Glucose nano biosensor with non-enzymatic excellent sensitivity prepared with nickel-cobalt nanocomposites on f-MWCNT

Nitric Oxide Detection Using a Corona Phase Molecular Recognition Site on Chiral Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNT) are structures that fluoresce in the near-infrared region. By coating SWCNT surfaces with polymeric materials such as single-chain DNA, changes in fluorescence emission occur in the presence of reagents. In this way, polymer-coated SWCNT structures allow them to be used as optical sensors for single molecule detection. Especially today, the inadequacy of the methods used in the detection of cellular molecules makes the early diagnosis of diseases such as cancer difficult at the single-molecule level. In this study, the detection of nitric oxide (NO) signals, which are a marker of cancer, was carried out at the single-molecule level. In this context, a sensor structure was formed by coating the 7,6-chiral s-SWCNT surface with ssDNA with different oligonucleotide lengths (AT). The sensor structure was characterized by using UV-vis spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy microscopy. After formation of the sensor structure, a selectivity library was created using various molecules. As a result of the coating of the SWCNT (7,6) surface with DNA corona phase formation, Raman peaks at 195 and 276 cm-1 were observed to shift to the right. Additionally, the selectivity library results showed that the (AT)30 sequence can be used in NO detection. As a result of the studies using SWCNT (7.6)- (AT)30, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of determination (LOQ) values of the sensor against NO were found to be 1.24 and 4.13 μM, respectively.

The Use of Crystalline Carbon-Based Nanomaterials (CBNs) in Various Biomedical Applications

This review study aims to present, in a condensed manner, the significance of the use of crystalline carbon-based nanomaterials in biomedical applications. Crystalline carbon-based nanomaterials, encompassing graphene, graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, carbon nanotubes, and graphene quantum dots, have emerged as promising materials for the development of medical devices in various biomedical applications. These materials possess inorganic semiconducting attributes combined with organic π-π stacking features, allowing them to efficiently interact with biomolecules and present enhanced light responses. By harnessing these unique properties, carbon-based nanomaterials offer promising opportunities for future advancements in biomedicine. Recent studies have focused on the development of these nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery, cancer treatment, and biosensors. The conjugation and modification of carbon-based nanomaterials have led to significant advancements in a plethora of therapies and have addressed limitations in preclinical biomedical applications. Furthermore, the wide-ranging therapeutic advantages of carbon nanotubes have been thoroughly examined in the context of biomedical applications.

Supramolecular recognition enhanced electrochemical sensing: β-cyclodextrin and Pd nanoparticle co-decorated 3D reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite-modified glassy carbon electrode for the quantification of ractopamine

Ractopamine (RAC) is universally known for improving lean meat percentage in livestock and thus is widely introduced as a feed additive. However, it is difficult to eliminate the RAC residue in animal tissues from the biological system and will inevitably harm human health. Hence, detecting RAC molecules in biological samples is extremely significant. Herein, a novel strategy of supramolecular recognition-enhanced electrochemical sensing is presented. This platform was constructed by coupling β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) with palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs)-functionalized three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide (3D-rGO) to form a nanocomposite (3D-rGO/Pd/β-CD), which was further used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for RAC detection. Benefiting from the attractive electrical conductivity and catalytic activity of 3D-rGO/Pd, as well as the unique small-molecule-recognition ability of β-CD demonstrated by ¹H NMR spectrum, which revealed the 1 : 2 binding mode of RAC with β-CD, increased peak current signals of RAC were observed in the cyclic voltammetry (CV) test. Under optimized conditions, the wide linear concentration range spanned 1-95 μM, along with a relatively low detection limit of 0.12 μM (S/N = 3), as evidenced by the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) approach. The platform also exhibited satisfactory stability and fine reproducibility, as well as high selectivity and good anti-interference capability. Moreover, this as-obtained sensor was efficiently applied in pork samples with a high recovery rate (96.44-103.99%), which provides a promising view of its electrochemical biosensing ability in practical applications.

An enzyme-free Ti3C2/Ni/Sm-LDH-based screen-printed-electrode for real-time sweat detection of glucose

Here, we report the fabrication of an enzyme-free glucose sensor benefiting from nickel-samarium nanoparticles-decorated MXene layered double hydroxide (MXene/Ni/Sm-LDH). The electrochemical response of the MXene/Ni/Sm-LDH to glucose was studied via cyclic voltammetry (CV). The fabricated electrode has high electrocatalytic activity for glucose oxidation. The voltametric response of the MXene/Ni/Sm-LDH electrode to glucose was investigated by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) that demonstrated an extended linear range of from 0.001 to 0.1 mM and 0.25-7.5 mM with a detection limit down to 0.24 μM (S/N = 3) and a sensitivity at 1673.54 μA mM^-1 cm^-2 1519.09 μA mM^-1 cm^-2 in concentrations of 0.01 mM and 1 mM respectively as well as good repeatability, high stability and applicability for the real sample analysis. Moreover, the as-fabricated sensor was applied to glucose detection in human sweat and showed promising results.

