiff base complex of copper(ii): synthesis, characterizations, and its catalytic application in Click reactions

In this research, a novel nanomagnetic tetra-azamacrocyclic Schiff base complex of copper(ii) was produced via a post-synthetic surface modification of an Fe3O4 surface by a silane-coupling agent that contains acetylacetone functionalities at the end of its chain. Moreover, the target Cu complex that involves a tetradentate Schiff base ligand was obtained from a template reaction with o-phenylenediamine and Cu(NO3)2·3H2O. Furthermore, the prepared complex was nominated as [Fe3O4@TAM-Schiff-base-Cu(II)]. The Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis indicates the presence of a Schiff-base-Cu complex in the catalyst. X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and TGA analysis reveal that approximately 6-7% of the target catalyst comprises hydrocarbon moieties. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images demonstrate the presence of uniformly shaped particles, nearly spherical in nature, with sizes ranging from 9 to 18 nm. [Fe3O4@TAM-Schiff-base-Cu(II)] was applied as a catalyst for the click synthesis of a diverse range of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles in PEG-400 as a green medium. Regarding the electrical properties of the Cu(ii) complex, the presence of a tetra-aza (N4 donor) macrocyclic Schiff base as an N-rich ligand was reasonable - leading to its excellent capacity to catalyze these organic transformations. Finally, the high magnetization value (44.92 emu g-1) of [Fe3O4@TAM-Schiff-base-Cu(II)] enables its recycling at least four times without compromising the catalytic efficiency.

Organic Polymer Dots Photocatalyze CO2 Reduction in Aqueous Solution

Developing low-cost and efficient photocatalysts to convert CO2 into valuable fuels is desirable to realize a carbon-neutral society. In this work, we report that polymer dots (Pdots) of poly[(9,9'-dioctylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)-co-(1,4-benzo-thiadiazole)] (PFBT), without adding any extra co-catalyst, can photocatalyze reduction of CO2 into CO in aqueous solution, rendering a CO production rate of 57 μmol g-1  h-1 with a detectable selectivity of up to 100 %. After 5 cycles of CO2 re-purging experiments, no distinct decline in CO amount and reaction rate was observed, indicating the promising photocatalytic stability of PFBT Pdots in the photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction. A mechanistic study reveals that photoexcited PFBT Pdots are reduced by sacrificial donor first, then the reduced PFBT Pdots can bind CO2 and reduce it into CO via their intrinsic active sites. This work highlights the application of organic Pdots for CO2 reduction in aqueous solution, which therefore provides a strategy to develop highly efficient and environmentally friendly nanoparticulate photocatalysts for CO2 reduction.

Catalytic Enantioselective Construction of Chiral γ-Azido Nitriles through Nitrile Group-Promoted Electrophilic Reaction of Alkenes

An efficient approach for the construction of enantioenriched γ-azido nitriles through the chiral sulfide-catalyzed asymmetric electrophilic thioazidation of allylic nitriles is disclosed. A wide range of electron-deficient and -rich aryl, heterocyclic aryl, and alkyl substituents are suitable on the substrates of allylic nitriles. The regio-, enantio-, and diastereoselectivities of the reactions are excellent. As versatile platform molecules, the obtained chiral γ-azido nitriles can be easily converted into high-value-added chiral molecules that are not easily accessed by other methods. Control experiments revealed that the allylic nitrile group is important for control of the reactivity and enantioselectivity of the reaction leading to a broad substrate scope.

Modified chitosan-zeolite supported Pd nanoparticles: A reusable catalyst for the synthesis of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles from aryl halides

A novel heterogeneous catalyst has been developed using chitosan-zeolite supported Pd nanoparticles (PdNPs@CS-Zeo) and used in an efficient synthesis of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles from aryl halides with high yields for relatively short reaction times with an easy work-up procedure. In this method, highly effective and reusable PdNPs@CS-Zeo catalyst was used in the reaction of various aryl iodides/bromides with K₄[Fe(CN)₆] as a non-toxic cyanide source to catalyze the [2 + 3] cycloaddition of the corresponding aryl nitriles with NaN₃ in the sequential one-pot preparation of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles. The synthesized PdNPs@CS-Zeo nanocatalyst was characterized using XRD, FTIR, TEM, HRTEM, XPS, Raman, TG-DTG, ICP-OES, BET, and EDS mapping. Additionally, the nanocatalyst could be effectively separated by filtration and reused for multiple times without significant decrease of catalytic activity.

In vitro cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity of [Pd(AMTTO)(PPh3)2]: a novel promising palladium(ii) complex

The synthesis and characterization of a novel palladium complex based on a bioactive 3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazine derivative have been investigated. The Pd(ii) complex showed excellent anticancer and antibacterial activity.

Synthesis and Structural Characterization of Palladium(II) Mixed-Ligand Complexes of N-(Benzothiazol-2-yl)benzamide and 1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane

Three novel palladium(II) mixed-ligand complexes of N-(benzothiazol-2-yl)benzamide (HL) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (dppe), [Pd(HL)(dppe)]Cl₂ (1), [Pd(L)(dppe)]Cl (2), and [Pd(L)₂(dppe)] (3), were synthesized and fully characterized using Fourier transform infrared, ¹H, ¹³C, and ³¹P NMR, and molar conductivity measurements. Complex 3 was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The ligand HL showed three different coordination modes: a neutral bidentate chelate bound through the endocyclic nitrogen and exocyclic oxygen atoms in 1, a negatively charged L bound as a bidentate chelate through the endocyclic nitrogen and negatively charged exocyclic oxygen atoms in 2, and a monodentate bound through the negatively charged endocyclic nitrogen atom in 3.
