Abstract
Acurate and sensitive determination of hazards from food contact materials is important to monitor food safety. It is necessary to excavate efficient adsorbent for simultaneous recognition and adsorption of food hazards of trace level for sample preparation. In this work, β-cyclodextrin and calix[4]arene were employed as hybrid functional monomers to prepare macrocyclic porous organic polymer (β-CD-CX4 POP). It was proved that the supramolecular cavities of β-CD-CX4 POP could form inclusion complexes with fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs) through host-guest recognition, which greatly improved the adsorption performance. The hydrophobic cavities of β-cyclodextrin and calix[4]arene of β-CD-CX4 POP exhibited synergistic effect for simultaneous recognition of FWAs. The high-throughput enrichment of FWAs was realized by β-CD-CX4 POP membranes coupled with a multiple-channel syringe pump. Based on membrane-based solid-phase extraction combined with UHPLC-MS/MS, a sensitive analytical method was established to determine six FWAs. The LODs was in range of 3-50 ng/L with the linear range of 0.02-100 μg/L. The developed method was used to quantify FWAs in bread wrapper and bread, and the spiked recoveries ranged from 78.1%-119% with RSD of 2.3%-9.7%. This work indicated that β-CD-CX4 POP was promising for the simultaneous recognition and adsorption of FWAs migrating from food contact materials.

Abstract
A covalent organic framework (COF) was gown on porous silica with 1,3,5-tri(4-aminophenyl)benzene and 2,5-divinyl-1,4-phenyldiformaldehyde as monomers, and two ionic liquids were grafted to COF by a click reaction. The materials before and after the modification of ionic liquids were separately packed into solid-phase extraction columns (10 × 4.6 mm, i.d.), which were coupled with liquid chromatography to construct online analysis systems. The extraction mechanisms of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, bisphenols, diphenylalkanes and benzoic acids were investigated on these materials. There were π-π, hydrogen-bond and electrostatic interactions on ionic liquid-functionalized sorbents. After the comparison among these materials, the best sorbent was used, and the analytical method was established and successfully applied to the detection of some estrogens from actual samples. For the analytical method, the detection limit was as low as 0.005 μg L-1, linear range was as wide as 0.017-10.0 μg L-1, and enrichment ratio was as high as 3635. The recoveries in actual samples were 70 %-129 %.

Porous β-cyclodextrin polymers for rapid and efficient removal of organic micropollutants from water: The role of sulfonation and porosity on adsorption performance. CHEMOSPHERE 2024; 363:142740. Abstract
Removal of organic micropollutants (OMPs) from water, especially hydrophilic and ionized ones, is challenging for water remediation. Herein, porous β-cyclodextrin polymers (PCPs) with tailored functionalization were prepared based on molecular expansion strategy and sulfonation. Partially benzylated β-cyclodextrin was knotted by external crosslinker to form PCP1, and knotting PCP1 by expansion molecule generated PCP2. PCP1 and PCP2 were sulfonated to achieve PCP1-SO3H and PCP2-SO3H. Based on systematical adsorption evaluation toward multiple categories of OMPs, it was found that the introduced strong polar -SO3H group could bring strong hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions. PCP2 showed the highest surface (998.97 m2/g) displayed more excellent adsorption performance toward neutral and anionic OMPs, and the adsorption mechanism for this property of PCP2 was dominated by hydrophobic interactions. In addition, the PCP1-SO3H with the lowest surface area (39.75 m2/g) rather than PCP2-SO3H with higher surface (519.28 m2/g) exhibited more superior adsorption towards hydrophilic and cationic OMPs, benefiting by hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions as well as appropriate porosity. These results not only confirmed the performance enhancement of PCPs through the integration of novel preparation strategy, but also provided fundamental guidance for PCPs design for water remediation.

Abstract
The goal of taking out As(III) from water is to reduce the detriment that poisonous metals can do to people and nature. A substance that can absorb As(III), TFPOTDB-SO3H, was made by combining 2,5-diaminobenzenesulfonic acid and 2,4,6-tris-(4-formylphenoxy)-1,3,5-triazine in a reaction that joins molecules together. This substance can adsorb As(III) very well and has excellent qualities like being easy to use again, separate substances, and filter out liquids. At pH = 8 and at room temperature, TFPOTDB-SO3H adsorbed a lot of As(III). It achieved a removal rate of 97.1 % within 10 min and could adsorb up to 344.8 mg/g. A research was conducted to investigate the effect of co-existing anions on the elimination of arsenic. The findings indicated that the presence of anions had a minimal adverse impact, reducing As(III) uptake by approximately 1-7 %. The kinetics of the uptake process were found to be controlled by the quasi-second order kinetic model, while the Langmuir isotherm model validated that the mechanism for As(III) removal was monolayer chemisorption. According to the thermodynamic analysis, the adsorption process was endothermic and occurred spontaneously. Moreover, even after 4 successive adsorption-desorption cycles, the adsorbent preserved a substantial uptake productivity of 88.86 % for As(III). The results collectively indicate that TFPOTDB-SO3H holds considerable promise for the efficient adsorption and elimination of As(III) ions from wastewater.

