3D visualization and printing: An "Anatomical Engineering" trend revealing underlying morphology via innovation and reconstruction towards future of veterinary anatomy

The amalgamation of veterinary anatomy, technology and innovation has led to development of latest technological advancement in the field of veterinary medicine, i.e., three-dimensional (3D) imaging and reconstruction. 3D visualization technique followed by 3D reconstruction has been proven to enhance non-destructive 3D visualization grossly or microscopically, e.g., skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, ligaments, cartilage, connective tissue, blood vessels, nerves, lymph nodes, and glands. The core aim of this manuscript is to document non-invasive 3D visualization methods being adopted currently in veterinary anatomy to reveal underlying morphology and to reconstruct them by 3D softwares followed by printing, its applications, current challenges, trends and future opportunities. 3D visualization methods such as MRI, CT scans and micro-CT scans are utilised in revealing volumetric data and underlying morphology at microscopic levels as well. This will pave a way to transform and re-invent the future of teaching in veterinary medicine, in clinical cases as well as in exploring wildlife anatomy. This review provides novel insights into 3D visualization and printing as it is the future of veterinary anatomy, thus making it spread to become the plethora of opportunities for whole veterinary science.

A 3D Printer Guide for the Development and Application of Electrochemical Cells and Devices

3D printing is a type of additive manufacturing (AM), a technology that is on the rise and works by building parts in three dimensions by the deposit of raw material layer upon layer. In this review, we explore the use of 3D printers to prototype electrochemical cells and devices for various applications within chemistry. Recent publications reporting the use of Fused Deposition Modelling (fused deposition modeling®) technique will be mostly covered, besides papers about the application of other different types of 3D printing, highlighting the advances in the technology for promising applications in the near future. Different from the previous reviews in the area that focused on 3D printing for electrochemical applications, this review also aims to disseminate the benefits of using 3D printers for research at different levels as well as to guide researchers who want to start using this technology in their research laboratories. Moreover, we show the different designs already explored by different research groups illustrating the myriad of possibilities enabled by 3D printing.

Applications of 3D Bio-Printing in Tissue Engineering and Biomedicine

In recent years, 3D bio-printing technology has developed rapidly and become an advanced bio-manufacturing technology. At present, 3D bio-printing technology has been explored in the fields of tissue engineering, drug testing and screening, regenerative medicine and clinical disease research and has achieved many research results. Among them, the application of 3D bio-printing technology in tissue engineering has been widely concerned by researchers, and it contributing many breakthroughs in the preparation of tissue engineering scaffolds. In the future, it is possible to print fully functional tissues or organs by using 3D bio-printing technology which exhibiting great potential development prospects in th applications of organ transplantation and human body implants. It is expected to solve thebiomedical problems of organ shortage and repair of damaged tissues and organs. Besides,3Dbio-printing technology will benefit human beings in more fields. Therefore, this paper reviews the current applications, research progresses and limitations of 3D bio-printing technology in biomedical and life sciences, and discusses the main printing strategies of 3D bio-printing technology. And, the research emphases, possible development trends and suggestions of the application of 3D bio-printing are summarized to provide references for the application research of 3D bio-printing.

3D-printed microneedles in biomedical applications

Increasing the printing resolution, the accuracy of the features, and the accessibility of low-cost raw printing materials have empowered 3D printing to be utilized for the fabrication of microneedle platforms. The development of 3D-printed microneedles has enabled the evolution of pain-free controlled release drug delivery systems, devices for extracting fluids from the cutaneous tissue, biosignal acquisition, and point-of-care diagnostic devices in personalized medicine.

Impact of industry 4.0 to create advancements in orthopaedics

Scientists and health professional are focusing on improving the medical sciences for the betterment of patients. The fourth industrial revolution, which is commonly known as Industry 4.0, is a significant advancement in the field of engineering. Industry 4.0 is opening a new opportunity for digital manufacturing with greater flexibility and operational performance. This development is also going to have a positive impact in the field of orthopaedics. The purpose of this paper is to present various advancements in orthopaedics by the implementation of Industry 4.0. To undertake this study, we have studied the available literature extensively on Industry 4.0, technologies of Industry 4.0 and their role in orthopaedics. Paper briefly explains about Industry 4.0, identifies and discusses the major technologies of Industry 4.0, which will support development in orthopaedics. Finally, from the available literature, the paper identifies twelve significant advancements of Industry 4.0 in orthopaedics. Industry 4.0 uses various types of digital manufacturing and information technologies to create orthopaedics implants, patient-specific tools, devices and innovative way of treatment. This revolution is to be useful to perform better spinal surgery, knee and hip replacement, and invasive surgeries.
