Abstract
An efficient and stable fiber coating is of great importance for solid-phase microextraction (SPME). In this study, carboxylated mesoporous carbon hollow spheres (MCHS-COOH) were developed as an efficient SPME coating of polar aromatic amines (AAs) for the first time. The MCHS-COOH coating material with high specific surface area (1182.32 m2 g-1), large pore size (10.14 nm), and rich oxygen-containing groups was fabricated via a facile H2O2 post-treatment. The as-prepared MCHS-COOH-coated fiber exhibited fast adsorption rate and excellent extraction properties, mainly due to its π-π interactions, hollow structure, and abundant affinity sites (carboxyl groups). Subsequently, coupled with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), a sensitive method with low limits of detection (0.08-2.0 ng L-1), a wide linear range (0.3-500.0 ng L-1), and good repeatability (2.0-8.8%, n = 6) was developed for the analysis of AAs. The developed method was validated against three river water samples, with satisfactory relative recoveries being obtained. The above results demonstrated that the prepared MCHS-COOH-coated fiber exhibited good adsorption capacity, suggesting a promising application to monitor trace polar compounds in real environment.

Abstract
MOF-derived zink and nitrogen co-doped porous carbon (ZNPC) was synthesized through the pyrolysis of MOF-5-NH2 and used as a solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coating material. Coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), headspace SPME (HS-SPME) based on ZNPC was adopted for the determination of phenols in food samples. The co-existence of N and Zn in ZNPC endows the derived carbon superior hydrophilicity, which is highly beneficial for phenols capture. After optimizing the conditions of extraction and desorption, a sensitive analytical method was established with low limits of detections (LODs, 0.73-2.3 ng g-1) and wide linear ranges (5-5000 ng g-1). Both the intra-fiber repeatability (RSDs from 2.8-7.3%) and inter-fiber reproducibility (RSDs from 9.7-11.7%) were satisfactory. The established method was applied to phenol determination in beef jerky and duck neck with satisfactory recoveries of 81.2-120.4% and RSDs of 2.8-9.9%, which met well with the requirement of practical application.

Abstract
Exploring the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in aquatic environment is an important task. Metal-organic frameworks (MOF) are commonly used as sorbents for enriching PAHs but their crystal synthesis, sorbent preparation and robustness remain challenging. In the present study, under mild conditions, a novel sheathed MOF fiber coating was fabricated via in situ heteroepitaxial growth of copper-2,5-diaminoterephthalate (Cu-DAT) crystals and subsequent polyimide (PI) sheath. The copper hydroxide nanotubes were first synthesized on the copper wire to provide a substrate for further in situ heteroepitaxial Cu-DAT growth, and the coating was then sheathed with PI via a simple dip-coating procedure. The well-ranged copper hydroxide nanotubes, the unique adsorption property of Cu-DAT, and the PI sheath, the prepared fiber all contributed to a successful solid-phase microextraction (SPME) device for detecting PAHs. Results demonstrated that the SPME methods using the novel fiber possessed great sensitivity, wide linear range, good reproducibility, and the robustness was significantly improved with PI sheath. The novel SPME material was successfully applied for detection of PAHs in river water samples and in vivo detection of PAHs in fish dorsal muscle. In general, this study explored an effective and convenient method to prepare high-efficient MOF-based SPME fiber for PAHs analysis in complex environmental water samples and living organisms via in situ growth and polymer sheath.

Abstract
Methods and experiments In this study, a functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-coated solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber was developed for concentrating analytes in aqueous samples. Sodium deoxycholate (NaDC) was used as a dispersing agent for non-covalent modification of MWCNTs. The coating showed porous structure and large adsorption capacity. To investigate the capability of this MWCNTs/NaDC SPME fiber, it was applied to the analysis of phenols in aqueous solution. After extraction, the analytes were desorbed in an acetonitrile–water solution and analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography. Results The MWCNTs/NaDC fiber exhibited good analytical performance, and fine preparation reproducibility was obtained with the relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranging from 4.9% to 10.2% (n = 6) in one batch, from 5.7% to 11.9% (n = 3) among different batches. Under the optimum extraction conditions, the detection limits were 0.15–0.30 ng/mL(S/N = 3), the linear detection ranges were 1–100 ng/mL (R2 ≥ 0.9997) for these analytes, and good recoveries (80.3–95.4%) were obtained for the spiked samples. Conclusion This is a simple and accurate pretreatment method for the analysis of phenols in aqueous samples.

