Abstract
Gemini surfactants exhibit better adsorption and aggregation properties than those of monomeric surfactants. However, to enhance the functional properties of gemini surfactants, the effect of spacer structures on their aggregation behavior must be elucidated. Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) has been performed to study the aggregate structures of monomeric surfactants, but its application has not been expanded to the analysis of gemini surfactants. Therefore, in this study, we performed a structural analysis of aggregates formed by quaternary ammonium salt-based gemini surfactants with different spacer structures in aqueous solutions through viscosity, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and SAXS measurements. We also investigated the effects of the spacer structure and surfactant concentration on the aggregation behavior. The DLS results indicated that gemini surfactants with spacers containing cyclic structures, such as diethylene and triethylene chains, formed small micelles (several nanometers in size) at the limiting concentration for dissolution in water. In contrast, gemini surfactants with nitrogen and oxygen atoms at the center of the spacer formed ellipsoidal micelles at low concentrations, as shown by SAXS results. The core and overall radii of the minor and major axes of the ellipsoidal micelles decreased with increasing surfactant concentration and were larger for spacers with two ethylene chains connected to central nitrogen and oxygen atoms than for spacers with rigid diethylene and ethylene chains connected to a central nitrogen atom.

Abstract
A synthesis procedure and aggregation properties of a new homologous series of dicationic gemini surfactants with a dodecane spacer and two carbamate fragments (N,N'-dialkyl-N,N'-bis(2-(ethylcarbamoyloxy)ethyl)-N,N'-dimethyldodecan-1,6-diammonium dibromide, n-12-n(Et), where n = 10, 12, 14) were comprehensively described. The critical micelle concentrations of gemini surfactants were obtained using tensiometry, conductometry, spectrophotometry, and fluorimetry. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption and micellization, i.e., maximum surface excess (Гmax), the surface area per surfactant molecule (Amin), degree of counterion binding (β), and Gibbs free energy of micellization (∆Gmic), were calculated. Functional activity of the surfactants, including the solubilizing capacity toward Orange OT and indomethacin, incorporation into the lipid bilayer, minimum inhibitory concentration, and minimum bactericidal and fungicidal concentrations, was determined. Synthesized gemini surfactants were further used for the modification of liposomes dual-loaded with α-tocopherol and donepezil hydrochloride for intranasal treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The obtained liposomes have high stability (more than 5 months), a significant positive charge (approximately + 40 mV), and a high degree of encapsulation efficiency toward rhodamine B, α-tocopherol, and donepezil hydrochloride. Korsmeyer-Peppas, Higuchi, and first-order kinetic models were used to process the in vitro release curves of donepezil hydrochloride. Intranasal administration of liposomes loaded with α-tocopherol and donepezil hydrochloride for 21 days prevented memory impairment and decreased the number of Aβ plaques by 37.6%, 40.5%, and 72.6% in the entorhinal cortex, DG, and CA1 areas of the hippocampus of the brain of transgenic mice with Alzheimer's disease model (APP/PS1) compared with untreated animals.

Abstract
Efficient, environmentally and economically sustainable, and nontoxic antibacterial products are of global relevance in the fight against microorganism contamination. In this work, an easy and straightforward method for the synthesis of bis-morpholino triazine quaternary ammonium salts (bis-mTQAS) is reported, starting from 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine or 2,4-dichloro-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine and various N-alkylmorpholines. Bis-mTQAS were tested as antimicrobials against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial strains. The best-performing bis-mTQAS were found to achieve total disinfection against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 at 50 and 400 μg/mL, respectively. Distinctively, bis-mTQAS with the highest antimicrobial efficiency had lowest cytotoxicity.

Abstract
The first examples of highly efficient antimicrobial triazine-derived bis imidazolium quaternary ammonium salts (TQAS) are reported. TQAS have been prepared with an easy, atom efficient, economically sustainable strategy and tested as antimicrobial agents, reaching MIC values below 10 mg L-1. Distinctively, TQAS have low MIC and low cytotoxicity.

Abstract
Cationic gemini surfactants with polymethylene spacer and linear alkyl chains containing an even number of carbon atoms have been extensively studied in the recent past, with the emphasis put on the determination of their aggregation behaviour in aqueous solution and their biological properties. However, the information on the aggregation of branched gemini surfactants with an odd number of carbon atoms in their alkyl chains is only sparsely reported in the literature. To help cover this gap in the research of cationic gemini surfactants, a series of branched bisammonium cationic gemini surfactants with an odd number of carbon atoms in alkyl chains (tridecane-2-yl chains) and a polymethylene spacer with a variable length ranging from 3 to 12 carbon atoms have been synthesized and investigated. Critical micelle concentration, which was determined by three methods, was found to be in the order 10-4 mol/L. A comparison of the obtained data of the novel series of tridecyl chain geminis with those of gemini surfactants with dodecyl chains and an identical spacer structure revealed that structural differences between both series of gemini surfactants result in different aggregation and surface properties for surfactants with 6 and 8 methylene groups in the spacer (N,N'-bis(tridecane-2-yl)-N,N,N',N'-tetramethylhexane-1,6-diaminium dibromide and N,N'-bis(tridecane-2-yl)-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyloctane-1,8-diaminium dibromide) with the cmc values 8.2 × 10-4 mol/L and 6.5 × 10-4 mol/L, respectively, as determined by surface tension measurements. Particle size analysis showed the formation of small stable spherical micelles in the interval between 2.8 and 5 nm and with zeta potential around +50 mV, which are independent of surfactant concentration and increase with the increasing spacer length. Microbicidal activity of 13-s-13 gemini surfactants was found to be efficient against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and yeast.