Abstract
Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can interfere with the normal function of endocrine system, posing serious risk to human health. The monitoring of EDCs in foods is of great importance to ensure food security. Herein, a cyano and ionic dual-functionalized hypercrosslinked porous polymer (CN-iHCP) was designed and prepared for the first time through hyper-crosslink of 1-(4-cyanophenyl)imidazole and 1,4-bis(chloromethyl)benzene. The adsorption mechanism mainly involves electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interaction. A sensitive analytical method for simultaneous detection of the four phenolic EDCs was established by coupled CN-iHCP based solid-phase extraction with high performance liquid chromatography. Under optimal conditions, the target EDCs exhibited good linearity with coefficient r > 0.993 and high enrichment factors of 164-243. The detection limits (S/N = 3) of EDCs were 0.20-0.50 ng mL-1 for milk sample. The extraction recoveries for the spiked milk samples were in the range of 85.5%- 116.0%. This work not only highlights the CN-iHCP as a promising adsorbent to efficiently enrich EDCs and other pollutants, but also provides a new strategy for the functionalization of HCP for wide applications.

Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a type of crystalline porous polymers. It firstly prepared by thermodynamically controlled reversible polymerization to obtain chain units and connecting small organic molecular building units with a certain symmetry. These polymers are widely used in gas adsorption, catalysis, sensing, drug delivery, and many other fields. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) is a fast and simple sample pretreatment technology that can enrich analytes and improve the accuracy and sensitivity of analysis and detection; it is extensively employed in food safety detection, environmental pollutant analysis, and several other fields. How to improve the sensitivity, selectivity, and detection limit of the method during sample pretreatment have become a topic of great interest. COFs have recently been applied to sample pretreatment owing to their low skeleton density, large specific surface area, high porosity, good stability, facile design and modification, simple synthesis, and high selectivity. At present, COFs have also attracted extensive attention as new extraction materials in the field of SPE. These materials have been applied to the extraction and enrichment of diverse types of pollutants in food, environmental, and biological samples, such as heavy metal ions, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, phenol, chlorophenol, chlorobenzene, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, estrogen, drug residues, pesticide residues, etc. COFs can be synthesized from different materials and exert different effects on different extracts. New types of COFs can also be synthesized via modification to achieve better extraction effects. In this work, the main types and synthesis methods of COFs are introduced, and the most important applications of COFs in the fields of food, environment and biology in recent years are highlighted. The development prospects of COFs in the field of SPE are also discussed.

Abstract
Chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC) is one of the prevailing antibiotic pollutants that harm both environmental ecosystem and human health. Herein, Zr-based metal-organic gels (Zr-MOGs) with lower-coordinated active sites and hierarchically porous structures are fabricated via a facile straightforward room-temperature strategy for CTC treatment. More importantly, we incorporated the powder Zr-MOGs into low-cost sodium alginate (SA) matrix to achieve shaped Zr-based metal-organic gel/SA beads for enhancing the adsorption ability and ameliorating the recyclability. The Langmuir maximum adsorption capacities of Zr-MOGs and Zr-MOG/SA beads could reach 143.9 mg/g and 246.9 mg/g, respectively. What's more, in the manual syringe unit and continuous bead column experiments, Zr-MOG/SA beads could achieve an eluted CTC removal ratio as high as 93.6% and 95.5% in the real water sample, respectively. On top of that, the adsorption mechanisms were put forward as a combination of pore filling, electrostatic interaction, hydrophilic-lipophilic balance, coordination, π-π interaction as well as hydrogen bonding interaction. This study outlines a workable strategy for the facile preparation of candidate adsorbents for wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Indicator replacement assay combining with fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) effect has attractive performance in sensing small molecules, however, there wasn't application in pesticide molecule sensing reported so far. In this work, we prepared a nanocomplex (NCP), AuAgNCs-CD, through self-assembly of gold nanoclusters (AuNCs), silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) and carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin (CM-β-CD) by one-step method. The emission of AuNCs was significantly enhance. It was found that FRET between the AuAgNCs-CD and rhodamine B (RhB) existed after AuAgNCs-CD combined with RhB. And carbendazim (CBZ) could induce anti-FRET effect through competing with RhB and binding to AuAgNCs-CD. Thus, this phenomenon was utilized to develop a ratiometric fluorescent detection of CBA. This method was applied in food sample detection and reliable results were obtained. Due to high sensitivity, rapidness and good selectivity, this ratiometric fluorescent method was expected to hold high application potential in monitoring CBZ in foods.

