Abstract
Digital image colorimetry was applied to introduce a rapid, portable, and non-enzymatic test for methamphetamine measurements in urine. Imprinted polymer was synthesized in a simple, low-cost process and utilized for selective extraction of analyte from the sample in combination with the well-known ninhydrin color test. Applying the digital camera on a mobile phone, RGB basic color data were obtained, and calibration curves were developed for different concentrations of methamphetamine. Optimization of the test condition was carried out by changing some effective parameters such as extraction time and pH. The results were compared with some similar structural compounds indicating great potential for use as a selective and semi-quantitative field test for this drug. An acceptable linear range (5-100 μM) and detection limit (1.44 μM) as well as good agreement with the reference method, makes this fast portable method, an easy and reliable test for the analysis of methamphetamine in biological samples.

Abstract
In the present study, a copper-based metal-organic framework (HKUST-1) was used first time for preconcentration trace amounts of addictive drugs in biological samples. HKUST-1 was synthesized and coated onto the surface of stainless steel wire. The prepared coating was used in headspace solid-phase microextraction method coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for preconcentration and determination of some addictive drugs in biological fluids. Prepared coating shows good extraction efficiency due to large surface area, and π-π stacking interaction with selected analytes. Under optimum conditions, the method was validated with a reasonable determination coefficient (R2 > 0.9961) and suitable linear dynamic range (0.5-1000 μg L-1 ). Also, the limits of detections were obtained in the range of 0.1-0.4, 0.2-0.6, and 0.4-0.7 μg L-1 for water, urine, and plasma samples, respectively. The limits of quantification of present method were obtained in the range 0.5-1.3, 0.7-1.5, and 1.0-1.9 μg L-1 in water, urine, and plasma samples, respectively. The intra-day and inter-dye single fiber and fiber to fiber relative standard deviations were observed in the range 3.0-13.9% and 3.5-12.3%, respectively. Finally, the present method was applied for the determination of the drugs in biological samples.

Abstract
The rapid sensing of drug compounds has traditionally relied on antibodies, enzymes and electrochemical reactions. These technologies can frequently produce false positives/negatives and require specific conditions to operate. Akin to antibodies, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are a more robust synthetic alternative with the ability to bind a target molecule with an affinity comparable to that of its natural counterparts. With this in mind, the research presented in this article introduces a facile MIP-based dye displacement assay for the detection of (±) amphetamine in urine. The selective nature of MIPs coupled with a displaceable dye enables the resulting low-cost assay to rapidly produce a clear visual confirmation of a target's presence, offering huge commercial potential. The following manuscript characterizes the proposed assay, drawing attention to various facets of the sensor design and optimization. To this end, synthesis of a MIP tailored towards amphetamine is described, scrutinizing the composition and selectivity (ibuprofen, naproxen, 2-methoxphenidine, quetiapine) of the reported synthetic receptor. Dye selection for the development of the displacement assay follows, proceeded by optimization of the displacement process by investigating the time taken and the amount of MIP powder required for optimum displacement. An optimized dose-response curve is then presented, introducing (±) amphetamine hydrochloride (0.01-1 mg mL-1) to the engineered sensor and determining the limit of detection (LoD). The research culminates in the assay being used for the analysis of spiked urine samples (amphetamine, ibuprofen, naproxen, 2-methoxphenidine, quetiapine, bupropion, pheniramine, bromopheniramine) and evaluating its potential as a low-cost, rapid and selective method of analysis.

Abstract
Nowadays, the challenges in analytical chemistry, and mostly in quantitative analysis, include the development and validation of new materials, strategies and procedures to meet the growing need for rapid, sensitive, selective and green methods. In this context, considering the constantly updated International Guidelines, constant innovation is mandatory both in the pre-treatment procedures and in the instrumental configurations to obtain reliable, true, and reproducible information. In this context, additionally to the classic plasma (or serum) matrices, biopsies, whole blood, and urine have seen an increase in the works that also consider non-conventional matrices. Obviously, all these studies have shown that there is a correlation between the blood levels and those found in the new matrix, in order to be able to correlate and compare the results in a robust way and reduce any bias problems. This review provides an update of the most recent developments currently in use in the sample pre-treatment and instrument configurations in the biological/clinical fields. Furthermore, the review concludes with a series of considerations regarding the role and future developments of Analytical Chemistry in light of the forthcoming challenges and new goals to be achieved.

Abstract
Abstract
A simple and rapid pipette-tip solid-phase extraction (PT-SPE) procedure with derivatization prior to gas chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry analysis is developed for the simultaneous determination of amphetamine (AMP), methamphetamine (MA), 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) in urine samples. The PT-SPE procedure using self-made sorbent could extract drugs within 6 min from 100-μL urine samples, requiring low solvent-consumption (<2.0 mL). Besides, the self-made pipette tip could be reused at least five times. Under optimized conditions, the recoveries of four amphetamines at spiked levels (low, medium and high) ranged from 87.7 to 110.4%, with relative standard deviations < 9.5%. The limit of detections and limit of quantifications for AMP, MA, MDA and MDMA were in the range of 2.52–8.25 ng⋅mL−1 and 8.4–27.5 ng⋅mL−1, respectively. Validation results show that the proposed method is suitable for the quantitation of amphetamines and has been successfully applied in the urine samples of suspected drug abusers.

