Abstract
BACKGROUND Neonicotinoids are among the most essential chemical insecticides worldwide because of their high activity against many important pests and wide application. However, their application is limited by their toxicity to honeybees. Therefore, the development of a facile route to fabricate efficient and eco-friendly pesticide formulations is of great significance. RESULTS In this study, clothianidin-loaded zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (CLO@ZIF-8) nanoparticles were fabricated by a facile one-pot route using zinc nitrate as a Zn2+ source and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, energy-dispersive spectrometry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Based on the pH response of ZIF-8, a 'burst release effect' was observed for CLO@ZIF-8 at pH 3 and 5 within 12 h, in contrast to the slow and sustainable release at pH 8. CLO@ZIF-8 improved the retention ability of the pesticide liquid and remained 70% control efficacy on Nilaparvata lugens after water rinsed of sprayed CLO@ZIF-8. The pH response of CLO@ZIF-8 allowed it to maintain 43% control efficacy against N. lugens after 10 days of application, which was twice the efficacy of clothianidin solution (SCA). Moreover, CLO@ZIF-8 reduced the acute toxicity to honeybees (Apis mellifera) by ≥120-fold compared with SCA. CONCLUSION This study provides new insights into the application of ZIF-8 to neonicotinoids and suggests the need for the development of a biocompatible and eco-friendly pesticide formulation. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Incorporating polydopamine has become a viable method for membrane modification due to its universality and versatility. Fillers in their different categories have been confirmed as effective elements to improve the properties of membranes such as hydrophilicity, permeability, mechanical strength, and fouling resistance. Thus, this paper mainly highlights the recent studies that have been carried out using polydopamine and nanomaterial fillers simultaneously in modifying the performance of different membranes such as ultrafiltration, microfiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, and forward osmosis membranes according to the various modification methods. Graphene oxide nanoparticles have recently attracted a lot of attention among different nanoparticles used with polydopamine, due to their impressive characteristics impacts on enhancing membrane hydrophilicity, mechanical strength, and fouling resistance. Thus, the incorporation techniques of graphene oxide nanoparticles and polydopamine for enhancing membranes have been highlighted in this work. Moreover, different studies carried out on using polydopamine as a nanofiller for optimizing membrane performance have been discussed. Finally, perspectives, and possible paths of further research on mussel-inspired polydopamine and nanoparticles co-incorporation are stated according to the progress made in this field. It is anticipated that this review would provide benefits for the scientific community in designing a new generation of polymeric membranes for the treatment of different feed water and wastewater based on adhesive mussel inspired polydopamine polymer and nanomaterials combinations.

Abstract
Developing high-performance membranes is an extremely significant strategy to combat increasing severe oil pollution. However, most of the previously reported superwettable membranes have been inevitably involved with the use of toxic solvents and complicated preparation processes. In addition, most of them lacked the capacity of separating crude oil-in-water emulsions. Herein, a facile and green strategy is employed to fabricate a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane with a mixed suspension of PDA@ZIF-8 and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) using water as a solvent via the vacuum filtration method. Combining hydrophilic property with micro-nano-roughness, the CMC-PDA@ZIF-8-coated PTFE membrane (CPZP membrane) exhibits excellent underwater superoleophobicity. More importantly, the separation efficiency of various surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions including crude oil/water emulsion is higher than 99.2% with a flux up to 1306.5 L m-2 h-1, and the separation performance remains nearly the same after 10 cycles. Moreover, outstanding underwater superoleophobic and self-cleaning properties are maintained after long-distance sandpaper abrasion and multiple bending tests. Meanwhile, its exceptional separation performance is still maintained in harsh environments (3.5 wt % NaCl, 1 M HCl, 60 °C hot water) even after immersing it for 24 h. Therefore, this green-prepared and high-performance membrane has tremendous application prospects in treating oily wastewater.

Abstract
A series of Fe3O4-graphene oxide (GO) composite materials (MGOs) with abundant surface area, rich oxygen-containing functional groups, and magnetic properties were prepared in a facile coprecipitation method and then employed for the adsorptive removal of methylene blue (MB) from water. The kinetic data were better fitted in the pseudo-second-order model than in the pseudo-first-order model, and the intraparticle diffusion model revealed the two-step diffusion process including diffusion in the boundary layer and in the porous structures. The maximum adsorption amounts of MB were calculated to be 37.5-108 mg/g at 25 °C and pH 9 using the Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic study showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous, with ΔH° of 23.0-49.6 kJ/mol and ΔS° of 131-249 J∙mol-1∙K-1. The adsorption amount of MB increased with pH in the range of 4-10. Inorganic ions including Na+ and Ca2+ suppressed the adsorption of MB, and the more pronounced impact of Ca2+ was ascribed to its higher valence state. The cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant showed a stronger inhibitory effect than Ca2+. The adsorption mechanism was proposed to be a combination of electrostatic interactions, hydrophobic adsorption, and electron donor-acceptor interactions. Two methods were used for the regeneration of spent MGO, and the results showed that the peroxomonosulfate (PMS) oxidation method was more favorable than the acid washing method, considering the better regeneration ability and lower amount of washing water used. Finally, the reaction mechanism of PMS oxidation was analyzed based on quenching tests and in situ open circuit potential measurements, which proved that OH and 1O2 played dominant roles and that the fine adsorption ability of MGO promoted the reaction between them and MB.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as nanozymes have been widely used in biosensing. However, MOFs have inherent defects of easy agglomeration, leading to the stacking of active surfaces. In addition, the low conductivity of MOFs is not conducive to the electron migration in the Fenton-like reaction, which leads to a further decrease in catalytic activity and severely restricts their application. In response to the above problems, it makes sense to develop a method to improve both the dispersion and conductivity of MOFs. Here, a simple ligand exchange method with polydopamine (PDA) was used to synthesize MOF PDA-MIL-88B. PDA-MIL-88B shows stronger peroxidase-like activity than MIL-88B. One reason is the good dispersibility of PDA-MIL-88B, which is conducive to exposing the active surface. In addition, the reduced electrochemical impedance of PDA-MIL-88B increases its electrical conductivity, which is favorable for electron migration in the Fenton-like reaction. As a result, PDA-MIL-88B can better catalyze 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine to achieve redoximorphic color changes. PDA-MIL-88B can be used to detect glucose in human serum with good sensitivity and selectivity. This work can provide a strategy for MOFs to enhance the enzyme-like activity.