Abstract
Herein, four amine-modified amphiphilic resins were synthesized and utilized as solid-phase extraction (SPE) materials to enrich pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) from environmental water. The obtained materials (Strong anion-exchange amphiphilic materials, SAAMs; Weak anion-exchange amphiphilic materials, WAAMs) possessed large specific surface area (473-626 m2/g), high ion exchange capacity (0.89-1.97 mmol/g), and small contact angle (74.41-79.74°), indicating good hydrophilicity. The main factors affecting the efficiency of the extraction process were studied, including column volume, column flow rate, sample salinity and sample pH. Notably, the trend observed in absolute recovery was significantly correlated with the Zeta potential of the employed adsorbents. Furthermore, based on the obtained materials, a method of SPE coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (SPE/LC-MS/MS) was developed, and then utilized to determine PPCPs in the samples collected from the Yangtze River Delta. The Method detection limit (MDL) and Method quantification limit (MQL) ranged from 0.05 to 0.60 ng/L and 0.17 to 2.00 ng/L, respectively, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) below 6.3%, demonstrating good accuracy and sensitivity. As evidenced by comparison with previous literature, the developed method exhibited satisfactory performance, showing great potential for further commercial application in the extraction of trace PPCPs from environmental water samples.

Abstract
Thiabendazole (TBZ) is a fungicide and anthelmintic drug commonly found in food products. Due to its toxicity and potential carcinogenicity, its determination in various samples is important for public health. Different analytical methods can be used to determine the presence and concentration of TBZ in samples. Liquid chromatography (LC) and its subtypes, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), are the most commonly used methods for TBZ determination representing 19%, 18%, and 18% of the described methods, respectively. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and fluorimetry are two more methods widely used for TBZ determination, representing 13% and 12% of the described methods, respectively. In this review, a number of methods for TBZ determination are described, but due to their limitations, there is a high potential for the further improvement and development of each method in order to obtain a simple, precise, and accurate method that can be used for routine analysis.

Abstract
Two novel stationary phases, 1-(4-bromobutyl)-3-methylimidazolium bromide bonded chitosan modified silica and 1-(4-bromobutyl)-3-methylimidazolium bromide bonded chitosan derivatized calix[4]arene modified silica stationary phase, were synthesized using 1-(4-bromobutyl)-3-methylimidazolium bromide bonding chitosan as a polarity regulator solving the limitation of the strong hydrophobicity of calixarene in the application of hydrophilic field. The resulting materials were characterized by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier-transform infrared spectra, scanning electron microscopy, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. Based on the hydrophilicity endowed by 1-(4-bromobutyl)-3-methylimidazolium bromide bonded chitosan, the retention mode of ILC-Sil and ILCC4-Sil could be effectively switched from the hydrophilic mode to a hydrophilic/hydrophobic mixed mode and could simultaneously provide various interactions with solutes, including hydrophilic, π-π, ion-exchange, inclusion, hydrophobic, and electrostatic interactions. On the basis of these interactions, successful separation and higher shape selectivity were achieved among compounds that vary in polarity under both reverse-phase and hydrophilic interactive liquid chromatography conditions. Moreover, the ILCC4-Sil was successfully applied to the determination of morphine in actual samples using solid-phase extraction and mass spectrometry. The LOD and LOQ were 15 pg/mL and 54 pg/mL, respectively. This work presents an exceptionally flexible adjustment strategy for the retention and selectivity of a silica stationary phase by tuning the modification group.

Abstract
In this work, a novel triazine-based porous organic polymers, TAPT-BPDD, was firstly synthesized by a facile method at room temperature. After characterized by FT-IR, FE-SEM, XRPD, TGA, and nitrogen-sorption experiments, TAPT-BPDD was applied as solid-phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent for the extraction of four trace nitrofuran metabolites (NFMs) from meat samples. The key parameters including the adsorbent dosage, sample pH, type and volume of eluents, type of washing solvents were evaluated in the extraction process. Combined with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS) analysis, good linear relationship (1-50 µg·kg-1, R2>0.9925) and low limits of detection (LODs, 0.05-0.56 µg·kg-1) were obtained under the optimal conditions. When spiked at different level, the recoveries were in the range of 72.7-111.6%. The adsorption isothermal model and extraction selectivity of TAPT-BPDD were also studied in detail. The results showed that TAPT-BPDD was a kind of promising SPE adsorbent for the enrichment of organics in food samples.

Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted impressive interest in separation on aqueous media. Herein, we integrated the stable vinylene-linked COFs with magnetic nanosphere via the monomer-mediated in situ growth strategy to construct a crystalline Fe3O4@v-COF composite for enrichment and determination of benzimidazole fungicides (BZDs) from complex sample matrices. The Fe3O4@v-COF has a crystalline assembly, high surface area, porous character together with a well-defined core-shell structure, and serves as progressive pretreatment materials for magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of BZDs. Adsorption mechanism studies revealed that the extended conjugated system and numerous polar cyan groups on v-COF provides abundant π-π and multiple hydrogen bonding sites, which are conducive to interact with BZDs collaboratively. Fe3O4@v-COF also displayed enrichment effects to various polar pollutions with conjugated structures and hydrogen-bonding sites. Fe3O4@v-COF-based MSPE-high-performance liquid chromatography exhibited the low limit of detection, wide linearity, and good precision. Moreover, Fe3O4@v-COF showed better stability, enhanced extraction performance, and more sustainable reusability in comparison with its imine-linked counterpart. This work proposes a feasible strategy on constructing the crystalline stable magnetic vinylene-linked COF composite for the determination of trace contaminants in complex food matrices.

Abstract
Efficient magnetic solid phase extraction using covalent organic frameworks (COFs) can find important applications in food safety. In this work, a sulfonate-functionalized magnetic COF (Fe3O4@COF-SO3Na) was synthesized by self-polycondensation of two-in-one monomer 1,6-bis(4-formylphenyl)-3,8-bis((4-aminophenyl) ethynyl)) pyrene (BFBAEPy) on the surface of aminated Fe3O4 and a thiol-yne click reaction. It was further adopted as an adsorbent for the efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of basic orange II. The selective adsorption experiment indicated that it displayed selective adsorption ability to basic orange II due to the ion exchange, hydrogen bonds, and π-π interactions. Under the optimized conditions, the proposed MSPE method coupled with HPLC-DAD showed excellent linearity in the range of 0.05-0.5 µg/mL (R2 = 0.9997) for basic orange II. The lower limits of detection (LODs) for basic orange II were 1.0-1.4 µg/L for three food samples: yellow croaker, paprika and dried bean curd. The recoveries were 90.1-98.8% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) below 4.2%. Therefore, this work provides an effective strategy to modify magnetic COFs as absorbents in MSPE. Due to the tunability of functional groups in thiol‑yne click reactions, the functional groups of magnetic COFs can be readily designed to enrich their multifunctional applications. Meanwhile, this work proposed a new method to detect trace amounts of basic orange II in food samples.

Abstract
AbstractA magnesium hydroxide co-precipitation sorbent-based method in the presence of an anionic surfactant (e.g., sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) and high-performance liquid chromatography were used to preconcentrate and analyze fungicides in water and apple juice samples. The preconcentration procedure can be accomplished in a single step based on the co-precipitation of target fungicides and magnesium chloride in the presence of surfactant in a sodium hydroxide solution (pH 11) and a white precipitate gel was simply obtained after centrifugation. The property of precipitate phase was subsequently characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometry. Under the optimum conditions, the developed method exhibited good sensitivity, with an enrichment factor of 11–18 and limits of detection of approximately 1–5 μg/L for water samples and 7–10 μg/L for apple juices. High reproducibility was achieved with a relative standard deviation of less than 11%, and a good recovery range of 72% to 120% was also obtained. The proposed method was shown to be a simple preconcentration procedure for concentrating fungicides in the samples investigated.

Abstract
In the field of thermal energy storage, organic phase change materials (PCMs) are widely used as functional materials to boost thermal applications. However, there is often a tradeoff between constructing shape-stable composite PCMs with high enthalpy value and those with low leakage rates. Here, we proposed a promising scheme to address this issue. A novel hydrogel consisting of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and covalent organic framework (COF) was prepared via hydrothermal methods, and the rGO-COF ultralight aerogel with a hierarchical porous structure was formed after freeze-drying. The rGO-COF aerogel shows excellent absorption ability and affinity for organic solvents. It can sufficiently adsorb the molten organic PCMs, such as polyethylene glycol (PEG), and synthesize shape-stable composite PCMs with excellent leak resistance. The COF grown on the surface of rGO has a superior affinity for PEG, so rGO-COF aerogel shows an outstanding PEG loading rate of up to 96.1 wt %, which is 1.7 wt % higher than that of rGO aerogel. In addition, the COF effectively reduces the subcooling of PEG/rGO-COF with 20.3%, compared to PEG/rGO. Meanwhile, the prepared PEG/rGO-COF exhibits extremely high enthalpy and relative enthalpy efficiency (164.6 J/g, 97.4%). This demonstrates that a promising direction was highlighte for the preparation of high-enthalpy shape-stable composite organic PCMs in this work.

