Model of the Performance Based on Artificial Intelligence-Fuzzy Logic Description of Physical Activity

The aim of the study was to build a fuzzy model of lower limb peak torque in an isokinetic mode. The study involved 93 male participants (28 male deaf soccer players, 19 hearing soccer players and 46 deaf untraining male). A fuzzy computational model of different levels of physical activity with a focus on the lower limbs was constructed. The proposed fuzzy model assessing lower limb peak torque in an isokinetic mode demonstrated its effectiveness. The novelty of our research lies in the use of hierarchical fuzzy logic to extract computational rules from data provided explicitly and then to determine the corresponding physiological and pathological mechanisms. The contribution of our research lies in complementing the methods for describing physiology, pathology and rehabilitation with fuzzy parameters, including the so-called dynamic norm embedded in the model.

Social Sustainability and Resilience in Supply Chains of Latin America on COVID-19 Times: Classification Using Evolutionary Fuzzy Knowledge

The number of research papers interested in studying the social dimension of supply chain sustainability and resilience is increasing in the literature. However, the social dimension is complex, with several uncertainty variables that cannot be expressed with a traditional Boolean logic of totally true or false. To cope with uncertainty, Fuzzy Logic allows the development of models to obtain crisp values from the concept of fuzzy linguistic variables. Using the Structural Equation Model by Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and Evolutionary Fuzzy Knowledge, this research aims to analyze the predictive power of social sustainability characteristics on supply chain resilience performance in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with representative cases from Mexico and Chile. We validate our approach using the Chile database for training our model and the Mexico database for testing. The fuzzy knowledge database has a predictive power of more than 80%, using social sustainability features as inputs regarding supply chain resilience in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic disruption. To our knowledge, no works in the literature use fuzzy evolutionary knowledge to study social sustainability in correlation with resilience. Moreover, our proposed approach is the only one that does not require a priori expert knowledge or a systematic mathematical setup.

Estimation of cardiac stroke volume from radial pulse waveform by artificial neural network

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES

Stroke volume (SV) and cardiac output (CO) are the key indicators for the evaluation of cardiac function and hemodynamic status during the perioperative period, which are very important in the detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Traditional CO and SV measurement methods have problems such as complex operation, low precision and poor generalization ability.

METHODS

In this paper, a method for estimating stroke volume based on cascade artificial neural network (ANN) and time domain features of radial pulse waveform (SV_ANN) was proposed. The simulation datasets of 4000 radial pulse waveforms and stroke volume (SV_meas) were generated by a 55 segment transmission line model of the human systemic vasculature and a recursive algorithm. The ANN was trained and tested by 10-fold cross-validation, and compared with 12 traditional models.

RESULTS

Experimental results showed that the Pearson correlation coefficients and mean difference between SV_ANN and SV_meas (R=0.95, mean standard deviation (SD) = 0.00 ± 6.45) were better than the best results of the 12 traditional models. Moreover, as increasing the number of training samples, the performance improvement of the ANN (R=0.94(Δ + 0.04), mean ± SD = 0.00 ± 6.38(Δ± 2.02)) was better than the other best model, namely, multiple linear regression model (MLR) (R=0.93(Δ + 0.03), mean ± SD = 0.00 ± 6.99(Δ± 1.50)).

CONCLUSIONS

A method is proposed to estimate cardiac stroke volume by the ANN with time domain features of radial pulse wave. It avoids the complicated modeling process based on hemodynamics within traditional models, improves the estimation accuracy of SV, and has a good generalization ability.

Artificial Intelligence for Detection of Cardiovascular-Related Diseases from Wearable Devices: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

PURPOSE

Several artificial intelligence (AI) models for the detection and prediction of cardiovascular-related diseases, including arrhythmias, diabetes, and sleep apnea, have been reported. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify AI models developed for or applicable to wearable and mobile devices for diverse cardiovascular-related diseases.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The searched databases included Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library. For AI models for atrial fibrillation (AF) detection, a meta-analysis of diagnostic accuracy was performed to summarize sensitivity and specificity.

RESULTS

A total of 102 studies were included in the qualitative review. There were AI models for the detection of arrythmia (n=62), followed by sleep apnea (n=11), peripheral vascular diseases (n=6), diabetes mellitus (n=5), hyper/hypotension (n=5), valvular heart disease (n=4), heart failure (n=3), myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest (n=2), and others (n=4). For quantitative analysis of 26 studies reporting AI models for AF detection, meta-analyzed sensitivity was 94.80% and specificity was 96.96%. Deep neural networks showed superior performance [meta-analyzed area under receiver operating characteristics curve (AUROC) of 0.981] compared to conventional machine learning algorithms (meta-analyzed AUROC of 0.961). However, AI models tested with proprietary dataset (meta-analyzed AUROC of 0.972) or data acquired from wearable devices (meta-analyzed AUROC of 0.977) showed inferior performance than those with public dataset (meta-analyzed AUROC of 0.986) or data from in-hospital devices (meta-analyzed AUROC of 0.983).

CONCLUSION

This review found that AI models for diverse cardiovascular-related diseases are being developed, and that they are gradually developing into a form that is suitable for wearable and mobile devices.
