Abstract
In this study, three small peptoids with different structures, named Sil-peptoids, were developed to improve the separation selectivity of zwitterion-exchange/reversed-phase mixed-mode chromatography stationary phases for multi-component complex drugs. Nonpolar, amphoteric, and alkaline drugs were used as test samples to demonstrate their retention behaviors in reversed-phase, ionic, and mixed-mode interactions. It was observed that different carboxyl anions in the small peptoids of the Sil-peptoids had vast differences in their stereo-selectivity. The stereo-selectivity and the influence of Sil-peptoids on the retention behavior of complex drugs and their interaction mechanism for the drug molecules were effectively evaluated through the combination of chromatographic analysis and molecular modeling. Finally, a mixture of drugs consisting of two polar and six non-polar drugs was used to obtain a separation effect with a resolution >1.5. Two other groups of polar antibiotics were used to verify the separation ability of the Sil-peptoids. The results indicated that the Sil-peptoids could separate multiple substances simultaneously. These novel stationary phases can be applied to the analysis of complex multi-component drugs.

Abstract
Chemotherapy fails to achieve an ideal gliomas therapy due to the limited delivery of chemotherapeutics across the blood brain barrier (BBB), difficult accumulation of drugs in the gliomas area, and off-target toxicity. Herein, the pH-triggered small molecule nano-prodrugs (Try-CA-NPs) emulsified from hydrophobic tryptamine (Try)-cinnamaldehyde (CA) twin drug were successfully prepared through a facile method. Try-CA-NPs exhibited long-term storage and circulation stability. Furthermore, liposoluble Try-CA-NPs could easily cross BBB and efficiently accumulate in brain, selectively target to gliomas cells via Try-mediated cellular uptake, and enhance cytotoxicity through intracellular pH-triggered endosomal escape and efficient drug release, and synergistic effect between CA and Try, therefore achieving the complete destruction of SH-SY5Y multicellular spheroids (MCs). Thus, the pH-triggered small molecule nano-prodrugs emulsified from Try-CA twin drug have the great potential for clinically targeted synergistic glioma therapy.

Abstract
Mixed-mode phases have become very popular in the last decade, and the number of new mixed/multi-mode sorbents is growing fast. Unlike single-mode stationary phases, perfectly suited for the separation of the analytes possessing similar physicochemical properties, for instance reversed-phase chromatography for hydrophobic solutes, mixed-mode sorbents providing multimodal interactions can render better separation selectivity for complex mixtures of solutes differing significantly in their physicochemical characteristics. The most frequent modern mixed-mode stationary phases are di/tri-mode sorbents embracing the following interactions, hydrophobic, electrostatic (coulombic), and hydrophilic. According to their structures, it is possible to distinguish silica-based, polymer-based, hybrid, and monolithic mixed-mode stationary phases. Herewith, newly synthesized mixed-mode sorbents developed within the last two and half years are categorized, discussed, and summarized. The main attention is devoted to the description of the synthetic routes and characterization methods applied for the new stationary phases.