Abstract
Fungicides can lead to soil and plant diseases after long-term enrichment in the environment; they can also penetrate deeper into the soil and groundwater by rainwater or irrigation, threatening the water environment and human health. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a simple, rapid, efficient, and sensitive analytical method for the detection of fungicides in the water environment. Sample pretreatment is important for the extraction and enrichment of pollutants from environmental water. Magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) is a new sample pretreatment method, which uses magnetic materials as adsorbents dispersed in solution, and rapid separation can be achieved by the aid of external magnets. Because of its advantages of short analytical time, less organic solvent consumption, and easy separation of adsorbents, MSPE has attracted much attention. The key to MSPE is the preparation of highly selective magnetic adsorbents. Covalent organic frameworks have the advantages of large surface area, good chemical and thermal stability, tunable porous structure, low density, and easy functionalization, all of which are ideal for adsorbing fungicides. The concentration of fungicides in environmental water is low. Ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) has high sensitivity and high selectivity, which is suitable for the analysis of fungicides. In this work, a magnetic covalent organic framework Fe3O4@TpBD was prepared by an in situ method, as the MSPE sorbent material to enrich of benzimidazole fungicides (thiabendazole, carbendazim, fuberidazole) and organic sulfur fungicide (isoprothiolane) in environmental water. An extraction method based on π-π conjugation, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic interaction between Fe3O4@TpBD and the fungicides, in combination with UHPLC-MS/MS, was developed for the determination of four trace fungicides in water. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were performed to confirm the successful synthesis of Fe3O4@TpBD and to characterize this material. A series of experiments were carried out to decide the optimal extraction conditions, i. e., the magnetic ratio and dosage of Fe3O4@TpBD, pH of the water sample, adsorption time, type and volume of the eluent, elution time, and salinity. Gradient elution was carried out with methanol-water as the mobile phase. The target analytes were separated on an ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column (100 mm×2.1 mm, 1.7 μm), and multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) was conducted in the positive electrospray ionization mode. The ion source temperature and ion source voltage were set to 500 ℃ and 5 kV, respectively. The analytical method was established under the optimized extraction conditions. The four fungicides showed good linearity in the range of 3-1200 ng/L, with linear correlation coefficients greater than 0.998. The limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantification (LOQs) of this developed method were 0.06-0.28 ng/L and 0.20-0.92 ng/L, respectively. Recovery tests were performed at three spiked levels of 15, 150, and 600 ng/L, with relative standard deviations of 2.8% to 10.0% (intra-day) and 4.4% to 15.7% (inter-day). The accuracy of the established analytical method was investigated by using it to test real water samples, and satisfactory recoveries for the four analytes were achieved within 77.1% to 119.1%. Trace amounts of carbendazim were detected in the reservoir water at 27.5 ng/L. The method has good sensitivity, accuracy, and precision, and the operation process is convenient.

Abstract
To improve the hydrophobicity and poor separability of hyper-cross-linked polymers (HCPs) in extraction, a porous magnetic adsorbent (Fe3O4@SHCP) was constructed by facile post-modification to introduce sulfonic acid groups and magnetic nanoparticles for the magnetic solid-phase extraction of heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs). Owing to the double extraction mechanism adopted by Fe3O4@SHCP, it has a high extraction efficiency for HAAs. Coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), 5 HAAs in baked cakes were detected at one time. Under optimal extraction conditions, the enrichment factor of HAAs was up to 952-986, with LODs at 0.05-0.3 ng·g-1. Based on the HPLC method, novel digital imaging colorimetry (DIC) was developed to accurately and rapidly monitor HAAs in cakes. Additionally, the established DIC method has been used to successfully evaluate the effect of baking temperature and duration on HAAs in baked cakes.

