This exhaustive review delves into the synthesis techniques, structural diversity, and adsorption capabilities of MOFs for the effective removal of heavy metals. The article explores the evolution of MOF design and fabrication methods, highlighting pivotal parameters influencing their adsorption performance, such as pore size, surface area, and the presence of functional groups. In this perspective review, a thorough analysis of various MOFs is presented, emphasizing the crucial role of ligands and metal nodes in adapting MOF properties for heavy metal removal. Moreover, the review delves into recent advancements in MOF-based composites and hybrid materials, shedding light on their heightened adsorption capacities, recyclability, and potential for regeneration. Challenges for optimization, regeneration efficiency and minimizing costs for large-scale applications are discussed.

Promising adsorbent for dye detoxification: Exploring the potential of chitosan sodium carboxymethylcellulose silk fibroin aerogel

The main goal of this study is to create a CS-CMC-SF aerogel consisting of chitosan sodium carboxymethylcellulose and silk fibroin. The aerogel is designed to remove types of dyes from water while also being environmentally friendly. This innovative adsorbent has been optimized for extracting both cationic and anionic dyes from solutions. It incorporates chitosan sodium carboxymethylcellulose and silk filament fibers to enhance its strength. Experimental data illustrates that the CS-CMC-SF aerogel possesses remarkable adsorption capabilities - 5461.77 mg/g for Congo Red (CR), 2392.83 mg/g for Malachite Green (MG), and 1262.20 mg/g for Crystal Violet (CV). A kinetic study aligns with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model suggesting predominant chemisorption phenomena occur during adsorption process. Isotherm analysis further identifies multilayered adsorption occurring on irregularly shaped surfaces of the aerogel while thermodynamic assessments validate exothermic and spontaneous characteristics inherent in its absorption mechanism. Several analytical methods such as SEM, FT-IR, XRD, and XPS were employed to examine physicochemical attributes tied to this unique material design conceptually; identifying mechanisms including pore filling, π-π interactions, ion exchange activity, electrostatic connections along with hydrogen bonding inducing overall superior performance output. Furthermore substantial soil biodegradability alongside compostable features associated with our proposed CS-CMC-SF aerogels established it's potential suitability within applications demanding sustainable options thereby validating its underlying ecological credibility.

Harnessing the Chemical Functionality of Metal-Organic Frameworks Toward Removal of Aqueous Pollutants

Wastewater treatment has been bestowed with a plethora of materials; among them, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are one such kind with exceptional properties. Besides their application in gas adsorption and storage, they are applied in many fields. In orientation toward wastewater treatment, MOFs have been and are being successfully employed to capture a variety of aqueous pollutants, including both organic and inorganic ones. This review sheds light on the postsynthetic modifications (PSMs) performed over MOFs to adsorb and degrade recalcitrant. Modifications performed on the metal nodes and the linkers have been explained with reference to some widely used chemical modifications like alkylation, amination, thiol addition, tandem modifications, and coordinate modifications. The boost in pollutant removal efficacy, reaction rate, adsorption capacity, and selectivity for the modified MOFs is highlighted. The rationale and the robustness of micromotor MOFs, i.e., MOFs with motor activity, and their potential application in the capture of toxic pollutants are also presented for readers. This review also discusses the challenges and future recommendations to be considered in performing PSM over a MOF concerning wastewater treatment.

Formulating of the sustained release of Tebuconazole pesticide using chitosan aerogel reinforced NFC/CaCO3 nanocomposite

