Abstract
High performance liquid chromatography coupled with post-column derivatization is used for increasing the sensitivity and selectivity of the desirable analytes after the chromatographic separation. The transformation of the analytes can be conducted through the addition of a suitable reagent in the eluted stream or the ultraviolet irradiation of the eluted analytes, forming detectable derivatives for ultraviolet or fluorescence detectors. This review focuses on the developed methods using high performance liquid chromatography coupled with post-column derivatization for the determination of substances in food samples during the last two decades. The significance of the determination of each analyte in foods and the existing guidelines in each case are discussed. Preparation of the samples and the analytical methods are commented. For each analyte, official methods and commercially available systems and reagents are mentioned, as well.

Abstract
In this study, a sensitive and fast procedure of ultrasonic-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (UADLLME) coupled with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) for the determination of major pyrethroid pesticides (permethrin, tetramethrin, bifenthrin, fenvalerate, flucythrinate, fluvalinate, fenpropathrin, deltamethrin, and cyhalothrin) in blood samples was developed. Response surface methodology (RSM) combined with Box-Behnken design (BBD) and ANOVA function was used to optimize key factors affecting the extraction efficiency of UADLLME procedure. Target compounds were analyzed by GC-MS/MS. Under the optimal conditions, good linearity (R2 >0.99) was achieved for all the analytes in the concentration range of 0.5 to 100 μg L-1 . The recoveries for spiked samples at 3 concentration levels were between 70.2 and 91.8%, with relative standard deviations (RSD) lower than 10%. Very low limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantification (LOQs) ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 μg L-1 and from 0.03 to 0.3 μg L-1 were achieved. This method was successfully applied to the determination of low concentration of pyrethroids in blood samples from real forensic cases. High sensitivity, fast determination, simplicity in operation, small sample volume, and low usage of organic solvents are the advantages of this method. This methodology is of important value for sensitive and quick determination of residue pesticides and metabolites, study of residue pesticides behavior in human body, as well as application in real forensic cases.

Abstract
The wide use of pesticides in agriculture is necessary to guarantee adequate food production worldwide. However, pesticide residues have caused global concern because of their potential health risk to consumers. In this study, we could identify β-cypermethrin (β-CY) and its degradation product 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA) by liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometry. Few studies on the simultaneous determination of β-CY and its metabolites have been carried out so far; hence, we established a high-performance liquid chromatography method to determine the concentrations of both β-CY and 3-PBA simultaneously in microbial degradation systems. In this study, a novel β-CY degrading strain, Bacillus licheniformis B-1, was isolated from a tea garden soil, utilizing β-CY as a growth substrate. Good linear relationships between β-CY and 3-PBA were observed and the concentrations of reference solutions were between 0.50 and 60.00 µg/mL. Satisfactory stability and intra- and interday precision were obtained. The limits of detection were 0.06 and 0.13 µg/mL for β-CY and 3-PBA, respectively, and the corresponding limits of quantification were 0.21 and 0.34 µg/mL, respectively. Spiking recoveries for β-CY varied from 98.38 to 105.80%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) varying from 1.49 to 3.93%. Spiking recoveries for 3-PBA varied from 99.59 to 101.20%, with RSDs varying from 0.58 to 3.64%. The proposed method has advantages of simplicity, rapidity, high accuracy, good separation and reproducibility; thus, it is ideally suitable for simultaneous determination of β-CY and 3-PBA in microbial degradation systems.

Abstract
In this experiment, fenvalerate antibodies were immobilised on the electrode by the crosslinking with glutaraldehyde modified on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) via chitosan. Fenvalerate was measured by the increase of electron transfer resistance when the immune reaction occurred with Fe(CN)6(3-)/Fe(CN)6(4-) as the probe. Under optimal conditions, the change of resistance is in a linear relationship with the logarithm of the concentration in the range of 1.0×10(-3)∼1.0×10(1)mg/L (R=0.998) with a detection limit of 0.80 μg/L. This method bears such merits as simplicity of operation, high sensitivity, wide linear range, specificity, reproducibility and good stability. The immunosensor was applied in the detection of real samples of tea, achieving satisfactory results, and it could be regenerated after being placed alternately in 0.5 mol/L HCl and 0.5 mol/L NaOH solutions.