Abstract
Direct potentiometric measurements using solid-state sensors have a great potential for thiabendazole (TBZ) determination, considering simplicity, accuracy, and low cost. Modifying the sensing material of the sensor with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) leads to improved analytical properties of the sensor. In this study, a new potentiometric solid-state sensor for TBZ determination, based on MWCNTs modified with a sulfate group, and TBZ ion as sensing material was developed. The sensor exhibited a Nernstian response for TBZ (60.4 mV/decade of activity) in a working range between 8.6 × 10−7 and 1.0 × 10−3 M. The detection limit for TBZ was 6.2 × 10−7 M. The response time of the sensor for TBZ was 8 s, and its signal drift was only 1.7 mV/h. The new sensor is applicable for direct potentiometric determination of TBZ in complex real samples, such as fruit peel. The accuracy of TBZ determination is confirmed using the standard addition method.

Abstract
Carbendazim (CBZ) is a fungicide employed in grape crop disease controls, and its maximum residue limit in food is regulated by specialized agencies. This study aimed to determine the CBZ content in the grape juices in a semi-quantitative classification model based on portable Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy and partial least squares with discriminant analysis. The sensitivity and specificity of the obtained model ranged from 83 to 100%, with the external validation set. These results are therefore promising for industrial application, and the model presents robustness for the evaluation of grape juices produced from a different grape variety. The VIP scores allowed identifying important variables involved in class modeling. This study suggests a methodology that is fast and demands minimal sample preparation (only dilution), besides being less expensive compared to the traditional methods, free of reagent/solvent, contributing to quality control in the juice industry.

Abstract
Facile and sensitive determination of plant growth regulators (PGRs) in food samples is important but still remains great challenge. Herein, a pipette tip solid phase extraction (PT-SPE) method was developed for fast and sensitively detecting PGRs. The PT-SPE adsorbent was prepared by integrating a novel covalent organic framework (COF) of schiff base network 3 (SNW-3) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) through electrospinning. The SNW-3 can easily adsorb PGRs with high special affinity through electrovalent bands between the ammonium ions of SNW-3 and the carboxy groups of PGRs. The polymer of PAN acts as scaffold material for SNW-3, which can lower seepage pressure hence accelerates adsorption/desorption kinetics. By combination with HPLC-DAD, a satisfactory method was successfully developed for simultaneous determination of ten PGRs in watermelon. Good analytical performances were achieved with this proposed method, including good linearity (5-500 ng/mL) with high correlation coefficients (R ≥ 0.9981), low limits of detection (S/N = 3, 0.24-3.19 ng/mL) and limits of quantification (S/N = 10, 1.65-5.72 ng/mL), satisfactory precision (intra-day RSDs ≤ 2.7%, inter-day RSDs ≤ 3.7%), and high accuracy (recovery: 82.8-113.0%). The method developed in this study shows high potential for design of high target-affinity adsorbents for food sample preparing.

Abstract
The lack of functional groups or binding sites largely hindered the broad application of microporous organic networks (MONs). Herein, we report the fabrication of the sulfonate group-enriched magnetic MON composite (MMON-SO3H@SO3Na) via the combination of the sulfonic acid group containing the monomer and thiol-yne click postmodification for efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of benzimidazole fungicides (BZDs) from complex sample matrices. The well-defined core-shell-structured MMON-SO3H@SO3Na was obtained and served as an advanced adsorbent for MSPE for concentrating and monitoring trace BZDs. The MMON-SO3H@SO3Na with numerous sulfonate groups provides plenty of ion-exchange, hydrogen-bonding, and π-π sites, leading to the favorable affinity to BZDs via multiple interaction mechanisms. The MMON-SO3H@SO3Na-based MSPE-high-performance liquid chromatography method afforded a wide linear range, low limits of detection, large enrichment factors, good precisions, and reusability for BZDs. Trace BZDs in complex vegetables and fruit samples were successfully detected by the established method. The MMON-SO3H@SO3Na also exhibited good selectivity toward multiple types of polar contaminants containing hydrogen-bonding sites and aromatic structures. This work provided a new postsynthesis strategy for constructing novel and multifunctioned magnetic MONs for preconcentration of trace analytes in a complex matrix.