An ultra-sensitive rifampicin electrochemical sensor based on Fe3O4 nanoparticles anchored Multiwalled Carbon nanotube modified glassy carbon electrode

This study aimed to guide future sensor studies against other pharmaceutical drugs by synthesizing Fe₃O₄NPs@MWCNT metallic nanoparticles (NPs). Side damage caused by excessive accumulation of tuberculosis drugs in the body can cause clots in the organs, and cause serious damage such as heart attack and respiratory failure, and threaten human life. Therefore, the development of sensors sensitive to various antibiotics in this study is important for human health. In this study, the sensitivity of Fe₃O₄ NPs to tuberculosis drug (rifampicin) was evaluated by catalytic reaction using bare/GCE, MWCNT/GCE, and Fe₃O₄NPs@MWCNT/GCE electrodes. First of all, Fe₃O₄ NPs were successfully synthesized for the study and MWCNT/GCE and Fe₃O₄ NPs@MWCNT/GCE electrodes were formed with the modification of the MWCNT support material. It was observed that the Fe₃O₄ NPs@MWCNT/GCE electrode gave the highest signal against the other electrodes. The morphological structure of Fe₃O₄ NPs was determined by various characterization techniques such as Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transmission Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), and X-ray differential (XRD) and the obtained NPs were used for sensor studies, and it was observed that the current intensity increased as the scanning speed of each electrode increased in CV and DPV measurements. The average size of Fe₃O₄ NPs was found to be 7.32 ± 3.2 nm. Anodic current peaks occurred in the linear range of 2-25 μM. According to the results obtained from the measurements, the limit of detection (LOD) value was calculated as 0.64 μM limit of quantification (LOQ) 1.92 μM.

Reduced graphene oxide supported MXene based metal oxide ternary composite electrodes for non-enzymatic glucose sensor applications

Diagnosis and monitoring of glucose level in human blood has become a prime necessity to avoid health risk and to cater this, a sensor's performance with wide linearity range and high sensitivity is required. This work reports the use of ternary composite viz. MG-Cu₂O (rGO supported MXene sheet with Cu₂O) for non-enzymatic sensing of glucose. It has been prepared by co-precipitation method and characterized with X-ray powder diffraction, Ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Raman spectroscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy, High resolution transmission electron microscopy and Selected area diffraction. These analyses show a cubic structure with spherical shaped Cu₂O grown on the MG sheet. Further, the electrocatalytic activity was carried out with MG-Cu₂O sensing element by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry technique and compared with M-Cu₂O (MXene with Cu₂O) composite without graphene oxide. Of these, MG-Cu₂O composite was having the high defect density with lower crystalline size of Cu₂O, which might enhance the conductivity thereby increasing the electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of glucose as compared to M-Cu₂O. The prepared MG-Cu₂O composite shows a sensitivity of 126.6 µAmM^-1 cm^-2 with a wide linear range of 0.01to 30 mM, good selectivity, good stability over 30 days and shows a low Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) of 1.7% value towards the sensing of glucose level in human serum. Thus, the aforementioned finding indicates that the prepared sensing electrode is a well suitable candidate for the sensing of glucose level for real time applications.

Advances of Cobalt Nanomaterials as Anti-Infection Agents, Drug Carriers, and Immunomodulators for Potential Infectious Disease Treatment

Infectious diseases remain the most serious public health issue, which requires the development of more effective strategies for infectious control. As a kind of ultra-trace element, cobalt is essential to the metabolism of different organisms. In recent decades, nanotechnology has attracted increasing attention worldwide due to its wide application in different areas, including medicine. Based on the important biological roles of cobalt, cobalt nanomaterials have recently been widely developed for their attractive biomedical applications. With advantages such as low costs in preparation, hypotoxicity, photothermal conversion abilities, and high drug loading ability, cobalt nanomaterials have been proven to show promising potential in anticancer and anti-infection treatment. In this review, we summarize the characters of cobalt nanomaterials, followed by the advances in their biological functions and mechanisms. More importantly, we emphatically discuss the potential of cobalt nanomaterials as anti-infectious agents, drug carriers, and immunomodulators for anti-infection treatments, which might be helpful to facilitate progress in future research of anti-infection therapy.

Efficient green photocatalyst of silver-based palladium nanoparticles for methyle orange photodegradation, investigation of lipid peroxidation inhibition, antimicrobial, and antioxidant activity

Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary study that has been developing worldwide in recent years and has a serious impact on human life. The fact that the nanoparticles of plant origin are clean, non-toxic, and biocompatible has enabled new fields of study. The Hibiscus sabdariffa (H. sabdariffa) plant has been attracted by scientists because of its impact on health and many other areas. The lipid peroxidation inhibiting activity, antioxidant properties, and antimicrobial properties of H. sabdariffa plant with Ag-Pd metal was ditermined. For the total phenolic component, gallic acid was used as the standard and quarcetin was used for the total flavonoid. The lipid peroxidation inhibition activity of Ag-Pd NPs in ethanol extract was found to be very well compared to the positive control (BHA). The lowest and highest concentrations of DPPH radical scavenging activity were 82.178-97.357%, whereas for BHA these values were found to be 84.142-94.142%. The highest concentration of Ag-Pd NPs at 200 μg/mL the DPPH radical quenching activity was higher than BHA. Ag-Pd NPs showed a good antimicrobial activity against certain pathogenic microorganisms such as Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, which are the causative agents of various diseases in humans. The photodegradation activity of Ag-Pd NPs also investigated against Methyl orange dye (MO) under sunlight irradiation for 120 min and was found to be as 67.88.
