Abstract
Peracetic acid (PAA) has garnered significant attention as a novel disinfectant owing to its remarkable oxidative capacity and minimal potential to generate byproducts. In this study, we prepared a novel catalyst, denoted as cobalt modified nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (Co@N-CNTs), and evaluated it for PAA activation. Modification with cobalt nanoparticles (∼4.8 nm) changed the morphology and structure of the carbon nanotubes, and greatly improved their ability to activate PAA. Co@N-CNTs/PAA catalytic system shows outstanding catalytic degradation ability of antiviral drugs. Under neutral conditions, with a dosage of 0.05 g/L Co@N-CNT-9.8 and 0.25 mM PAA, the removal efficiency of acyclovir (ACV) reached 98.3% within a mere 10 min. The primary reactive species responsible for effective pollutant degradation were identified as acetylperoxyl radicals (CH3C(O)OO•) and acetyloxyl radicals (CH3C(O)O•). In addition, density functional theory (DFT) proved that Co nanoparticles, as the main catalytic sites, were more likely to adsorb PAA and transfer more electrons than N-doped graphene. This study explored the feasibility of PAA degradation of antiviral drugs in sewage, and provided new insights for the application of heterogeneous catalytic PAA in environmental remediation.

THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2024; 921:170877. Abstract
The recovery of metals from solid waste for use as heterogeneous catalysts to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for organic wastewater treatment is a promising, environmentally friendly and economical strategy. Herein, we present a facile and versatile strategy for upcycling copper (Cu) from waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) to Cu oxides supported on a three-dimensional carbon framework (10PCBs-Cu-TA) with the aid of tannic acid (TA). Compared to the PCBs-Cu synthesized without TA, introducing TA into 10PCBs-Cu-TA reduced Cu leaching, enhanced crystallinity, promoted electron transfer, and increased the number of oxygen vacancies. Moreover, 10PCBs-Cu-TA exhibited superior catalytic activity in activating PMS for the degradation of reactive brilliant blue KN-R, exceeding the activity of 10Cu-TA prepared using commercial Cu(NO3)2·3H2O. This enhanced performance may be attributed to the higher specific surface area and oxygen vacancies of 10PCBs-Cu-TA. The 10PCBs-Cu-TA/PMS system also exhibited broad catalytic universality and adaptability to various contaminants and water matrices. Quenching experiments, electron paramagnetic resonance analysis, and electrochemical measurements indicated that radical and non-radical processes jointly contributed to KN-R degradation. The proposed strategy for upcycling Cu from waste PCBs into functional materials provides novel insights into the utilization of solid waste and the development of PMS activators.

Abstract
Herein, an efficient electrochemical sensing platform is proposed for selective and sensitive detection of nitrite on the basis of Cu@C@Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (Cu@C@ZIF-8) heterostructure. core-shell Cu@C@ZIF-8 composite was synthesized by pyrolysis of Cu-metal-organic framework@ZIF-8 (Cu-MOF@ZIF-8) in Ar atmosphere on account of the difference of thermal stability between Cu-MOF and ZIF-8. For the sensing system of Cu@C@ZIF-8, ZIF-8 with proper pore size allows nitrite diffuse through the shell, while big molecules cannot, which ensures high selectivity of the sensor. On the other hand, Cu@C as electrocatalyst promotes the oxidation of nitrite, thereby resulting high sensitivity of the sensor. Accordingly, the Cu@C@ZIF-8 based sensor presents excellent performance for nitrite detection, which achieves a wide linear response range of 0.1-300.0μM, and a low limit of detection of 0.033μM. In addition, the Cu@C@ZIF-8 sensor possesses excellent stability and reproducibility, and was employed to quantify nitrite in sausage samples with recoveries of 95.45%-104.80%.