Abstract
A liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed for the simultaneous analysis of 6 ectoparasiticides - 2 synthetic pyrethroids (deltamethrin, cypermethrin) and 4 macrocyclic lactones (abamectin, doramectin, ivermectin and eprinomectin) in biosolids. The method was used to investigate the occurrence of these ectoparasiticides in beef cattle feedlot wastes in Australia from 5 commercial feedlot operations which employ varying waste management practices. Deltamethrin and cypermethrin were not detected in any of the samples while abamectin, ivermectin, doramectin and eprinomectin were detected in some of the samples with concentrations ranging from 1 to 36 μg/kg dry weight (d.w.) freeze dried feedlot waste. Levels of macrocyclic lactones detected in the feedlot wastes varied and were dependent on sample type. The effect of seasonal variations and waste management practices were also investigated in this study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To outline the development and validation of a universal method for quantifying deltamethrin, permethrin and alpha-cypermethrin levels in a variety of long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets. METHODS Using the HPLC conditions found in the CIPAC method for deltamethrin quantification, the method is based on a simple extraction technique for sample preparation (heating in isooctane at approximately 100 °C for 15 min). The method was validated for linearity, specificity, accuracy, precision, insecticide stability to extraction conditions and required extraction time for insecticide removal. RESULTS The method was found valid for insecticide quantifications for various types of nets, namely for deltamethrin coated on polyester nets, deltamethrin incorporated into polyethylene nets, permethrin incorporated into polyethylene nets, alpha-cypermethrin coated on polyester nets and alpha-cypermethrin incorporated into polyethylene nets. CONCLUSIONS This method will provide a more simplified approach to testing a variety of nets (different types of fibre) containing deltamethrin, permethrin or alpha-cypermethrin.

Abstract
Pyrethroids are a class of insecticides that are becoming increasingly popular in agricultural and home use applications. Sensitive assays for pyrethroid insecticides in complex matrices are difficult with both instrumental and immunochemical methods. Environmental analysis of the pyrethroids by immunoassay requires either knowing which pyrethroids contaminate the source or the use of nonspecific antibodies with cross-reactivities to a class of compounds. We describe an alternative method that converts the type II pyrethroids to a common chemical product, 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA), prior to analysis. This method is much more sensitive than detecting the parent compound, and it is much easier to detect a single compound rather than an entire class of compounds. This is useful in screening for pyrethroids as a class or in situations where a single type of pyrethroid is used. We demonstrated this technique in both citrus oils and environmental water samples with conversion rates of the pyrethroid to 3-PBA that range from 45 to 75% and methods that require no extraction steps for either the immunoassay or the liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) techniques. Limits of detection for this technique applied to orange oil are 5 nM, 2 μM, and 0.8 μM when detected by LC-MS/MS, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and immunoassay, respectively. The limit of detection for pyrethroids in water when detected by immunoassay was 2 nM.

Abstract
In the present study, a new sensitive and simple kinetic-spectrophotometric method for the determination of the insecticide diflubenzuron [1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(2,6-diflubenzoil)urea] is proposed. The method is based on the inhibited effect of diflubenzuron on the oxidation of sulphanilic acid (SA) by hydrogen peroxide in phosphate buffer in presence Cu(II) ion. Diflubenzuron was determined with linear calibration graph in the interval from 0.31 to 3.1 μg mL⁻¹ and from 3.1 to 31.0 μg mL⁻¹. The optimized conditions yielded a theoretical detection limit of 0.18 μg mL⁻¹ corresponding to 0.036 mg kg(-1)mushroom sample based on the 3S(b) criterion. The RSD is 5.03-1.83 % and 2.81-0.71 % for the concentration interval of diflubenzuron 0.31-3.1 μg mL⁻¹ and 3.1-31.0 μg mL⁻¹, respectively. The reaction was followed spectrophotometrically at 370 nm. The kinetic parameters of the reaction are reported, and the rate equations are suggested. The developed procedure was successfully applied to the rapid determination of diflubenzuron in spiked mushroom samples of different mushroom species. The HPLC method was used like a comparative method to verify results.

Abstract
A simple, selective and sensitive method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of tetracycline, oxytetracycline, chlorotetracycline, demeclocycline, doxycycline and meclocycline based on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with chemiluminescence detection. The procedure was based on the chemiluminescent enhancement by photoirradiated tetracyclines of the cerium (IV)-rhodamine B system in sulphuric acid medium. The six tetracyclines were separated on an Aquasil-C18 column with a gradient elution using a mixture of acetonitrile and 0.1 mol L(-1) phosphate buffer as mobile phase, photoderivatized using a photoreactor consisting of a tube reactor coil of PFA and a 8W Xenon lamp. Under the optimized conditions, the method was validated with respect to linearity, precision, limits of detection and quantification and accuracy. The relative standard deviation (RSD) on intra-day precision was below 10% and detection limits ranged between 0.12 and 0.34 microg L(-1). The proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of tetracyclines in surface water samples. A possible mechanism of the chemiluminescence in the system is discussed.

Abstract
Nowadays, a wide range of pesticides are used in agricultural production, and their monitoring in samples of environmental and alimentary interest is of extreme importance to ensure, among others, the safety of consumption of foods. The aim of this work is to provide updated information about the major developments in CE and HPLC in pesticide analysis, covering relevant publications between 2004 and early 2006. The use of different sample pretreatment steps to provide a suitable extraction of these compounds from the different matrices as well as to increase the sensitivity of the determination is also discussed.