Abstract
A porous aromatic framework (PAF) derived from triphenylamine (type PAF-41) was prepared and is shown to be a viable coating for fibrous solid-phase microextraction (SPME). PAF-41 can be easily synthesized and has a high surface area, a rich π-electron structure, and electron-rich nitrogen atoms in its framework. The PAF-41-coated fibrous SPME extractor was combined with a gas chromatographic separation and flame ionization detection. The method was applied to the quantitation of some aromatic organic compounds (AOCs), including polar amphetamine and methamphetamine and nonpolar ethylbenzene, o-, m- and p-xylenes, and styrene. The method was optimized after which a linear response is found for the 10-500 ng·mL-1 amphetamine and methamphetamine concentration ranges. The limits of detection are 1.0 and 0.5 ng·mL-1; and relative standard deviations for six repeated extractions with a single fiber are 5.3 and 6.7%. The method was applied for the determination of amphetamine and methamphetamine in spiked urine samples without any pretreatment except for dilution with water. The PAF-41 modified fiber also was applied to the extraction of styrene, xylenes and ethylbenzene. The enrichment capacities of the extractor for these AOCs were superior to those of commercial SPME extractors. Abstract
Amphetamine and its related derivatives have stimulant and hallucinogenic properties. Illegal use of these drugs is an increasing global problem resulting in significant public health and legal problems. Deaths have been reported after intake of these drugs due to overdose. It is important to determine the type and concentration of illicit drugs in biological samples. These compounds are found in complex matrices at low concentration levels. The microextraction techniques are dominant sample preparation procedure and they are widely accepted as the most labor-intensive part of the bioanalytical process. For this purpose, a survey of recent published advances in microextraction procedures for quantification of amphetamines in biological samples found in the different databases from 2008 to date will be conducted.

Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted a lot of attention as effective sorbents due to their strong sorption properties and several potential applications in many fields. In this work, the acid oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) was coated onto a stainless steel wire by a simple physical adhesion approach to develop solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fibers. By combination of the MWCNTs-COOH coated fiber-based headspace SPME and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), the developed method demonstrates a good enhancement factor (288-651), low limits of detection (LODs, 0.2-1.3μg/L) for determination of amphetamine-type stimulant drugs (ATSs) in urine samples. The recoveries of the spiked ATSs (5, 50 and 500μg/L) were in the range of 88-107%, the calibration curve was linear for concentrations of analytes in the range from 0.5 to 1000μg/L (R=0.963-0.999). Furthermore, single fiber repeatability and fiber-to-fiber reproducibility were in the range of 2.3%-6.2% (n=6) and 5.7%-9.8% (n=3), respectively. The MWCNTs-COOH coated fiber is highly thermally stable and can be used over 150 times. The method was successfully applied to the forensic determination of amphetamine (AMP) and methamphetamine (MAMP) in human urine samples and satisfactory results were achieved.

Abstract
In this study, a new method based on homogeneous liquid-phase microextraction was developed for the determination of methamphetamine (MA) in urine samples. Dipropylamine (DPA), as a solvent with switchable hydrophilicity, was used as the extraction solvent and can be miscible/immiscible based on variable pH values of the aqueous sample solution. The effects of operational extraction parameters such as DPA volume, temperature, the amount of added acid and base solutions, and NaCl content of the sample were investigated. Under optimal conditions the preconcentration factor, limit of detection and linearity of the method were achieved in the ranges of 98.8, 1.5 µgL-1 and 5-1500 µgL-1, respectively. Also, within-run precision, between-run precision and robustness of the method were investigated. Finally, the proposed method was successfully applied to the analysis of MA in urine sample.

Abstract
Determination of methamphetamine in forensic laboratories is a major issue due to its health and social harm. In this work, a simple, sensitive, and environmentally friendly method based on ionic liquid dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction combined with high-performance liquid chromatography was established for the analysis of methamphetamine in human urine. 1-Octyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate with the help of disperser solvent methanol was selected as the microextraction solvent in this process. Various parameters affecting the extraction efficiency of methamphetamine were investigated systemically, including extraction solvent and its volume, disperser solvent and its volume, sample pH, extraction temperature, and centrifugal time. Under the optimized conditions, a good linearity was obtained in the concentration range of 10-1000 ng/mL with determination coefficient >0.99. The limit of detection calculated at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3 was 1.7 ng/mL and the relative standard deviations for six replicate experiments at three different concentration levels of 100, 500, and 1000 ng/mL were 6.4, 4.5, and 4.7%, respectively. Meanwhile, up to 220-fold enrichment factor of methamphetamine and acceptable extraction recovery (>80.0%) could be achieved. Furthermore, this method has been successfully employed for the sensitive detection of a urine sample from a suspected drug abuser.

Abstract
A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for the determination of amphetamines in urine samples by means of liquid-phase microextraction was validated, including calculation of measurement uncertainty. After extraction in the three-phase mode, acceptor phase was withdrawn from the fiber and the residue was derivatized with trifluoroacetic anhydride. The method showed to be very simple, rapid and it required a significantly low amount of organic solvent for extraction. The limits of detection were 10 and 20μg/L for amphetamine and methamphetamine, respectively. The calibration curves were linear over the specified range (20μg/L to 1400μg/L; r(2)>0.99). The method showed to be both precise and accurate and a relative combined uncertainty of 2% was calculated. In order of importance, the factors which were more determinant for the calculation of method uncertainty were: analyte concentration, sample volume, trueness and method precision.

Abstract
AbstractLiquid-based micro-extraction is a novel “green” sample preparation technique using micro-litre levels of organic solvent to extract target analytes from various sample matrices for subsequent instrumental analysis. This technique developed rapidly from its introduction in the mid-1990s. Micro-extraction methods can be conveniently combined with a wide selection of instruments commonly used in a chemical laboratory; they significantly reduce analysis time and costs of solvents’ use and waste disposal. This review focuses on recent advances in several liquid-based micro-extraction methods, including single-drop micro-extraction, hollow fibre-liquid phase micro-extraction, and dispersive liquid-liquid micro-extraction. Examples of application of these methods to environmental, food, and biomedical analysis are listed.
