Quantitative analysis of CL-20 explosive by smartphone-based chemiluminescence method

A new smartphone-based chemiluminescence method has been introduced for the quantitative analysis of CL-20 (Hexanitroazaisowuertzitan) explosive. The solvent mixture, oxidizer agent, and concentration of the reactants were optimized using statistical procedures. CL-20 explosive showed a quenching effect on the chemiluminescence intensity of the luminol-NaClO reaction in the solvent mixture of DMSO/H2O. A smartphone was used as a detector to record the light intensity of chemiluminescence reaction as a video file. The recorded video file was converted to an analytical signal as intensity luminescence-time curve by a written code in MATLAB software. Dynamic range and limit of detection of the proposed method were obtained 2.0-240.0 and 1.1 mg⋅L-1, respectively, in optimized concentrations 1.5 × 10-3 mol⋅L-1 luminol and 1.0 × 10-2 mol⋅L-1 NaClO. Precursors TADB, HBIW, and TADNIW in CL-20 explosive synthesis did not show interference in measurement the CL-20 purity. The analysis of CL-20 spiked samples of soil and water indicated the satisfactory ability of the method in the analysis of real samples. The interaction of CL-20 molecules and OCl- ions is due to quench of chemiluminescence reaction of the luminol-NaClO.

Recent Advances in the Applications of the Intramolecular Suzuki Cross-coupling Reaction in Cyclization and Heterocyclization: An Update

The palladium-catalyzed reaction of aryl halide and boronic acid for the formation of C–C bonds so-called Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction has many applications in Modern Synthetic Organic Chemistry. In 2013, we emphasized the applications of the intramolecular Suzuki cross-coupling reaction in cyclization and heterocyclization. Due to a plethora relevant papers appeared in the chemical literature, herein, we wish to cover by updating our previous review, the applications of the intramolecular Suzuki cross-coupling reaction in cyclization and heterocyclization leading to various homocyclic and heterocyclic compounds reported during a period of 2013 to 2018.

Predicting the Initial Thermal Decomposition Path of Nitrobenzene Caused by Mode Vibration at Moderate-Low Temperatures: Temperature-Dependent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectra Experiments and First-Principals Calculations

The lack of understanding of the initial decomposition micromechanism of energetic materials subjected to external stimulation has hindered its safe storage, usage, and development. The initial thermal decomposition path of nitrobenzene triggered by molecular thermal motion is investigated using temperature-dependent anti-Stokes Raman spectra experiments and first-principles calculations to clarify the initial thermal decomposition micromechanism. The experiment shows that the symmetric nitro stretching, antisymmetric nitro stretching, and phenyl ring stretching vibration modes are active as increasing temperature below 500 K. The DFT method is used to examine the effects of the three mode vibrations on the initial decomposition of nitrobenzene by relaxed scan for each relevant change in bond lengths and bond angles to obtain the optimal reaction channel leading to initial thermal decomposition of nitrobenzene. The results demonstrate that the initial thermal decomposition is the isomerization of nitrobenzene to phenyl nitrite. The optimal reaction channel leading to the initial isomerization is the increase or decrease of angle O-N-C from the antisymmetric nitro stretching vibration, which causes the torsion of nitro group and the subsequent oxygen atom attacking carbon atom. The scanning energy barrier related to angle O-N-C is about 62.1 kcal/mol, which is very consistent with the calculated activation barrier of isomerization of nitrobenzene. This proves the reliability of our conclusions.