Abstract
In this study, for the first time, hollow fiber and monolithic fiber were fabricated based on metal-organic framework deep eutectic solvents/molecularly imprinted polymers (MOF- DES/MIPs) and were used for microextraction of phthalate esters under termed hollow fiber liquid membrane-protected solid-phase microextraction (HFLMP-SPME) followed by gas chromatography- flame ionization detection. Several parameters influencing extraction recoveries of phthalate esters including adsorption and desorption parameters were investigated and optimized using fabricated MOF- DES/MIPs monolithic fiber. Under optimal conditions, detection limits (S/N = 3) of the method were in a range of 0.008-0.03 µg L-1 and limits of quantification (S/N = 10) were between 0.028 and 0.12 µg L-1. RSD (%) for intra-day and inter-day precisions were between 2.4-4.7% and 2.6-3.4%, respectively. Subsequently, this procedure was successfully applied with satisfactory results in the determination of phthalate esters in yogurt, water, and soybean oil samples. The R (%) ranged from 95.5 to 100.0% in different samples.

Abstract
An amino-functionalized ordered mesoporous polymer (OMP-NH2) was synthesized and applied as a fiber coating for solid phase microextraction of polar phenols from environmental samples. The fiber coating was prepared by loading the OMP-NH2 powder onto a stainless steel wire through silicone gel. Combined with GC-MS, the fibers were employed to quantify trace of phenols in water through headspace-SPME. The characterization showed the OMP-NH2 to have a large specific surface area (420 m2 g-1) and good thermal stability (>400 °C). Due to its mesoporous structure and favorable interactions via hydrogen bonding and π stacking interactions with phenols, the sorbent represents a promising candidate for the separation and enrichment of polar phenols. Extraction conditions, such as temperature, extraction time, salt concentration, pH value and desorption time, were fully optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the coating exhibits an enrichment effect that is ~2-10 times better than that of a commercial polyacrylate coating. Figures of merit include (a) low limits of detection (0.05-0.16 ng L-1), (b) wide linear ranges (0.2-10,000 ng L-1), and (c) high enrichment factors (510-2272). The relative standard deviations for one fiber and fiber-to-fiber were in the range of 4.0-6.1% and 4.6-7.4%, respectively. The method was applied to the determination of phenols in water samples and gave satisfactory recoveries between 85.4 and 112.2%. Graphical abstract An amino-functionalized ordered mesoporous polymer (OMP-NH2) was synthesized by a solventless method and applied as headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) fiber coating for the extraction of polar phenols from the environmental samples.

Abstract
A polyethyleneimine (PEI)-modified attapulgite was employed as a new adsorbent for solid-phase extraction (SPE) of chlorophenols (CPs) from environmental water samples. Key factors pivotal to extraction efficiency, such as organic additive, pH, salt, sample loading volume, elution volume, and sample loading flow rate, were investigated. The maximum adsorption capacity of CPs reached 38 mg/g, and the adsorption behavior could be described with the Langmuir isotherm model. The developed SPE procedure was then tested on river water samples. Of this cartridge, 0.4 g could be used to treat up to 100 mL of the water sample, with high recoveries achieved. The limit of detection (S/N = 3) and the limit of quantification (S/N = 10) were in range of 0.08-0.56 and 0.27-1.88 ng/mL, respectively. The mean recoveries of CPs spiked in river water samples ranged from 84.4 to 96.8% with relative standard deviations for the intra-day and inter-day less than 6.30%. The developed SPE method exhibited high sensitivity, high selectivity, excellent accuracy, and good repeatability to the analysis of trace CPs in complicated aqueous matrices. Abstract
Nanostructured materials have great potential for solid phase microextraction (SPME) on account of their tiny size, distinct architectures and superior physical and chemical properties. Herein, a core-shell TiO2@C fiber for SPME was successfully fabricated by the simple hydrothermal reaction of a titanium wire and subsequent amorphous carbon coating. The readily hydrothermal procedure afforded in situ synthesis of TiO2 nanowires on a titanium wire and provided a desirable substrate for further coating of amorphous carbon. Benefiting from the much larger surface area of subsequent TiO2 and good adsorption property of the amorphous carbon coating, the core-shell TiO2@C fiber was utilized for the SPME device for the first time and proved to have better performance in extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. In comparison to the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and PDMS/divinylbenzene (DVB) fiber for commercial use, the TiO2@C fiber obtained gas chromatography responses 3-8 times higher than those obtained by the commercial 100 μm PDMS and 1-9 times higher than those obtained by the 65 μm PDMS/DVB fiber. Under the optimized extraction conditions, the low detection limits were obtained in the range of 0.4-7.1 ng L-1 with wider linearity in the range of 10-2000 ng L-1. Moreover, the fiber was successfully used for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Pearl River water, which demonstrated the applicability of the core-shell TiO2@C fiber.