Abstract
A simple, accurate, and highly sensitive analytical method was developed in this study for the determination of ten β-agonists and five β-blockers in milk. In this method, new adsorbent phosphonic acid-functionalized porous organic polymers were synthesized through a direct knitting method. The synthesis procedure of the materials and the extraction conditions (such as the composition of loading buffer and eluent) were optimized. Benefitting from the high surface area (545–804 m2 g−1), multiple functional framework and good porosity, the phosphonic acid-functionalized porous organic polymers showed a high adsorption rate and high adsorption capacity for β-agonists (224 mg g−1 and 171 mg g−1 for clenbuterol and ractopamine, respectively). The analytes were quantified by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry. It showed a good linearity (with R2 ranging from 0.9950 to 0.9991 in the linear range of 3–5 orders of magnitude), with low limits of quantification ranging from 0.05 to 0.25 ng g−1. The limits of detection of the method for the analytes were measured to be in the range of 0.02 to 0.1 ng g−1. The recoveries of target analytes from real samples on the material were in the range of 62.4–119.4% with relative standard deviations of 0.6–12.1% (n = 4). Moreover, good reproducibility of the method was obtained with the interday RSD being lower than 11.7% (n = 5) and intraday RSD lower than 12.2% (n = 4). The proposed method was accurate, reliable and convenient for the simultaneous analysis of multiple β-agonists and β-blockers. Finally, the method was successfully applied for the analysis of such compounds in milk samples. Novel phosphonic acid-functionalized porous organic polymers were synthesized through direct knitting method. It shows high adsorption efficiency and high adsorption capacity for multiple β-agonists and β-blockers analysis.![]()

Abstract
Food safety is closely related to human health and life. Contaminated foods may result in illness or poisoning. For example, perfluorinated compounds can concentrate in the human body, or they can be transferred to the baby during breastfeeding, thus leading to serious health risks. Phthalate esters may cause damage to the liver, lungs, and kidneys. Therefore, food safety has become a hot topic at a global level. Poisonous and harmful substances in foods are derived from the environment, planting or breeding, food contacting materials, and food processing, or due to unsuitable storage conditions. Residues of pesticides and veterinary drugs, organic pollutants, additives, heavy metals, and biotoxins often hamper food safety, causing diseases or even death. The diversity of available food species, complexity of the sample matrix, and lack of information about the source of pollutants render the direct determination of food contaminants difficult. Pretreatment is vital for the accurate analysis of trace toxins in foods. Optimal pretreatment can not only improve the extract efficiency and determination sensitivity, but also prevent instrument contamination. Pretreatment techniques have played an important role in trace determination for complex matrices. Pretreatment methods can be classified as solvent-based and adsorption-based methods. Adsorption-based techniques such as solid-phase extraction, magnetic solid-phase extraction, and solid-phase microextraction are simple and efficient, and hence, are widely used. In these pretreatment techniques, adsorbents play a key role in the extraction effect. In the last few years, metal organic frameworks, metal oxide materials, carbon nanotubes, graphene, and magnetic nanoparticles, as well as a combination of these materials, have been used as adsorbents. These materials are porous and have a large surface area; they are used to enrich trace targets and eliminate interferents. Covalent organic polymers (COPs) are a class of organic porous materials constructed from organic monomers via covalent bonding. Given their excellent characteristics such as light density, good stability, high surface area, structural controllability, and ease of modification, COPs are potential adsorbents. COPs are often synthesized by solvent thermal methods. However, these methods are time-consuming and require toxic solvents and harsh reaction conditions. As alternatives, room-temperature methods, mechanical chemical methods, microwave-assisted methods, and UV-assisted methods have been developed. This has facilitated the synthesis of a wide range of COPs. In this article, the recent applications of COPs in sample pretreatment for food safety analysis are reviewed. COPs can be used in solid-phase extraction by simple packing into columns, polymerization, or chemical bonding in the capillary. Magnetic compounds have been prepared by one-pot synthesis, in situ growth, in situ reduction, or coprecipitation methods and used in magnetic solid-phase extraction. Coatings of solid-phase microextraction fibers are fabricated by physical methods, chemical bonding, sol-gel methods, or in situ growth. Toxic and harmful substances in foods and foodstuffs are efficiently extracted by exploiting the high adsorbent capacities and specificity of COPs. Future development prospects and challenges in sample pretreatment are also discussed herein. There is increased focus on the development of simple, efficient, and environment-friendly methods to synthesize COPs with specific functions; further, high-throughput, sensitive analytical methods may be established. In the future, more specific COPs will be prepared in a cost-effective manner for widespread use in sample pretreatment.

Abstract
Sample preparation is one of the most crucial steps in analytical processes. Commonly used methods, including solid-phase extraction, dispersive solid-phase extraction, dispersive magnetic solid-phase extraction, and solid-phase microextraction, greatly depend on the extraction materials. In recent decades, a vast number of materials have been studied and used in sample preparation for chromatography. Due to the unique structural properties, extraction materials significantly improve the performance of extraction devices. Endowing extraction materials with suitable structural properties can shorten the pretreatment process and improve the extraction efficiency and selectivity. To understand the structure-performance relationships of extraction materials, this review systematically summarizes the structural properties, including the pore size, pore shape, pore volume, accessibility of active sites, specific surface area, functional groups and physicochemical properties. The mechanisms by which the structural properties influence the extraction performance are also elucidated in detail. Finally, three principles for the design and synthesis of extraction materials are summarized. This review can provide systematic guidelines for synthesizing extraction materials and preparing extraction devices.

