Abstract
Immobilization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on electrospun products for wastewater treatment has garnered considerable attention in recent years. However, the effect of the overall geometry and surface-area-to-volume ratio of MOF-decorated electrospun architectures on their performances have rarely been investigated. Herein, we prepared polycaprolactone (PCL)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) strips with helicoidal geometries via immersion electrospinning. By regulating the weight ratio of PCL to PVP, the morphologies and surface-area-to-volume ratios of the PCL/PVP strips could be controlled precisely. Then, the zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) for removing methylene blue (MB) from an aqueous solution was immobilized on the electrospun strips, resulting in ZIF-8-decorated PCL/PVP strips. The key characteristics of these composite products, such as adsorption and photocatalytic degradation behavior toward MB in the aqueous solution, were carefully investigated. Owing to the desired overall geometry and high surface-area-to-volume ratio of the ZIF-8-decorated helicoidal strips, a high MB adsorption capacity of 151.6 mg g-1 was obtained, which is significantly higher than those with conventional electrospun straight fibers. In addition, higher MB uptake rates, higher recycling and kinetic adsorption efficiencies, higher MB photocatalytic degradation efficiencies, and faster MB photocatalytic degradation rates were confirmed. This work provides new insights to improve the performance of existing and potential electrospun product-based water treatment strategies.

Abstract
Textile industry is a significant contributor of wastewater, which contains pollutants including dye and other chemical substances. The release of thousands of tons of dye used in textile processing and finishing into natural streams and aquatic bodies present dire harm to the environment. In response to environmental concerns, a number of research have been done using low-cost technology to produce absorbents that can remove dyes from water bodies. Distinct techniques such as adsorption, enzymatic and photocatalytic degradation, etc. have been employed to remove dyes. In the last few decades, photocatalysis, a simple and green strategy, has emerged as the most valuable and recent principle that deals with wastewater treatment, using uniquely fabricated nanomaterials. Among them, rapid and versatile electrospinning methods have been used for the construction of a large surface area, hierarchical and reusable nanofibers for environmental remediation. As a flexible and fast fabrication method, reviewing the use of electrospun photocatalytic nanofibers, influential parameters in electrospinning and their effectiveness in the generation of oxidizing agents are a promising platform for the fabrication of novel nanomaterials in photocatalytic degradation of dyes. This review discusses techniques for dye removal, electrospun nanofibers, their fabrication and application in photocatalysis; mechanism of photocatalytic degradation, and challenges and suggested remedies for electrospun nanofibers in photocatalysis.

Abstract
The physical properties of porous silica nanofibers are an important factor that impacts their performance in various applications. In this study, porous silica nanofibers were produced via solution blow spinning (SBS) from a silica precursor/polymer solution. Two polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP, Mw = 360,000 and 1,300,000) were chosen as spinning aids in order to create different pore properties. The effect of their physical properties on the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) in an aqueous solution was explored. After forming, the nanofibers were calcined to remove the organic phase and create pores. The calcined nanofibers had a large amount of micro and mesopores without the use of additional surfactants. The molecular weight of the PVP impacted the growth of silica particles and consequently the pore size. High Mw PVP inhibited the growth of silica particles, resulting in a large volume of micropores. On the other hand, silica nanofibers with a high fraction of mesopores were obtained using the lower Mw PVP. These results demonstrate a simple method of producing blow spun silica nanofibers with defined variations of pore sizes by varying only the molecular weight of the PVP. In the adsorption process, the accessible mesopores improved the adsorption performance of large MB molecules.

Abstract
In biotechnology, the field of cell cultivation is highly relevant. Cultivated cells can be used, for example, for the development of biopharmaceuticals and in tissue engineering. Commonly, mammalian cells are grown in bioreactors, T-flasks, well plates, etc., without a specific substrate. Nanofibrous mats, however, have been reported to promote cell growth, adhesion, and proliferation. Here, we give an overview of the different attempts at cultivating mammalian cells on electrospun nanofiber mats for biotechnological and biomedical purposes. Starting with a brief overview of the different electrospinning methods, resulting in random or defined fiber orientations in the nanofiber mats, we describe the typical materials used in cell growth applications in biotechnology and tissue engineering. The influence of using different surface morphologies and polymers or polymer blends on the possible application of such nanofiber mats for tissue engineering and other biotechnological applications is discussed. Polymer blends, in particular, can often be used to reach the required combination of mechanical and biological properties, making such nanofiber mats highly suitable for tissue engineering and other biotechnological or biomedical cell growth applications.
