Abstract
The photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) represents an attractive approach for solar-energy storage and leads to the production of renewable fuels and valuable chemicals. Although some osmium (Os) photosensitizers absorb long wavelengths in the visible-light region, a self-photosensitized, mononuclear Os catalyst for red-light-driven CO2 reduction has not yet been exploited. Here, we discovered that the introduction of an Os metal to a PNNP-type tetradentate ligand resulted in the absorption of light with longer-wavelength (350-700 nm) and that can be applied to a panchromatic self-photosensitized catalyst for CO2 reduction to give mainly carbon monoxide (CO) with a total turnover number (TON) of 625 under photoirradiation (λ≥400 nm). CO2 photoreduction also proceeded under irradiation with blue (λ0=405 nm), green (λ0=525 nm), or red (λ0=630 nm) light to give CO with >90 % selectivity. The quantum efficiency using red light was determined to be 12 % for the generation of CO. A catalytic mechanism is proposed based on the detection of intermediates using various spectroscopic techniques, including transient absorption, electron paramagnetic resonance, and UV/Vis spectroscopy.

Abstract
Modeling the dynamics of non-bound states in molecules requires an accurate description of how electronic motion affects nuclear motion and vice-versa. The exact factorization (XF) approach offers a unique perspective, in that it provides potentials that act on the nuclear subsystem or electronic subsystem, which contain the effects of the coupling to the other subsystem in an exact way. We briefly review the various applications of the XF idea in different realms, and how features of these potentials aid in the interpretation of two different laser-driven dissociation mechanisms. We present a detailed study of the different ways the coupling terms in recently-developed XF-based mixed quantum-classical approximations are evaluated, where either truly coupled trajectories, or auxiliary trajectories that mimic the coupling are used, and discuss their effect in both a surface-hopping framework as well as the rigorously-derived coupled-trajectory mixed quantum-classical approach.

Abstract
We present a detailed derivation of the generalized coupled-trajectory mixed quantum-classical (G-CT-MQC) algorithm based on the exact-factorization equations. The ultimate goal is to propose an algorithm that can be employed for molecular dynamics simulations of nonradiative phenomena, as the spin-allowed internal conversions and the spin-forbidden intersystem crossings. Internal conversions are nonadiabatic processes driven by the kinetic coupling between electronic states, whereas intersystem crossings are mediated by the spin-orbit coupling. In this paper, we discuss computational issues related to the suitable representation for electronic dynamics and the different natures of kinetic and spin-orbit coupling. Numerical studies on model systems allow us to test the performance of the G-CT-MQC algorithm in different situations.

Abstract
Cyclometalated Ir(III) compounds are the preferred choice as organic emitters in organic light-emitting diodes. In practice, the presence of the transition metal surrounded by carefully designed ligands allows fine-tuning of the emission frequency as well as good efficiency of the device. To support the development of new compounds, experimental measurements are generally compared with absorption and emission spectra obtained from ab initio calculations. The standard approach for these calculations is time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) with a hybrid exchange-correlation functional like B3LYP. Because of the size of these compounds, the application of more complex quantum chemistry approaches can be challenging. In this work, we used many-body perturbation theory approaches, in particular the GW approximation with the Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) implemented in Gaussian basis sets, to calculate the quasiparticle properties and the absorption spectra of six cyclometalated Ir(III) complexes, going beyond TDDFT. In the presented results, we compared standard TDDFT simulations with BSE calculations performed on top of perturbative G0W0 and accounting for eigenvalue self-consistency. Moreover, in order to investigate in detail the effect of the DFT starting point, we concentrated on Ir(ppy)3 and performed GW-BSE simulations starting from different DFT exchange-correlation potentials.

Abstract
We investigate spin-orbit interactions in ultrafast molecular processes employing the exact factorization of the electron-nuclear wave function. We revisit the original derivation by including spin-orbit coupling, and show how the dynamics driven by the time-dependent potential energy surface alleviates inconsistencies arising from different electronic representations. We propose a novel trajectory-based scheme to simulate spin-forbidden non-radiative processes, and we show its performance in the treatment of excited-state dynamics where spin-orbit effects couple different spin multiplets.

Abstract
The electronic structures and spectroscopic properties of two complexes [M(pic)3] (M = Ir, Rh) containing picolinate as bidentate ligands have been calculated by means density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT/TD-DFT using three hybrid functionals B3LYP, PBE0 and mPW1PW91. The PBE0 and mPW1PW91 functionals, which have the same HF exchange fraction (25%), give similar results and do not differ drastically from B3LYP results. Calculated geometric parameters of the complexes are in good agreement with the available experimental data. The UV absorptions observed in acetonitrile were assigned on the basis of singlet state transitions. The most intense band observed in the UV-C region corresponds to ligand-to-ligand charge transfer states (LLCT) in both complexes. The theoretical spectrum of the rhodium complex is characterized by a large degree of mixing between metal-to-ligand-charge-transfer (MLCT), LLCT and metal centered (MC) states in the UV-A region. The presence of low-lying excited states with MC character affects the absorption spectrum under spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effects and play important roles in the photochemical properties. Graphical abstract Frontier molecular orbital diagram of mer-M(pic)3 (M=Ir, Rh).

Abstract
Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations have been performed in order to investigate the relaxation dynamics of uracil after UV excitation in gas phase. Intersystem crossing (ISC) has been included for the first time into time-dependent simulations of uracil, allowing the system to relax in the singlet as well as in the triplet states. The results show a qualitatively different picture than similar simulations that include singlet states only. The inclusion of ISC effectively quenches the relaxation to the singlet ground state and instead privileges transitions from the low-lying nπ* state (S1) to a ππ* triplet state (T2) followed by rapid internal conversion to the lowest triplet state.

Abstract
Theoretical “spin-free” (in black) and “spin–orbit” (in red) absorption spectra of [Pt(tpy)Cl]+ and electronic densities characterizing the main intense bands MLCT/XLCT at 384 nm, and MLCT/LC at 326 nm and 250 nm (the experimental spectrum is shown in the inset).