Chitosan-based aerogels were fabricated through utilizing of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC)/CaCO3 composites. Chitosan aerogel and extra three aerogels loaded different concentrations of NFC/CaCO3 were investigated to explore their release efficiency of Tebuconazole pesticides. Results obtained from ATR-FTIR showed a remarkable decline of the characterized chitosan hydroxyl group peak prolonging with appearance of new peaks assigned to the inclusion of inorganic calcium element. Also, SEM images showed chitosan aerogel with regular porous structure increased by incorporation with of NFC/CaCO3 nanocomposite, while EDS affirmed the presence of calcium element rather pristine chitosan aerogel. In addition to this, the physical characterizations showed significant improvement in swelling properties for aerogels incorporated NFC/CaCO3 nanocomposite at low ratios. Chitosan aerogel reinforced NFC/CaCO3 nanocomposite exhibited benefit on loading and release efficiency of Tebuconazole. All samples showed accessibility to column release method with fastest release at low slow rate 2 mL/min as giving chance for diffusion and solubility of ingredient, while release increase as heat increase as result of pore expansion. In conclusion, chitosan aerogels incorporated calcium carbonate showed better-sustained release of Tebuconazole pesticides than pristine chitosan aerogel. The produced aerogels loaded NFC/CaCO3 nanocomposite could be promising for controlled release of pesticides at water-streams in agriculture sector.

In this context, we outline the latest advancements in the study of cellulose aerogels' formulation and their diverse impacts on textile formations. Drawing from the latest studies, we reviewed the materials used for the creation of various kinds of cellulose-focused aerogels and their properties, analytical techniques, and multiple functionalities in relation to textiles. This comprehensive analysis extensively covers the diverse strategies employed to enhance the multifunctionality of cellulose-based aerogels in the textiles industry. Additionally, we focused on the global market size of bio-derivative aerogels, companies in the industry producing goods, and prospects moving forward.

Synthesis and fabrication of segregative and durable MnO2@chitosan composite aerogel beads for uranium(VI) removal from wastewater

To address the imperative need for efficient removal of uranium-containing wastewater and mitigate radioactive contamination risks associated with nuclear energy, the development of materials with high removal efficiency and facile separation is crucial. This study designed and synthesised MnO2@chitosan (CTS) composite aerogel beads by in-situ growing δ-MnO2 on porous CTS aerogel beads. This approach not only mitigates the agglomeration of MnO2 nanospheres but also significantly enhances the porous structure and surface area of MnO2@CTS. These cost-effective and eco-friendly millimeter-scale spherical aerogels exhibited convenient separation properties after adsorption. These characteristics help mitigate the risk of equipment seam blockage and secondary pollution that are often associated with powdered adsorbents. Additionally, MnO2@CTS exhibited remarkable mechanical strength (stress approximately 0.55 MPa at 60 % strain), enabling rapid separation and easy regeneration while maintaining high adsorption performance even after five cycles. Significantly, MnO2@CTS exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 410.7 mg/g at pH 6 and 298 K, surpassing reported values for most CTS/MnO2-based adsorbents. The chemisorption process of U(VI) on MnO2@CTS followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Dubinin-Radushkevish models. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis further confirmed the reduction of U(VI) to U(V/IV). These findings highlight the substantial potential of MnO2@CTS aerogel beads for U(VI) removal from aqueous solutions, positioning them as a promising solution for addressing U(VI) contamination in wastewater.

Recent Advances in the Treatment of Industrial Wastewater from Different Celluloses in Continuous Systems

There are numerous studies on water care methods featured in various academic and research journals around the world. One research area is cellulose residue coupled with continuous systems to identify which are more efficient and easier to install. Investigations have included mathematical design models that provide methods for developing and commissioning industrial wastewater treatment plants, but nothing is provided on how to size and start these treatment systems. Therefore, the objective is to determine recent advances in the treatment of industrial wastewater from different celluloses in continuous systems. The dynamic behavior of the research results with cellulose biomasses was analyzed with the mass balance model and extra-particle and intraparticle dispersion, evaluating adsorption capacities, design variables, and removal constants, and making a size contribution for each cellulose analyzed using adsorption capacities. A mathematical model was also developed that feeds on cellulose reuse, determining new adsorption capacities and concluding that the implementation of cellulose waste treatment systems has a high feasibility due to low costs and high adsorption capacities. Furthermore, with the design equations, the companies themselves could design their systems for the treatment of water contaminated with heavy metals with cellulose.
