Abstract
In recent years, pollutants released into the environment from various sources threaten environmental health. Rapid industrialization and the constantly increasing needs of people facilitate the release of more hazardous wastes into the ecosystem. The presence of pollutants in water resources causes a wide range of adverse effects. In this study, calcium phosphate nanomaterial (Ca3(PO4)2 NM) was synthesized from biological waste eggshells for the cadmium removal in synthetic domestic wastewater, and a treatment method was developed using these NMs. The Ca3(PO4)2 NMs were produced by using a biowaste which provides the synthesis procedure greener approach. The biogenic NMs were used to remove toxic cadmium ions from wastewater samples. Cytotoxicity and genotoxicity studies of the synthesized NMs were also carried out, and their possible effects on the health of living organisms and the ecology were examined. In the developed method, the parameters affecting the removal of cadmium from wastewater samples were optimized and the removal efficiency was calculated by determining cadmium in a flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer system (FAAS). Synthetic domestic wastewater samples were utilized for evaluating the applicability of the developed treatment strategy. In addition, the adsorption capacity of the material for Cd2+ ion was calculated and the values obtained were modeled by using Langmuir adsorption isotherm (LAI). The calculated LAI parameters were within the appropriate limits, which proved that the developed NM can be used as an effective material for cadmium removal. Moreover, a new, rapid, and feasible synthesis strategy for the synthesis of Ca3(PO4)2 NM was presented in the literature.

Abstract
Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCOs) have been widely used as sensors for various hazardous gases. Among the most studied TCOs is SnO2, due to tin being an abundant material in nature, and therefore being accessible for moldable-like nanobelts. Sensors based on SnO2 nanobelts are generally quantified according to the interaction of the atmosphere with its surface, changing its conductance. The present study reports on the fabrication of a nanobelt-based SnO2 gas sensor, in which electrical contacts to nanobelts are self-assembled, and thus the sensors do not need any expensive and complicated fabrication processes. The nanobelts were grown using the vapor-solid-liquid (VLS) growth mechanism with gold as the catalytic site. The electrical contacts were defined using testing probes, thus the device is considered ready after the growth process. The sensorial characteristics of the devices were tested for the detection of CO and CO2 gases at temperatures from 25 to 75 °C, with and without palladium nanoparticle deposition in a wide concentration range of 40-1360 ppm. The results showed an improvement in the relative response, response time, and recovery, both with increasing temperature and with surface decoration using Pd nanoparticles. These features make this class of sensors important candidates for CO and CO2 detection for human health.

In Situ Synthesis of MnMgFe-LDH on Biochar for Electrochemical Detection and Removal of Cd 2+ in Aqueous Solution. Molecules 2022; 27:molecules27227875. [PMID: 36431974 PMCID: PMC9696249 DOI: 10.3390/molecules27227875] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/18/2022] [Revised: 11/05/2022] [Accepted: 11/11/2022] [Indexed: 11/17/2022] Open
Abstract
Herein, MnMgFe-layered double hydroxides/biochar (MnMgFe-LDHs/BC) composite was fabricated by immobilizing MnMgFe-LDHs on BC via the coprecipitation method, which was employed as an effective material for the detection and removal of Cd2+ from aqueous media. A lamellar structure of MnMgFe-LDHs with abundant surface-hydroxyl groups and various interlayer anions inside present a greater chance of trapping Cd2+. Meanwhile, the conductive BC with a porous structure provides numerous channels for the adsorption of Cd2+. Using the MnMgFe-LDHs/BC-based sensor, Cd2+ can be detected with a low limit of detection down to 0.03 ng/L. The feasibility of detecting Cd2+ in paddy water was also carried out, with satisfactory recoveries ranging from 97.3 to 102.3%. In addition, the MnMgFe-LDHs/BC material as an adsorbent was applied to remove Cd2+ from water with adsorption capacity of 118 mg/g, and the removal efficiency can reach 91%. These results suggest that the as-prepared MnMgFe-LDHs/BC can serve as a favorable platform for efficient determination and removal of Cd2+ in water.

Abstract
The pharmaceutical science demand for sustainable and selective electrochemical sensors which exhibit ultrasensitive capabilities for the monitoring of different drugs. In an attempt to build a useful electrochemical sensor, we describe a most efficient method for the fabrication of NiO/ZnO nanocomposite through aqueous chemical growth method. The successfully synthesized NiO/ZnO nanocomposite is successfully employed to modify a glassy carbon electrode in order to build a sensitive and reliable electrochemical sensor for the detection of carbamazepine (CBZ), an anticonvulsant drug. The morphological texture, functionalities and crystalline structure of prepared nanocomposite were determined via FTIR, XRD, EDX, TEM, and SEM analysis. In order to examine the charge transfer kinetics, the cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to exploit the electrochemical properties of the synthesized nanocomposite. The NiO/ZnO nanocomposite exhibited excellent electron transfer kinetics and less resistive behavior than the individual NiO and ZnO nanoparticles. The differential pulse voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry tools were used for the fluent determination of CBZ. Certain parameters were optimized to develop an effective method including optimum scan rate 60 mV/s, potential range from 0.4 to 1.4 V and BRB as supporting electrolyte with pH 3. The developed sensor showed exceptional response for CBZ under the linear dynamic range from 5 to 100 μM. The limit of detection of proposed NiO/ZnO sensor for the CBZ was calculated to be 0.08 μM. The analytical approach of prepared electrochemical sensor was investigated in different pharmaceutical formulation with acceptable percent recoveries ranging from 96.7 to 98.6%.