Abstract
For survival and quality of life, human society has sought more productive, precise, and sustainable agriculture. Agrochemistry, which solves farming issues in a chemical manner, is the core engine that drives the evolution of modern agriculture. To date, agrochemistry has utilized chemical technologies in the form of pesticides, fertilizers, veterinary drugs and various functional materials to meet fundamental demands from human society, while increasing the socio-ecological consequences due to inefficient use. Thus, more useful, precise, and designable scaffolding materials are required to support sustainable agrochemistry. Reticular chemistry, which weaves molecular units into frameworks, has been applied in many fields based on two cutting-edge porous framework materials, namely metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent-organic frameworks (COFs). With flexibility in composition, structure, and pore chemistry, MOFs and COFs have shown increasing functionalities associated with agrochemistry in the last decade, potentially introducing reticular chemistry as a highly accessible chemical toolbox into agrochemical technologies. In this critical review, we will demonstrate how reticular chemistry shapes the future of agrochemistry in the fields of farm sensing, agro-ecological preservation and reutilization, agrochemical formulations, smart indoor farming, agrobiotechnology, and beyond.

Abstract
A novel sulfonate-bonded covalent organic polymer (COPTPBA-BPDA@SA) with mixed-mode interactions of hydrophobic and cation-exchange was synthesized and exploited as sorbent for on-line solid-phase extraction (on-line SPE) of ß2-receptor agonists. The successful synthesis of COPTPBA-BPDA@SA was confirmed by the characterization of SEM, XPS and FT-IR. Due to the excellent mixed-mode extraction ability towards the positively charged ß2-receptor agonists and the good anti-interference performance, COPTPBA-BPDA@SA was introduced into on-line SPE-HPLC system for selective extraction of ß2-receptor agonists in pork and pork liver. Via the optimization of the extraction condition, including formic acid percentage and ACN percentage in the sampling solution, the mixed-mode extraction mechanism of COPTPBA-BPDA@SA was investigated. The elution condition, such as the pH value, formic acid percentage and ACN percentage of the eluent was also optimized for the desired SPE performance. Under the optimized condition, COPTPBA-BPDA@SA revealed better purification performance than COPTPBA-BPDA without sulfonating. The LODs for ß2-receptor agonists were in the range of 0.08-0.22 μg/kg, and the recoveries in different samples at three spiked levels (0.4, 4.0, 8.0 μg/kg) were ranged from 83.2% to 98.5% with RSDs less than 5.2%, which indicated the satisfactory mixed-mode extraction ability of COPTPBA-BPDA@SA as well as the good applicability of the developed method.

Facile synthesis of magnetic sulfonated covalent organic framework composites for simultaneous dispersive solid-phase extraction and determination of β-agonists and fluoroquinolones in food samples. Abstract
In this work, an efficient method for the determination of β-agonists and fluoroquinolones was established, based on a mixed-mode sorbent of magnetic sulfonated covalent organic framework composites. By coupling with HPLC-MS/MS, the main factors that affect the extraction procedure were optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the proposed HPLC-MS/MS method was successfully utilized for the extraction of β-agonists and fluoroquinolones in milk and pork meat samples. The method showed good linearities (R2 ≥ 0.9916), and low LOQs of 0.1-0.2 ng g-1 for β-agonists and fluoroquinolones. The adsorption mechanism was investigated with the assistance of quantum chemistry calculation method, and it is worth noting that the sorbent relied mainly on the multiple adsorption mechanisms, including π-π stacking, hydrophobic, electrostatic attraction and hydrogen-bonding interactions. This work not only provides a simple method for the preparation of a mixed-mode sorbent, but also a routine analysis strategy for monitoring the illegal use of β-agonists and fluoroquinolones.

Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) can be classified as emerging porous crystalline polymers with extremely high porosity and surface area size, and good thermal stability. These properties have awakened the interests of many areas, opening new horizons of research and applications. In the Analytical Chemistry field, COFs have found an important application in sample preparation approaches since their inherent properties clearly match, in a good number of cases, with the ideal characteristics of any extraction or clean-up sorbent. The review article is meant to provide a detailed overview of the different COFs that have been used up to now for sample preparation (i.e., solid-phase extraction in its most relevant operational modes-conventional, dispersive, magnetic/solid-phase microextraction and stir-bar sorptive extraction); the extraction devices/formats in which they have been applied; and their performances and suitability for this task.
